Hi Reema!😊 This is my favorite of the "Alien" films. After this, it kind of goes downhill. There is an alternate version of this film "Aliens: Special Edition" you may want to see at a later date. It contains deleted scenes and more character building between Newt and Ripley. Great reactions to your first viewing of James Cameron's classic Aliens, Reema!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

In a deleted scene Ripley finds Burke stuck on the wall but it was too late to save him as a face hugger got him and she offered him a grenade which is used one of the scenes after the encounter with the Queen.

During the Vietnam War, US signalers Stateside would intercept transmissions from Frontline combat missions, and Ripley, LT Gorman and Burke listening in to the fight, knowing they're getting wrecked, is quite accurate.

A dry heat is not as intense as having high humidity. Some with the cold. If it’s cold and you have high humidity, it feels colder. The humidity that touches your skin delivers that cold much more directly.

You asked 3 questions in your intro:
    1. Where do these aliens come from?
Answer: I won't tell you. This would be major spoilers for later movies.
    2. How did Ash know so much about it?
Answer: He didn't know anything about it.
Weyland-Yutani (the company) detected a signal, made by some kind of radio transmitter, that appeared not to be human.
That is literally everything they knew when they put Ash on the Nostromo and sent that crew out there.
There is a tiny chance that somebody in the company might have known about a very different kind of alien seen in other movies in this franchise and hoped to find them, but probably not.
So Ash's orders could be described as "Find out what is out there and bring it back, crew expendable."
By the time Ash is talking about "a perfect organism", he has already examined the dead face-hugger and he's seen the capabilities of the full-grown alien. He's making deductions about how awesome it is from his own observations, not from any knowledge he had before.
    He was also probably lying.
It's pretty far from "perfect", though it does have some advantages that no earth creature has.
    3. What's the purpose of trying to study it?
    Answer: science.
    And military.
Scientists always want to study things and figure out how it works.
Aside from the quest for knowledge, "applied science" is the way we take that knowledge and make new things.
Generally we sell them for profit.
A Tesla is better than a Model-T, an iPhone is better than a telephone, and an AR-15 is better than a bow-and-arrow.
Selling new and better weapons to the military is orten the biggest profit margins a company can get.
If we find any alien, anything at all, there's a high chance it has technological and or biological advantages that can be studied, applied, and marketed, likely to the military.
    Huge profits.

Ripley is how you do a boss babe. She's not a bitch, not a man in woman's clothes, she's tough but still feminine, shows good leadership skills under stress, and still has a good male/female sex tension dynamic. Everything she does is either by the book or done for a strategic reason. She lays into Hudson to keep him from panicking. She doesn't try to pull rank over Hicks or tell him how to do his job as he's the soldier, not her. Everything she does comes off as believable all the way down to how they fit in her ability to pilot the loading mech. She shows some fear and vulnerability when recounting her story. It's a damn shame that they cant seem to write strong women like this anymore.

Something that everyone misses (unless you were there) is that movies used to have tag lines. Alien had perhaps the greatest of all, In Space, No One Can Hear You Scream. Predator 2 had a very good one. He's In L.A. With A few Days To Kill.

    • @darthmuppet

This is the only movie Newt (Carrie Henn) was ever in- she decided she didn't want to be an actress and became an elementary school teacher instead. Her pupils were too young to see such a violent movie, but when their parents found out their child's teacher was actually Newt, they would stick posters and CDs into their kid's bookbags for her to sign.

58:00 at this point in the movie, the aliens are already pretty much decimated. A scene present in the director's cut - and not in this theatrical cut - shows the Marines deploying automatic turrets (called "sentry guns") that massacre the aliens before they manage to find another path as we later see in the film. This is why Ripley managed to survive in the nest.

Also interviews with Weaver, and another with Carrie Henn (Newt) who only started doing 'cons many years later.
Some people complain they must have terrorized the girl making the movie, but she said it was fun hanging out and training with the actors being soldiers, and watching the SFX people. She and the stuntman & puppeteers playing the alien in the water practised and spent a lot of time setting it up, and she said it was a challenge knowing that it all came down to getting her reactions in a few seconds of screen time, for a full day's work for a lot of people.

Hey, Reembok! This is one of the best sequels ever made!
Unfortunately, you did not see the superior SPECIAL EDITION version which has the Amanda Ripley scene, the functioning colony scene, Newt's family's discovery of the derelict ship scene, the automated gun scene, the Hudson speculation about queen ants scene and the name exchange scene. Those scenes provide a great deal more context and character beats lacking in the theatrical version you saw. It is the version both James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver prefer.
The future Ripley inhabits is implied to be a dystopic corporatocracy. The most pervasive and powerful corporate entity is the Weyland-Yutani Company, a 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. It is a multinational conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar transport and terraforming with a stake in every colony world. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of the Alien universe. Ash and Burke were following a secret corporate mandate to obtain a xenomorph specimen in order to profit from research and weaponization.
The colonists who venture beyond the compound like Newt's parents are prospectors who can lay a claim to any discovery they make. The Company would get a large percentage of the find but the colonist would own a piece. A valuable ore would mean a fortune! After Burke heard Ripley's story, he contacted the colony boss to dispatch someone to the coordinates Ripley had indicated in her report with no warning of danger. He must have done a little digging and found out about the Company Directive to investigate any possible sign of intelligent life and to bring back a specimen. He sent Newt's family straight to the derelict ship.
Neither Hicks nor Apone were treating Ripley in a sexist manner when she offered to help prep. They regarded her as a civilian. They were both accustomed to females in their unit such as medic Dietrich, pilot Ferro and heavy-gunner Vasquez. When she demonstrates her proficiency with the loader, they were laughing good-naturedly at her bravado and their own underestimation of her abilities.
    Some trivia:
The picture of Ripley's elderly daughter in the Special Edition is actually Sigourney Weaver's real-life mother!
The late Al Matthews, who played Sgt. Apone, was a true-blue Marine who was the first black man to be promoted to Sergeant in the Corps during his service in Vietnam!
The knife-trick scene was originally supposed to be performed by Lance Henriksen alone but he convinced director James Cameron to surprise Bill Paxton by involving him as they shot the scene! Paxton's wide-eyed terror is completely real!
Fan favorite Vasquez is played by non-Hispanic Jenette Goldstein! She goes out like a warrior and enables Gorman to reclaim his honor.
Ms. Goldstein now is the proprietress of a Los Angeles-based boutique that specializes in bespoke large-size bras! The motto of her company is, "At Jenette's, the alphabet begins with 'D'."!
Bishop's programming to not harm humans or allow them to come to harm through inaction is ripped straight from Isaac Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics!
Carrie Henn, who played Newt, never acted again but became a schoolteacher. She still maintains a correspondence relationship with Sigourney Weaver thirty-seven years later.
The late Bill Paxton, who has the distinction of being attacked on screen by an Alien, a Terminator and a Predator, will NEVER be forgotten for his reading of the line, "Why don't you put HER in charge?", referring to little Newt in her oversized helmet. Lol.
"ALIEN 3: ASSEMBLY CUT" is a DIVISIVE film but it's an EXCELLENT entry in the series. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU SEE IT!!! Many will try to dissuade you but it is ESSENTIAL VIEWING! It's directed by David Fincher and features Charles Dance and Charles Dutton. It's brutal, fast-paced, has a solid cast, has some extraordinary scares, provides new insight into the creature, presents a fascinating dilemma and concludes the trilogy elegantly. I strongly encourage you NOT TO SKIP IT! Make sure you see the ASSEMBLY CUT (Special Edition with longer runtime). It is available on Redbox and right here on YT. "Alien Resurrection" is the optional one because it's a hot mess except for one cool aquatic sequence. The ambitious prequels, "Prometheus" and "Covenant", mark director Ridley Scott's return to the series but they are mostly good JUST for Michael Fassbender's performances. Scott demystifies the creature and unsatisfyingly attempts to address who the elephant-headed pilot of the derelict spacecraft was.

From here on out the Alien movies are "diminishing returns"... Alien3 is interesting mostly because it was David Finchers first film but he disowned it due to studio meddling and they basically took the movie from him. He never talks about it. Nothing ever really lived up to the first 2 films (other than maybe the 90s Alien comics).

Xeno learn quickly, actually you only see new borns in the movies. But a xeno of 50years could be even more intelligent than any of us. According to the size of their skull, they would be a lot more intelligent than us, i mean they already are in their way of surviving.

I like your reactions, but u as every other youtube reaction maker did NOT follow the sequence i told you to. PROMETHEUS is next, then this one, but too late now. it would have answered so many of your questions. Well I hope you do and MAKE SURE you get the deleted conversation between David and the Engineer. its here on youtube unde deleted scene from that movie. You will not be disappointed i promiss. Just remember David is the first robot and then go onto Covenant. The rest of the movies are junk.
This one was David Cameron more of an action director. Prometheus is back to Ridley Scott. One trivia you know was that in ALIEN Signory Weaver was originally cast for the position of Lambert and Veronica Cartwright as Ripley. Ridley Scott changed their roles the day before filming. I wonder how this series would have turned out if he didnt?
The only CGI used in this film was with the Queen. The rest of the movies have. Your a Jumpy reaction maker but not as bad as EOM. Did u watch his ? Do not watch Alien 3 like I said.

36:45 "They're all over the planet."
    Well, no, not really.
There's just not enough of them to get all over the planet.
Each full grown alien needs to hatch from a living body.
Nothing lives on this planet, so they had to sit in those eggs and wait for somebody to come here.
Like Kane from the Nostromo, but then he left.
And now the human colonists are here.
But there were only 158 humans in Hadley's Hope.
Newt was one of them, and so was that lady that was briefly alive in the nest.
Also, they killed at least 2 humans taking the face-huggers off them in their medical facility.
So at least 4 humans did not hatch a baby alien.
They also know of at least one dead alien that melted the floor in the command center.
That means there are at most 153 aliens on the entire planet.
Finally, the marines killed some aliens.
We only saw 4 for sure, but there was a lot of shooting, it's likely they killed at least a few more.
The four: Vasquez killed one and its blood sprayed on Drake, Hicks killed one in the APC door, Ripley ran over one, the last one died on the drop ship when it crashed.
So we're down to a max of 149.
Also, we know that sometimes they just kill humans.
Like the battle we saw, almost every marine was killed., not captured.
Only Apone and Dietrich were kept alive to impregnate.
Even if I only count confirmed kills, that's a maximum of 149 aliens left on this planet, but soon there will be 2 more when Apone and Dietrich hatch their chest-bursters.
Given that some humans were probably killed instead of captured, the total number of 149 could be as low as half that, but there's no way to be sure.

I think people interpret more into the lore than the movies portray, trying to fill in the gaps. Ash didn't know about the Xenomorph specifically, someone knew about the automated beacon, sent the Nostromo there in the first movie and Ash was put there to protect whatever if something of value was found.
If you really think about it, that signal got lost in the time between the first movie and the colonists arriving, else they would have found the wrecked ship sooner. Aliens makes it clear that only after Burkes orders the Jordans went there and got infected.
There are conspiracy theorys about the colony being established to get people impregnated, but that doesn't make sense given 50+ years passed, and you can get specimens without having to build a whole colony on top of the atmosphere processor.
This is my #1 movie ever, i do not want to diminish it. But there are problems in the details. Did Newt keep feeding the Hamsters? What is the overall timeline, why was that woman getting chestbursted just when the Marines were around? How long did she evade impregnation? We know it's a matter of like a day.
How much time passed between the board hearing and Burke recruiting Ripley? That's when Burke sent the order to check out the grid coordinates of the derelic ship, and get papa Jordan impregnated. Why was there no SOS? Did they send one and we are just not told about it in the movie? That's ok.
How long did it take to prep the Sulaco and to get to LV-426? In Alien it was said the Nostromo would take over a year to get back to earth. Let's assume military vessels traver faster than commercial freighthers, that would still mean 3-4 months FTL time. And all that time Newt kept feeding the Hamsters, and that other woman was not captured and impregnated.
Cameron is a great writer, but i feel with this one he didn't go quite deep enough to avoid nitpicking.

The scene where Hudson is teasing Vasquez- "They said alien and she thought they meant illegal alien"- was based on an incident from the casting. Jenette Goldstein (Vasquez) thought the movie was about illegal aliens from Mexico, and thinking there would be part for a hooker/stripper type, showed up in a tight mini-skirt and high heels.

Ripley is really something! One of the best characters ever created and portrayed so impressively by Sigourney Weaver! Even though Alien 3 and 4 aren't as good as the first two, they're worth watching just so you can see Ripley's story continuation and conclusion. As for the origin of the aliens themselves, I suggest watching Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, in that order, as they're exactly about that. basically like prequels to the Alien series.

Great reaction to an awesome movie!
This is the perfect ending to the Alien saga. Everything that steals the name after this is just half-assed money grabs cashing in on the Alien/Aliens name. I went to watch Alien3 but hated it so badly from the start that I walked out barely half an hour into the movie. I've never watched anything else from the extended series, and I suggest that other people should never do so either. That's just my opinion though, and it's worth what you paid for it: nothing.
Sigorney Weaver as Ripley is one of the best acted characters in film history. She's a believable human being who rises above when the stuff hits the fan and something has to be done. One of my favorite sci-fi actors ever. Everyone played their roles so well in this movie, and even the "disposable" marines were given enough character and personality so that they were recognizable characters. That was a great thing that these two movies in this saga did: the characters were individuals instead of tissue paper characters.
Michael Biehn as Hicks at least survived this movie, and having him survive was a nice twist on the 'everyone but one person dies' horror movie trope. And the old joke held true: If he doesn't have a mustache he's a good guy.
The actress who played Vasquez, the ultimate bad-A marine, is in three of my top twelve favorite movie series, and sadly she dies in all three. She's still awesome here though.
Paxton as Hudson was great. He was scared as crap, but when it was time for action he was right there in the thick of it, doing the best he could, no matter what. Whether it was fighting or being the top tier tech marine who got the info and opened the locks, he did his job. Even if he may have been wetting his britches the entire time.
One of my favorite stories about this movie was told by Paul Reiser who played Carter Burke. He took his mother to the premiere and told her nothing about the movie beforehand. She joined in with the rest of the audience applauding when Burke died, and from an article I read he said that for weeks afterward every time they saw each other when she first saw him she got this look of disgust on her face, this "I can't believe you did that to those people" kind of look. That's what made him really believe that he could be an actor.
The young lady who played Newt was an incredible actress on this. She played the numb and shell-shocked little girl so well that it broke your heart. But she could be as capable as anyone else in her own way. For such a young actor, she did amazingly well in this role. A side story that amused me is that she kept wanting to go down the slide (where she gets separated and then captured near the end) over and over because it was fun, so they had to keep reshooting the scene because she was so excited to slide that she'd muff the shot. Finally she was told that once they got the take they needed, she could ride the slide as much as she wanted.
The extended version adds a lot of great backstory early on in the movie about Ripley, which makes everything about Newt that much more poignant. And I'm a bitter, jaded old man with no heart or emotions to speak of (or so I'm told), but I still get teary eyed when Newt calls Ripley 'Mommy' at the end.
In spite of my past work in computers I'm absolutely a practical FX person, because digital FX are overused and rushed to the point of usually being awful. I am always amazed at the eerie but kinda sickly beautiful work that went into the practical FX for this movie. Not just the aliens themselves, though they are incredible, but all the set dressing, the puppetry/animatronics, makeup and costuming, everything.
I have my own Aliens movie story, which I think is amusing:
After I graduated high school, I became an advisor for the church youth group I had belonged to before graduating. In 1988, when I was 20, we had a lock-in one fall weekend. The high school youth were allowed to pick movies to rent for the lock in. Aliens was one of the ones chosen. I had kind of seen it before, but it was as background while hanging out with friends, so I didn't know much about it. We started watching it around 11 p.m. All of the adults and most of the teens had gone to sleep in the rooms set aside for that, while a few teens and I started watching Aliens in the High School Sunday School room in the large mostly underground downstairs of the large church. The teens all left and went to sleep before we reached the halfway point, but I was interested so I stayed up and finished the movie.
It was now around 1 a.m. All the lights were off because everyone but me was asleep. My last task before I could sleep was to go around the unlocked areas of the downstairs and make sure none of the teens had snuck off to do anything they shouldn't have. So here I am, walking through dark cinder block walled hallways with exposed ductwork overhead, and no lights except for the occasional faint red lights of the "Exit" signs. My heart is beating like a jackhammer as I carefully edge my way through the dark halls, knowing that there are no xenomorphs but still expecting some kind of jump scare that's going to make me lash out and crap myself at the same time. Luckily, everyone was fast asleep and I finished my rounds and went and lay down, but it was probably the least restful sleep I had and the most nervous I had ever been in church.
