    Hi Mark again another great video in fact all your videos are a pleasure to watch, some of the rivers you target barbel/chub are just like the one close to me that has produced some lovely catches of chub and of coarse the Enigmatic prince of the river, nothing quite as impressive as some of your catches as the river suffered pollution back in 2017 and alot of specimen fish were lost but they are on the come back, my personal best was a real clonker back in 2004 on an evening session on the Thames that topped the scales at 16lb 4oz and what an unforgettable fight nearly loosing it to a shopping trolly.
    Anyway cant wait for your next vid, tight lines, wet nets, rob.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello there Rob and thank you! It is nice to hear that you enjoy my videos as much as you do. Argh pollution the bane of many rivers nowadays, water companies need gutting out and my own opinion need putting into public ownership. A 16lb 4oz barbus is a very good fish indeed! I have more videos coming and am spending another night currently editing more.

    Hi Mark, Well what a perfect demonstration for dealing with snags, I know that it doesn't always work out like that and you could have lost the fish and your gear! and the results speak for themselves another prime double figure Barbel.
    It was also nice to see the punishment that the Advanta 7 Ft RVS can take I believe it was bent double at one point.
    I broke the tip on mine a couple of trips back my own fault, I was packing up and attempted to climb a sloping bank slipped and the rucksack rolled down and hit the water and started floating downstream, and my knee hit the rod but that is another story.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there John and thank you I was very very lucky to get her off the snag, but the Advanta rods can take a beating. That sounds like a very unfortunate turn of events with breaking the tip, I broke my drennan ultralight mini feeder during summer so know how it feels :(. Maybe try and phone angling direct and openly tell them what happened and see if they might very kindly replace the top section?

    • @BUFF498
      @BUFF498 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@francolinobasco i have already replaced the tip doing it the old fashion way. I have not done any wiping for about 20 years when I was match fishing but it looks as good as new.

    Wonderful barbel under difficult "close combat conditions", respect.
    It is not the tool that makes perfect, but the hand that guides it.
    And if you still say that fishing is not a real sport, you can try this combination of concentration, skill, well-dosed use of force and timing "on the side" :-)

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you ever so much Hans and your saying is similar to what my father would say "a good craftsman never blames his tools"

    • @hanspetergunia805
      @hanspetergunia805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Mark, you can also put it this way .. whether the device in the hand becomes a sharp and elegantly wielded sword does not depend on the value or age of the tackle, but on the ability of those who wield this "weapon" .. Analogous to the well-known example of watercraft, I would claim that there is also such a thing as tacklecraft.
      I am often smiled at for my kind of tackle coordination - that would be far too weakly tuned ... I would then like to reply: it is only too weak for those who doubt the device but above all their own capabilities:-)

    Hi Mark, nice video. Lovely Barbel. But there is one question I have that has been bugging me for years. Whenever you see a big fish caught, the capture nearly always refer the fish as "she". Pike, Grayling and Tench I can understand. But the rest I am not sure about.

    • @francolinobasco
      @francolinobasco  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Martin and good question, to be fair my own feeling on this is that the majority of double figure barbel are females even though i said "he" on the video I personally feel it was a female. However I would argue in a day and age where female fish on some rivers are pushing high teens and more and that with crayfish being a viable food source for them that seeing a double figure male would not be a surprise either.
