This year's Dance/Electronic nominees were absolutely awful. Last year saw nominations for cutting-edge works by Arca, Baauer, Madeon and wins for Kaytranada This year they chose to highlight Marshmello, Illenium and the deluxe version of a Major Lazer album that came out 2 years ago, all while also snubbing Porter Robinson & Floating Points in either category.
Dude, Nurture is my AOTY of 2021. Literally so good. Also I think Madeon deserved it just slightly more than Kaytranada but I'm not mad because he's cool too. The new illenium album is his worst by far
My deep, heartfelt love of award ceremony chaos is absolutely overjoyed at the Academy going with the Chaos pick for Album of the Year. On the other hand, absolutely *WILD* that Olivia Rodrigo didn't walk away with that award.
@nature1966 No, It has to be through the age because Billie won 2 years ago, not this year. So we have to look at the age she was when she won. Olivia on the other hand could have won this year, so we look at the age she is this year. So Billie was 18 two years ago when she won and Olivia is 19 right now. If Olivia had won, Billie would have still held the record of youngest ever as she was 18 when she won (Olivia would have been second youngest, 19).
I don't know why people are shocked Jon Baptiste won AOTY. If you've watched the Grammys enough times, then you'll know the Grammys _does this_ . Arcade Fire Herbie Hancock (both Amy Winehouse and Kanye West's albums were nominees) Beck (it won over Beyonce's self-titled album) Lauryn Hill (it won over Madonna's "Ray of Light") Adele (it won over Beyonce's "Lemonade") They tend to pick the "wild cards".
@@ar-yj8lb true. But Madonna's "Ray of Light" was heavily praised within that entire year as well. It was considered a contender for the AOTY grammy, back in 1998. It was nominated for 6, eventually won 4. So people assumed it was going to win the AOTY.
Arcade Fire might have had the most acclaimed album of the eligibility period and The Suburbs was a #1 album in the UK and US so no big shock there either. Beck won with a vote split, since the four other albums were arguably "pop" albums and some considered Beck to be a veteran who was overdue. The bigger shock was Pharrell winning in the Urban Contemporary album category (as it was call back then) and beating Beyonce there. Herbie Hancock was one of several veteran winners in the 2000s, see also Santana and Steely Dan.
I’m only gonna predict AOTY Who I want to win : Kanye West - Donda Lil Nas X - Montero Who I think will win: Billie Eilish - Happier than Ever Olivia Rodrigo - SOUR Taylor Swift - evermore? Lil Nas X - Montero? What will bring chaos: Kanye West - Donda
One thing that makes me mad about this is the complete absence of Maneskin in any categories. As far as mainstream music goes they have been a huge shake. I get the Grammy's are for the U.S. Americans but the ethnocentrism could be revisited sometimes
I’m hoping they continue to build momentum in North America. I wish their other work had caught on more. I enjoy Beggin’, but it’s definitely not their best.
I personally want Olivia Rodrigo to win and I think she might sweep the awards and win big. Lil Nas X winning will be great to see as well because Lil Nas X is talented. Arooj Aftab winning would be amazing for me personally as a Pakistani.
I love your videos like this where they ain't apart of a series and just explores a topic or question related to music Now don't get me wrong I love the monthly music and deep discog dive, but I wish we had more these videos
From an unbiased perspective, Jon Batiste being nominated in the biggest categories was a little out of left field, but from a biased perspective I'm a huge fan of his and would be thrilled to BITS if he won AOTY. Not likely it'll happen but hey, I can dream. I have this feeling in my gut that they'll give it to Love For Sale since Tony Bennet is retiring, and that really gets my goat cause I thought one of the criteria for AOTY was that most of the songs had to be originals?? I probably missed a change somewhere, but I still hope it doesn't win. That would just be an embarrassingly safe option.
I’ve actually listened to it every day since it dropped and I don’t generally even listen to pop or rap. (Prior to CMBYN, I barely knew who he was, and hadn’t even heard Old Town Road.)
I mean, look, all of us want to see Hey What by Low win for Best Engineering, non-classical, I don't blame you for being super excited for that category
8:56- that is literally everyone's excuse to evermore not winning even though it's the most deserving to! And it's not......FAIR And as much as I love Taylor, I wouldn't mind the AOTY going to Doja since she rlly deserves her due! Billie n Olivia can take the other ones I want doja to take home AOTY( if not evermore), BPVA, BPD/GP and BMRP
Lil Nas X is the only artist here I really like. On a personal taste level, I’d love to see him sweep every category he’s nominated in. On a more general level, I *hate* sweeps, so I hope he doesn’t. I love that, if he actually got AOTY, two other nominees (Doja and Kanye) would, too.
Well that was a weird result. Lot of upsets. Louis C.K. won for comedy while Bo Burnham wasn’t even nominated. The unofficial bridgerton musical won while the official soundtrack lost their category.
Coming here after the Grammys to say huh?! 🥴🤔 after seeing Jon perform and hearing his speech I really like him and will be listening to WE ARE. I think I’m disappointed that Billie and Lil Nas X went home completely empty. Especially after Billie’s great performance.
most of the time, non American artists need huge sales like Adele to get noticed by Grammy voters who mostly live in LA, New York or Nashville, maybe Atlanta and a few other places.
Okay so now that the grammys are over, something that was kind of annoying is that even though I liked Planet Her I was very much rooting against it because I'm not comfortable with Dr. Luke winning. I'm kind of disappointed that Justice didn't sweep. Not because I liked it, but because Little Simz didn't get nominated, and I simply choose violence.
Not in this video, but the rock nominations were absolutely pathetic this year. Wold alice not getting nominated is simply awful and unexcusable. Olivia, willow, and billie all made great rock songs as well and they should've been in these categories for those songs in particular. Instead we got AC/DC.

This year they chose to highlight Marshmello, Illenium and the deluxe version of a Major Lazer album that came out 2 years ago, all while also snubbing Porter Robinson & Floating Points in either category.
Dude, Nurture is my AOTY of 2021. Literally so good. Also I think Madeon deserved it just slightly more than Kaytranada but I'm not mad because he's cool too. The new illenium album is his worst by far
Yeah that made me angry
porter was robbed hard
@@szymondudzinski6661 Fully agree
My deep, heartfelt love of award ceremony chaos is absolutely overjoyed at the Academy going with the Chaos pick for Album of the Year.
On the other hand, absolutely *WILD* that Olivia Rodrigo didn't walk away with that award.
Babe get in here Mic the Snare just posted
Billie was 18 when she won Album of the Year, Olivia is 19. She won't beat Billie's record.
No. Olivia just turn 18 last yr and billie won at age 19 which is in 2019
@@ksn2197 Billie was 18 when she won. Olivia is 19 right now. Google their date of births, you'll see.
@@mikendlovu.2097 billie and olivia is starting to fire since 2021 and also doja and dua lipa
It’s funny that you said Jon Batiste will bring chaos on the Album of the Year, yeah he did lmao
As he should have.
Day 1 of asking Mic The Snare to make a DDD about the best rock band in Latinoamérica, Soda Stereo.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed for silk sonic all the way!
I don't know why people are shocked Jon Baptiste won AOTY. If you've watched the Grammys enough times, then you'll know the Grammys _does this_ .
Arcade Fire
Herbie Hancock (both Amy Winehouse and Kanye West's albums were nominees)
Beck (it won over Beyonce's self-titled album)
Lauryn Hill (it won over Madonna's "Ray of Light")
Adele (it won over Beyonce's "Lemonade")
They tend to pick the "wild cards".
@@ar-yj8lb true. But Madonna's "Ray of Light" was heavily praised within that entire year as well. It was considered a contender for the AOTY grammy, back in 1998. It was nominated for 6, eventually won 4. So people assumed it was going to win the AOTY.
The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill is way better than Ray of Light
Arcade Fire might have had the most acclaimed album of the eligibility period and The Suburbs was a #1 album in the UK and US so no big shock there either. Beck won with a vote split, since the four other albums were arguably "pop" albums and some considered Beck to be a veteran who was overdue. The bigger shock was Pharrell winning in the Urban Contemporary album category (as it was call back then) and beating Beyonce there. Herbie Hancock was one of several veteran winners in the 2000s, see also Santana and Steely Dan.
Don't forget Taylor Swift (won over Kendrick Lamar's "To Pimp a Butterfly")
I'm still slightly salty over Porter Robinson not getting a nomination for Nurture...
the big Kaiju Battle/Bloodbath category of the year is Best Alternative Album. no matter who wins, there will be blood.
and the one "random" one wins AOTY. I honestly could have predicted this odd ball choose from a mile knowing how they can be.
I’m only gonna predict AOTY
Who I want to win :
Kanye West - Donda
Lil Nas X - Montero
Who I think will win:
Billie Eilish - Happier than Ever
Olivia Rodrigo - SOUR
Taylor Swift - evermore?
Lil Nas X - Montero?
What will bring chaos:
Kanye West - Donda
Kanye has been banned😭
@@jamieirvine3734 he is only banned from performing, he can still be there, receive his award and pee on it afterward
Nice
Evermore is literally best album there and it's coming from someone I usually don't listen her music
Ye will never win again no matter how good his album offerings get
Just surprised that Arlo Parks is even nominated. Last time I listened to her she's still quite an unknown back then.
Tiktok blew her up apparently. I was surprised too tbh.
Vulture Prince is such a good album! I know that category is a shoo-in for Olivia but I hope the nomination directs more people to Aftab's music
She is a plant and will be gone in 6 months
Coming back after the grammy’s to see if you were right
Such a good video! Eagerly waiting to see what happens!
I love your videos like this where they ain't apart of a series and just explores a topic or question related to music
Now don't get me wrong I love the monthly music and deep discog dive, but I wish we had more these videos
11:52 lmao you right
Oh no, none of us saw this album of the year winner coming
KJASHFIqwuifhwLGJKLAHGHGAWHEGJKWH HOLY FUCKINGN SHIT LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Guess who won!!
@@smirkingshark I KNOW I'M SO FUCKING HAPPY
Montero has to be the album of the year for me, it was very strong overall
I’ve actually listened to it every day since it dropped and I don’t generally even listen to pop or rap. (Prior to CMBYN, I barely knew who he was, and hadn’t even heard Old Town Road.)
I mean, look, all of us want to see Hey What by Low win for Best Engineering, non-classical, I don't blame you for being super excited for that category
For Fleet Foxes or Japanese Breakfast at least one award pls 🥺
10:10 sad as fuck how that's the one that won and not Happier Than Ever or Sour 😭
Why the hell was Saweetie nominated...? Truly definition of faking it till you make it but then still faking it
0:00 how da hell did i figure out that that was the ending sound of whiplash
i guess noone predicted who won comedy album. fucking hell
your hair looks great!
After watching it. I must say that they improved this year a lot
8:56- that is literally everyone's excuse to evermore not winning even though it's the most deserving to! And it's not......FAIR
And as much as I love Taylor, I wouldn't mind the AOTY going to Doja since she rlly deserves her due!
Billie n Olivia can take the other ones
I want doja to take home AOTY( if not evermore), BPVA, BPD/GP and BMRP
I think their nominations have improved, but it sucks that we all can already predict who the award winners will be
Lil Nas X is the only artist here I really like. On a personal taste level, I’d love to see him sweep every category he’s nominated in. On a more general level, I *hate* sweeps, so I hope he doesn’t.
I love that, if he actually got AOTY, two other nominees (Doja and Kanye) would, too.
aaaand the wild card has been played
i'll be happy if BTS, Silk Sonic and Doja Cat wins at least one each
Well that was a weird result. Lot of upsets.
Louis C.K. won for comedy while Bo Burnham wasn’t even nominated. The unofficial bridgerton musical won while the official soundtrack lost their category.
Injury reverse deserve a nod 🤦🏾♂️
Coming here after the Grammys to say huh?! 🥴🤔 after seeing Jon perform and hearing his speech I really like him and will be listening to WE ARE.
I think I’m disappointed that Billie and Lil Nas X went home completely empty. Especially after Billie’s great performance.
So Jon won Album of The Year. Chaos indeed
Do a DDD on Fitz And The Tantrums. They're a really cool band that doesn't get talked about much.
AH! You picked the Beck's victory, Mic! You are now obliged to do a Beck's DDD... p l e a s e
im expecting a billie eilish situation, where olivia or tony bennett get all the awards theyre nominated for
My biggest problem with the contenders are they are safe/quality and artist sweeping just sets them up like who deserves to sweep.
I'm genuinely confused on how SIMBI was not nominated in Rap Album category
most of the time, non American artists need huge sales like Adele to get noticed by Grammy voters who mostly live in LA, New York or Nashville, maybe Atlanta and a few other places.
Bts❤️💜
i luv u mic the snare
Jason momoa really did sneak up on Henry cavill
I can’t believe the Rap Album of the year wasn’t even aired
Damn, I was really expecting a DDD on Crazy Frog for April Fools day
Nobody would expect Jon Batiste and Silk sonic to get the most awards ...well maybe silk sonic but certainly not Jon Batiste
ABBA FINALLY DESERVE SONG IF THE YEAR AND IT IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE ON THE LIST BUT DONT SHUT ME DOWN SHOULD BE THE SONG THE BEST CUT ON THE ALBUM AND WHY THE ALBUM VOYAGE IS NOT ALBUM OF THE YEAR NOMINEE IS BEYOND ME
HONESTLY SO HAPPY SILK SONIC AND JON BATISTE WON!
Great video!
Cmon man just make the ddd for the strokes
but Mic how will I say "I don't care about the grammys?" if the grammys fix themselves?
i hope they’re fair honestly
