- Description Our Band is comprised of approximately 150 young men selected to be delegates to Buckeye Boys State (BBS), a youth civics and leadership program administered by the Ohio American Legion. The members of the Band are complete strangers from every corner of the state who perform service and program music for daily assemblies and special events at the 8-day program. Because of BBS’s full schedule, each member of the band commits to short daily practices and all the songs you see and hear are performed with less than 30 minutes of practice beforehand. The experience of playing in the BBS Band is a uniquely rigorous and transformative one that is the highlight of each band member’s BBS experience.

RBVF I went to Boys State this past summer for a week at Rider university. In New Jersey, people can apply for the camp at places called “American legion posts.” Essentially, Boys State for New Jersey took on a governmental aspect where hundreds of kids from all over the state are split up into cities. Each city would elect people into office. The part with the band is where kids who play instruments can bring their instruments to the college or university and for a week train with other kids to place a slew of classic songs that is chosen by the person running the band. (There is a lot more if you want me to talk about) If you want more information you could look it up or I could dm you more on Instagram or snap. To start, try look up “Boys State” and add your state name after it.

As I clarinet as well... I know this will always happen unless you have more woodwinds. I can play really high on the clarinet though and have overpowered a tuba and trumpet.
It’s called balance. Realistically us brass have to back off and play less for you to be heard. Same with percussion. That’s why orchestra has a million violins playing but only three trombones 😂

Yeah, brass tend to do that quite often. I’m a trumpet player, and in my 11th grade band class, we only had two trumpets (including me) and like 8 woodwinds. Somehow, we would overpower all the woodwinds, and we weren’t even playing that loud to begin with. Basically, for every one brass instrument, you’d need like 10 woodwinds to balance it out
Our school does this, we start with the tubas, and then the entire band unleashes ourselves when our team gets a touchdown or we destroy the other team, we love it ❤️

My band was to small (we had 1 tuba, 1 trombone) so all the low instruments played, (tenor sax, tuba, trombone, bass clarinet) then everyone else joined

This sounds like a lot of people are sort of dragging but it is being covered up by the people getting it right and the sound quality is terrible.
