    As someone who is a Visually Impaired simmer, we are unable to do most of the features concerning the fmc as well as the checklists. There is MCE for most of the checklists, but that is limited to us as well. Have always wanted to fly the 73, however there hasn't been something made yet to access this information in an accessible format to us. The most we can really do is use aircraft that have the control e startup function, use autopilot software such as FS Tramp to import the flight plan, add the stars and sids, then fire the throttles after engaging autopilot and setting flaps. Thank you for making this tutorial, will never look at flight simulation the same way, but very useful information to know what actual pilots both in and outside of the simulator environment are doing.

    PFPX, cost index is entered in the flight plan section under aircraft. It will say LRC by default, and that is where you put your CI value. Also, not nearly enough fuel. You should have selected an alternate (e.g., KPHX) and planned for holding, contingency and extra. Landing fuel should usually not be less than 10,000 pounds without holds or other factors. I typically land around 10,000, but 8,000 is acceptable to me. Make sure you’re putting all the correct values in PFPX to get the amount of fuel you would really need. It really doesn’t change the V speeds to have the right amount versus being conservative and only having a precise trip value. It’s also nice to derate. Topcat will integrate into PFPX and allow you to derate and flex temp, which saves fuel slightly and often makes the takeoff a little more manageable with lower thrust settings.

    Captain, great video as always. One question though. You 'complain' that your checklists are not not great, but close enough to the real thing. I was under the impression that PMDG supply full checklists with all their software in their comprehensive documentation. Are you not using those checklists?

Does fmc do that automatically? If it is what am i doing wrong? searched this on google but couldn't find the answer. Also it doesn't follow the fmc altitudes . Have good flight :)

    Why didn’t you let the FMC manage your speed? Do you always have to do a speed intervention?

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an older flight so I'm not certain why is used speed intervention, but it is not necessary. You can allow the speed to be completely managed by the FMC up to the point of gear extension for landing. At that point you would need to use the speed selector knob on the MCP...but other than that it is not required. Hopefully that answers your question.

    I ran into problem with the auto pilot for PMDG 737. Sometimes i could activate the auto pilot during take off, other times, it wouldn't light up at all.
    For auto pilot to be activated, I understand that there are two conditions:
    1. Set altitude, or
    2. program the route in FMC,
    Since I'm doing a quick flight to test VS and FLC in auto pilot mode, I set the altitude only. But during the climb, the auto pilot button didn't light up when I press the button.
    Which step did I miss out?

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff, sorry for the delay...I'm not sure I fully understand your issue. Is the aircraft flying on Autopilot but the light on the button isnt coming on? Or is the aircraft not flying on autopilot at all? Have you completed ALL FMC preflight pages? If you dont complete flight plan, performance initialization, and takeoff pages, including v speeds and Center of gravity, then the autopilot wont work...also are you engaging LNAV and VNAV? Remember, this aircraft is very close to the real thing...it does not use autopilot like default aircraft do...it uses the IRS and FMC to navigate...as such you must engage LNAV, VNAV or use HDG SELECT, ALT SELECT, V/S, or any of the other options available on the MCP. If you are just pressing autopilot you arent giving the aircraft any actual commands to follow.

      This is a rather loaded question without more detail. Are you starting out with P3D or flight simulators in general? For Boeing, during ILS landing, I notice many pilots in TH-cam tutorials activate CMD B at co pilot side, but didn't explain the reason. Why CMD B but not CMD A?

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jeff,
      Great question. When flying an ILS in the 737; once the aircraft intercepts the glide slope, you need to activate the second Autopilot (B in this case) in order for the aircraft to be able to perform an autoland. This doesn't mean that you will autoland, only that the aircraft will be able to. If you do not activate the second autopilot, the aircraft will fly the ILS but will not be capable of landing on its own. Does this answer your question?

    • @jeffhiew5795
      @jeffhiew5795 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CaptainMac Hi Captain Mac,
      Does that mean both the NAV1 (captain side) and NAV2 (co pilot side) need to be tuned to the same ILS frequency too?
      As for approach, I notice TH-cam pilots activate Des Now in their FMC, is this step optional? didn't see this step in your video.

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jeffhiew5795 yes...in order to use the autoland feature in the NGX you must enter the ILS frequency into the NAV 1 and NAV 2 radio. It is not necessary to use the descend now feature in the FMC...I have never used it. However, if you are flying with ATC, you will most likely receive descent clearance before your calculated TOD...This is when you would use the descend now feature in the FMC. If you are descending before or after the aircraft's Calculated TOD, I recommend using FLCH to manage altitude rather than VNAV.

      Keilyn, there is no difference in operation of the 737-600/700/800/900 variants. The procedures remain the same for all of them. The only difference is takeoff weights and speeds, for the most part. There are other variances, but none that are relevant enough to justify a full flight tutorial in one of the variants since the tutorial would be identical to this one.

      @MalaysianAviator737-8 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      John i use the speedlink black widow yoke and throttle quadrant. My throttle has rudder pedals. When I assign my throttle I use the RZ Axis AKA the throttle. For the rudder however, I press the rudder pedal button but it says RZ Axis also, when I tried flying, the takeoff was horrible

    • @spokaneflyboy
      @spokaneflyboy 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MalaysianAviator737-8 I just looked up the controller and that is an awkward and non-intuitive way to control the rudder. Most joysticks in the past had a twist motion on the stick which worked better. It was still was touchy since the movement stop to stop is far smaller than the actual movement on the aircraft.
      I personally use the Saitek (now Logitech) rudder pedals which allow finer control and it gives you brake pedals for differential braking. I've also used the CH Products rudder pedals back when they used the old joystick port. They're good, but I found the pedals more awkward as, I'm used to dropping my feet down off the brake portion of the pedal in flight to keep from inadvertently hitting the brakes on landing. On a real aircraft, that's a good way to flat-spot or potentially blow out a tire.

    What is the difference between APU and Ground Power Captain??

    • @CaptainMac
      @CaptainMac  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Singh, the APU is the Auxiliary Power Unit; it is built into the aircraft. In simplest terms, it is a small jet engine located in the tail of the airplane. When turned on it provides electrical power to the aircraft and air pressure for starting the engines.
      Ground Power on the other hand is electrical power that is connected to the aircraft from the ground. Usually it is a cable that is connected to the jetway, but it can also be from a portable cart, such as that you see in the introduction of this video. Ground Power MUST be removed from the aircraft before it can go anywhere. The APU, since it is built into the aircraft is available at any time and of course, travels with the aircraft :-)
      I hope this answers your question completely.

    Hi Capt Mac,
    Nice tutorial you have there.
    I need some help on the altitude program in FMC. This flight is from VHHH to WSSS and has crossed the 18,000ft transition level, currently the plane is at waypoint EPDOS, according to the FMC, the plane should be flying at 36,000 ft, but why the plane stay at 25,000 ft? The plane is in VNAV and LNAV mode, and CMD A is activated, doesn't the FMC control the plane altitude?
    Secondly, while the plane is at waypoint EPDOS, why 250/FL210B is highlighted in magenta?
    Here is the screenshot link of the cockpit, many thanks in advance.

      @CaptainMac  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm sorry for my delayed reply, when I initially saw your question it was on my phone and I could not see your picture. In the picture you sent me it says on your FMC to "RESET MCP ALTITUDE" and when you look at the altitude set on your MCP (That's your front panel where you select, heading, speed, altitude, autopilot etc...) you can see your altitude is set to 25000. The aircraft will not climb above or descend below the altitude you have set there while on autopilot. So you need to reset that altitude to 36000 and you may need to press the ALT INTV button next to the knob to get it to start the climb. This is why the aircraft isn't at FL360. I know it's late, but I hope this helps.
