Part of what gives them power is calling it “resources” instead of “money” and pretending that foundations are “generous” and “partners”. This is money that should have been paid in taxes and allocated by our elected representatives to make sure everyone has what they need and that America is true to its goal of equality. The system is unfair at its core. Thanks for this!
Thanks for checking out our video! At MMI, we are trying to really reframe support in terms of resources. For example, we support our grantee partners with everything from HR consulting support to executive coaching. We want to set a new day for what trusting, comprehensive support looks like, where we focus on funding and ancillary supports, and the direct services providers can focus on their work. But I completely agree with you on the tax avoidance issue; it doesn't get the global attention it deserves.
Totally agreed! Tax sheltering/exemption is a form of public assistance that is wildly imbalanced against the pittance model of 5% annual distribution.
