    I have seen this film so many times, and I still love watching these reactions. Reminds me of my 8 or 9 year-old self sneaking down into the basement and watching this in the dark...
    A very long walk back to my room that night...

    I enjoyed your reaction. You're the only one to pick up, somewhat, on the reason that Parker didn't want Ash to go with him to refuel the flame throwers is because he didn't trust Ash. No one else on the ship seemed to detect that Ash wasn't to be trusted. IMO, Parker's character is highly underrated. Although he's a bit of a "loudmouth", in all the suspicious scenarios he was the first one to intuitively pick up on the B.S. and protested. In all situations where there was danger and violence he was the first to either object or take action, even to the point of sacrificing his own safety. This, I'm sure, is why Dallas remarked "Parker, I don't want any heroics out of you." It was what he was known to do, apparently when it wasn't convenient, appreciated or understood by others. It was he who began to at least attempt to kill the creature after it exploded from Kane's chest. Great writing, directing, acting and all.

    I was still in the Philippines in 1979 preparing to move to Canada. I was going to miss ‘Alien’ in theaters there. So I bought the novel and spoiled everything for myself. When I got to Canada I bought a fully illustrated book with hundreds of photos from the film in sequence showing the entire movie, further spoiling it for myself. I finally got to see ‘Alien’ later on. My first movie in Canada. It was in Toronto where they were forcing the idea of the multi-plex cinemas. The theater was smaller than my living room. The screen was the size of a large screen TV. The quality of the film was that of a VHS copy. NUTS!!! I have since bought it on VHS, laser disc, DVD, Blue-Ray, etc. Still one of my favorites and have lost count of how many times I’ve seen it. And still enjoy reactors watching this film.

    I will never forget seeing this film when first released on a huge 70mm screen and a packed house. If you think it looks good now for an old film then you can imagine the impact it had at the time.

    Pro tips....while Cameron was filming terminator, the actor Reese who was in several Cameron movies, would hang out with him after daily shoots.
    He said Cameron was prolific, and while shooting terminator, he was already writing rough drafts for Terminator 2, Aliens, and the Abyss!

    "Alien" is one of the best science fiction films ever made, and also one of the best horror films.
    It's just fantastic.
    The sequel, "Aliens," takes a very different tone -- less horror and more action.
    But that turned out to be a great choice; it means the second film doesn't just re-hash the first, and that makes it one of the best sequels ever made.
    The later films aren't nearly as good -- honestly, just skip them.
    The third one, in particular, is a pretty serious let-down.

      Thomas, Alien 3 gives closure to the entire trilogy. Alien Resurrection has no part in the story. All subsequent sequels happen before the first three. Watch it again.

    Hey!! Congratulations! You're the first reactor who has ever figured out right away that Brett was cooling off in the condensation forming on the ore processing machines. I usually have to explain. It's as if nobody has ever seen the condescension dripping from an air conditioner except for you and me. Or knows that since it's distilled it's safe for people.

    • @tommc3622
      @tommc3622 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Although this is a logical conclusion as to the source of the water, the refinery processing the ore is actually the enormous cargo, and far removed from the crew.
      The Nostromo itself is a tug. A space semi-truck, hauling it's load.
      The room Brett is in houses one of the Nostromo's landing struts.
      It was very recently exposed to the freezing, primordial atmosphere of LV-426. The ice that formed on everything has thawed.
      In one of the cut scenes, we see that the Alien has cocooned the crew in another room... that also houses a landing strut.
      ...
      This is speculation, but perhaps the Xenomorph is attracted to damp environments.

    • @dionysiacosmos
      @dionysiacosmos 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tommc3622 That's as good an explanation as any. But maybe it's because I come from to long lines of engineers, and I have the autistic son to prove it, I've always wondered why the processer needed coolant at all. It travels through space and it seems silly not to find a way for the cold to exploited. Maybe using something like hollow tubing the ends of which could be sealed at will. It feels like a literal waste of space.

    • @dionysiacosmos
      @dionysiacosmos 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@tommc3622Hi Tom. After you posited the idea of the water Brett walked through being from thawing ice collected on the Nostomo, I paid closer attention to Ash's analysis of the the planet's atmosphere. He reports it hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. All three of those elements, I reconfirmed by looking them up, outgas directly from frozen. The artificial environment on the ship and refinery is far too warm to support their liquid states. Take nitrogen for example. It it was cold enough to be in it's liquid state Brett, Jones, and the alien would all be dead. Carbon dioxide I know well. My husband used to perform the laser rock shows on weekends at the local planetarium. They used frozen CO2 in the "smoke" machine. To me it always smells like Pink Floyd. So the thawing ice is going directly to its gaseous form. It can't be the source of the water. Given how Brett, one of the engineers treats it, I think we're back to condensation distilled and dripping.
      I'm still open to other ideas. But haven't heard anything when I've watched after coming to that conclusion, to support anything else. So far. I was scrolling through Alien reactions and remembered you. You can play with the ideas too, but your task looks difficult.

    28:20 "What is all that, it's gooey?" If you mean the water / "rain" inside the ship, he's actually in the "landing gear" section - that water/rain is simply the condensation from LV-426 after it lifted off the planet.

    Correction: Sigourney Weaver was not in Avatar.
    Avatar was around Sigourney Weaver.
    Couple of notes that escapes the younger generation. MS-Dos did no exist at the time of this movie.
    The computer interface was mimicking an older (even back in '79) teletype systems. It was meant to show an already-outdated interface for a futuristic setting, showing the a commercial ship did not need to waste money on fancy useless interfaces (oppose: 2001 Space Odyssey). Everything presented in the visuals is pragmatic at best. It's an awesome attention to details.

    All vessels have a scuttle device. For seafaring ships in real life, it's the ballasts. You flood one side of the ship,it capsizes, and it sinks. For this film,it was the fusion reactor of the ship. Shut off the cooling system of any fusion device, and it will explode.

    Two words: acid blood.
    Remember what a few drops did? Almost dissolved a hole right out into space.
    If Parker would have stabbed that little guy right then, it would be way more than a few drops.
    That much blood makes a hole out into space then all their air goes out into space and they all die.

    • @blakewalker84120
      @blakewalker84120 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miller-joel Of course he does.
      I'm not saying that Weyland Yutani expected to find an empty radio on LV-426.
      They expected to find something alien.
      They did not know what.
      Ash was supposed to get it back to the company. Whatever it was.
      He didn't know.
      Weyland Yutani didn't know.
      Ash's orders could have said "Bring back unknown alien thingamajiggy. All other priorities rescinded."
      But instead they said "specimen".
      That doesn't mean they knew what the specimen would be.
      Frankly, I don't see how they could.
      Based on all the movies in this franchise, but I won't give spoiler details, there would be no human alive that knows about Xenomorphs.
      There might be somebody with some old rumors about Predators, but that's very unlikely.
      It's more likely they expected to find one of Arnie's or Danny's Predators than a Xenomorph.
      Even if they did have very unlikely knowledge of Predators, there is no reason to think THAT is the alien that sent the signal.
      It's far more likely they knew nothing beyond "There is some kind of alien signal coming from a dead rock of a small planetoid. That probably means a crashed spaceship from something not human. Bring back a specimen of whatever it might be."

    • @miller-joel
      @miller-joel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blakewalker84120 Incorrect. You don't know what the company knew or didn't know, or what they expected to find. You're making a lot of assumptions. In AvP, there's a f'ing alien queen on Earth in contemporary time, the Predators breed aliens for sport, and Wayland gets killed by an alien.

    • @blakewalker84120
      @blakewalker84120 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miller-joel Of course these are assumptions, but they're good ones. You might call them deductions rather than assumptions.
      1. We've seen the other movies. Even the "prequels" that included xenomorphs did so in a way that it's obvious nobody on earth could have learned of them, or at best sound like the delusional ramblings of a crazy person well over a hundred years ago.
      1a. For an example of how unreliable this is, how many crazy people from the 1800s can you quote and how many of them do you believe well enough to sped a small fortune investigating their insane ramblings?
      2. Even if somebody in Weyland Yutani had heard some insane ramblings about a xenomorph more than 100 years earlier AND believed it, they would have no way to know that an alien signal on LV-426 was made by those specific xenomorphs or by any alien that had ever seen a xenomorph.
      3. Dallas, Kane, and Lambert were the first humans to explore that alien ship. They didn't find any human corpses, any human gear that was dropped or left behind, nothing. But they themselves DID leave gear behind unless you assume they were so careless with Kane that they stopped to pick up all the gear he dropped or that they used to get in and out of the egg chamber.
      4. If humans had come before, led a successful mission, recovered a specimen, and got out without leaving any clue they had been there, not even footprints in the dust, then Weyland Yutani probably already had the specimen.
      Unless it went like the Nostromo, in which case, Weyland Yutani would not have sent the Nostromo to fail a second time.
      They would have sent a better equipped science vessel with marines to help make sure the specimen was collected properly on the second try. We have proof of this from Alien 3.
      Which leads us all to the fact that when the Nostromo landed on LV-426, nobody on board or at Weyland Yutani knew anything about what was there.
      All they had was a signal of alien origin and no real clue about what made it or why.
      Now we can speculate about a sinister mastermind at Weyland Yutani who possessed some kind of magical plot-driven omniscience and mysteriously knew exactly what was on LV-426.
      But THAT requires a bunch of assumptions, including that such omniscience is even possible, and is not grounded in even one bit of evidence from any of the movies.
      It's much, MUCH more plausible, as well as supported by this movie and the rest of the franchise, that Ash was sent to find out what was on this planetoid and bring back a specimen of whatever he found, with no foreknowledge of what it might be.

    • @miller-joel
      @miller-joel ปีที่แล้ว

      @@blakewalker84120 Bottom line is, the movie does not answer any of those questions, which allows people to speculate about it more than 40 years later, and that's the beauty of it.
      I don't consider anything outside of Alien or Aliens canon, but if you do, there are versions where the Wayland Yutani android David creates the xenomorphs. If you consider AvP canon, then the company knew a lot about them, they recovered advanced technology from the Predators, so they were not just insane ramblings. So even the "official" movies contradict themselves all over the place.
      I never said humans had been on LV-426 before the crew of the Nostromo. You're going down that rabbit hole all by yourself.
      Also, saying the Company "knows" or "doesn't know" something is not accurate. There's information that's only available at the top management level.

    One thing I have noticed, even though we know what Ash was really up to, he did have a legit point as well when telling Parker not to kill the creature when it first emerged. It also has acid for blood, which even if they didn't know for sure, was pretty likely. Stabbing it would have probably caused a lot of acid blood everywhere, potentially injuring or killing those around it and maybe this time eating through the hull for sure. So Ash had a legit excuse to fall back on if any of the crew questioned why he said not to kill it then.

      The actress is Veronica Cartwright, not Victoria. I believe her first film was Alfred Hitchcock’s classic “The Birds” when she was a child. She was also in another great sci fi/horror film, the remake of “Invasion Of The Body Snatchers” with Donald Sutherland, Jeff Goldblum, and Leonard Nimoy. The first thing I ever saw Tom Skerritt in was “M*A*S*H” (the film, not the tv series), also with Donald Sutherland.

    "It's got a great defense mechanism... you don't dare kill it..."
    Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it.
    The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy.
    Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell.
    Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights.
    Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

    Not really.
    It's a term for boats/ships on the water.
    When there is damage below the water, they basically lift the boat out of the water so they can wok on it while it's dry.
    Dry-dock.
    For space ships, it means parking them inside a bigger ship where they can close the doors and fill the whole area with air so workers can just work on it without being out in space.

      I can help with that.
      Just consider the Titanic, but imagine there was less damage - still a lot of damage and flooding, but not enough to sink it.
      Now, the crew at sea could throw some metal plats over some of the leaks, brace those with metal beams, and weld them in place.
      This would be patching the leak and it can keep a ship afloat.
      Ships are damaged but not sunk do this all the time.
      But nobody would say those metal plates, internal braces, and partially flooded compartments are "fixed".
      But the could, carefully, make it to the nearest dry dock and make real repairs to fix the ship good as new.
      For the movie, I image that one landing strut might have bent and the bending may have twisted the hull, at least a little. Very similar to what happens to a small family car if they run up onto a curb too hard.
      They patch the leaks, re-route any electrical systems, and make the ship space-worthy, but it's not really "fixed" yet.
      "It is hilarious that one guy says tell them 17 hours and the other guy says "at least 25 hours..."
      Yes.
      17 is the estimate that takes hard work from both guys.
      25 the relaxed estimate that doesn't require hard work; they can be kinda lazy and still meet their promise.
      So Brett was probably giving an honest estimate, then Parker exaggerated it so they wouldn't need to work very hard.

    Hey, Reembok! This is one of the greatest and most influential horror films of all time!
    I prefer the original THEATRICAL CUT you saw because I feel it's paced better and lacks a scene which contradicts the sequel. However, the Director's Cut boasts a moment when Veronica Cartwright smacks the cr@p out of Sigourney Weaver which definitely SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the Theatrical Cut!
    Despite preferring the Theatrical Cut for the first movie, there is ABSOLUTELY NO QUESTION that you must watch the SPECIAL EDITION with longer runtime of the sequel, "ALIENS"!!!!!!! There are critical additional scenes that add context to the movie and it is the version director James Cameron and Sigourney Weaver themselves prefer.
    Director Ridley Scott kept the entire cast in the dark about the famous CHESTBURSTING scene except for John Hurt. Their reactions were absolutely genuine and mirrored the audience's response! Veronica Cartwright got sprayed by fake blood and fell over backward. They only filmed the scene twice. It remains one of the most ICONIC IN CINEMA HISTORY!
    The PACING is deliberately slow at the beginning to acquaint the audience with the ship's geography, to demonstrate authentic-looking space travel and maneuvers, to familiarize the audience with the crew, to establish the threat posed by the creature and to generate suspense with the mystery of the derelict craft. There's a lot of rich character humor and foreshadowing in those crew interaction scenes as well as a subtext about this future society being a corporate dystopia. "Alien" is set in the year 2122.
    This movie and "Star Wars" changed the future aesthetic from antiseptic cleanliness to lived-in, worn-out dinginess.
    The Swiss artist, H.R. GIGER, who designed the xenomorph, tapped into insectoid and reptilian features that evoke primal fear. His artwork is very bizarre, erotic and has a distinctive look called Giger-esque. The final product is an iconic movie monster that is pure NIGHTMARE FUEL! The creature's life-cycle and biology is explored throughout the series. By the way, the alien's retractable inner jaw is found in nature in a deep-sea fish!
    THE WEYLAND-YUTANI COMPANY is an international conglomerate involved in robotics, interstellar travel and terra-forming. They have a stake in every colony world and are basically the 22nd-century version of the British East India Company of the 17th- to 19th-centuries. They are a ruthless corporation looking to exploit or weaponize the xenomorph for profit regardless of the negative consequences. The Company is the TRUE VILLAIN of all the Alien movies. In the "AvP" films, you actually meet the company founders before their merger, Mr. Weyland and Ms. Yutani.
    This crew is not a group of explorers, scientists or colonists. They're just SPACE TRUCKERS hauling rocks. This was a First Contact situation they were wholly unqualified for. Hence, all the bumbling and bad judgment calls. Their chief concerns were company policy and pay inequity. Ripley was the only one with the willingness to make difficult command decisions that would have saved all their lives except for Kane's had she not been undermined by Ash. Of course, Ash was privy to a secret corporate mandate.
    Like most Captains, Dallas had an inherently CALM DEMEANOR. By minimizing the situation, it prevents both him and the crew from panicking. You can tell he's very worried because he seeks counsel from Mother. He also acknowledges his culpability for the predicament by preventing Ripley from volunteering to go into the shafts and by shouldering that burden himself. He accepted this task not even knowing if fire would be effective! His last act is a rather valiant gesture and I always feel bad for him despite his initial missteps.
    Parker is MY FAVORITE supporting character! Yaphet Kotto played him to the hilt! He's the blue collar EVERYMAN who just cares about payday and who enjoys deliberately antagonizing his superiors but ends up sacrificing himself for a fellow employee. He's also the only one who made a move on the chestburster before being stopped by Ash!
    Some viewers strongly believe the alien raped Lambert! This is nonsense. The PREHENSILE TAIL probably drew her closer to itself so it could mouth-punch her with the retractable jaw. Those viewers aren't mistaken for perceiving phallic eroticism, though, as that was Scott's intent.
    The giant elephant-headed alien pilot of the derelict spacecraft is one of the GREAT MYSTERIES of the franchise. Was he a zoologist, a bio-warfare specialist, an exterminator, a trader in exotic organisms, a waste disposal tech or a trucker like Ripley's crew? No one knows.
    Sigourney Weaver became a FEMINIST ICON because of this movie. Ripley is one in a long line of strong female characters that have been showcased in sci-fi and fantasy dating back to Edgar Rice Burroughs' Dejah Thoris, the Princess of Mars, in 1911! There's not a man I know who wouldn't follow Ripley into hell.
    You must see the SPECIAL EDITION of "Aliens" and the ASSEMBLY CUT of "Alien 3" because those versions greatly enhance both films.
    If you intend to see the "ALIEN vs. PREDATOR" films, then you need to acquaint yourself with the PREDATOR franchise. The first is an action classic with Schwarzenegger. Danny Glover's underrated urban-set "Predator 2" features some memorable set pieces. Dark Horse comics explored the crossover concept inspiring Hollywood to make two crossover films with moderately successful to excellent results. They're fun and exciting guilty pleasures with the second one, "ALIENS vs. PREDATOR: REQUIEM", being particularly lean and mean. There is also a "PREDATORS" film produced by Robert Rodriguez that is definitely worth a look. "THE PREDATOR" (2018) REBOOT, however, should be considered extremely optional as it nearly killed the franchise! "PREY" is an 18th-century-set prequel to the original film that was released on Hulu last summer! The Alien films have a RICHER SUBTEXT while the Predator films are more ACTION FARE but they're both fun sci-fi thrillers. Below is a VIEWING ORDER and an INTERNAL CHRONOLOGY:

    1719 Prey

    A couple thoughts from your outro:
    1. I don't think "Mother knew all about the alien". I think all Mother knew was there was a signal on that planet that wasn't made by humans. Ash and Mother were trying to find whatever it is and bring it home, but they didn't know anything about it until the actually went there and found out.
    2. I don't think the alien was smart enough to know that the Nostromo was self destructing and that it needed to hide in the shuttle. I think it was just instinct. Most predators on earth like to sleep in caves or enclosed spaces. The alien had a long day. Lots of being born, growing big, and 4 murders. it was tired and looking for a cave to hide in so it could sleep.

I tell every youtuber this but no one does. If you do it will explain much as the alien, the crashed alien ship. Oh be sure to get the few minutes of Deleted conversation between ""David and the Engineer" it explains much. Its here on youtube.
    Now what can I say to answer some of your questions. These guys are just advance truck drivers, not scientists, hence the reason why they make so many bad decisions.. Everyone is suprised Ash is a robot. He is actually the second generation, with David being the first one (On Prometheus) and then in the sequel theres the third generation robot (Bishop) I dont want to give u spoilers, so thats all I'll say.
    Remember when they asked Ash how do u kill it? HE said "Perfect organsim, as intelligent and hostile a thing there is". They dont say this in the different versions but the Alien ate the food that was stored in the locker Jonesy was hiding in. When Brett goes into the landing gear room in the blue ray version of this u can actuallly see it hiding way up in the chains above him.
    No CGI back then. This was all hand built models. I think you missed all the sexual references in this movie. The artist made a lot of things to it. Some youtuber reaction makers pick right up on it. I can say I didnt at first watching either.

    This is the start in movies...u see anyone drinking milk, beware! I would call this sci-fi, not horror. The Thing is definitely both! This,the thing, and Bladerunner,(Scott also did Bladerunner!😮😮😮) are the 3 most important sci-fi movies ever made. Maybe add Tron, and it's sequel, here. No CGI, all models, special effects and practical effects! There is a huge tie-in here. In Prometheus, the prequel to all movies, the alien here on the ship with his chest blown out. These are Engineers. A race of beings who seed life on planets and if they don't like how the life is progressing they seed another life to wipe out the remaining then they destroy each other. Engineers created humans Aliens and supposedly Predators and gave humans the technology for Replicants and Terminators! Also Tyrell Corp, Cyberdyne Systems, Weyland Corp are all related. Dallas, in a brief view of his resume, u see he worked for Tyrell Corp 😮 that's Bladerunner! Cyberdyne Systems did tech work for Tyrell Corp! And Weyland Corp did industrial and flight operations for Tyrell Corp!! Also Cameron did the sequels for alien and Terminator!!! And of course, Arnold was in predator and Terminator! And Reese, Bill Paxton and the Mexican chica both in terminator 2 and Aliens. Also lance hennrikson is the asst police chief in terminator, and bishop in, Aliens😮😮😮!!!
    The old white guy here is Harry Dean Stanton. Been in every movie made since the silent era!😅 This , Dillinger, outsiders, Red Dawn, Godfather 2, Green Mile, and others. Pro tip, the first death scene the director and actor didn't tell the rest of the actors, what was going to happen with the actor, Scott wanted real reactions from the other actors 😮😮😮The real horror is, when ur being taken over, u don't know it!....just like in, The Thing!
