They are just begging for trouble not including display port HDMI cables. You know people out there are going to try to use their HDMI 1.3 and display port 1.1 cables that may or may not compatible with this monitors resolution and refresh rate. They are going to get a lot more RMAs than if they had included those cables.

They won't get many RMAs. They'll get store/retailer returns. Consumers won't have to go through the RMA process because it'll be a problem from the beginning, and will be returned to the retailer. The retailer will either RMA it if it is warranted, or send it for inspection and repacking in remanufactured packaging. People that return stuff because they don't like it, or for any other fault of their own, like a wrong cable, are scum bags. Amazon needs to tighten up their return process.

While I agree with both of you in theory, there are too many people who don’t know / don’t care, they don’t know that their old trust HDMI cable that worked just fine with their PS3 for years isn’t good enough for the new display combined with a PS5 or whatever else. What’s worse, is that it will likely work just fine when they use that same system and cable on their other tv with lower resolution and or refresh rate, and they will believe the monitor is defective. What’s worse, is each cable likely would’ve only cost about a dollar to include. Meaning that even if only 1% of customers return for this reason, it still won’t have actually saved Sony any money…

Something worth pointing out with monitor stands that I wish you guys talked about more are the positions of the lateral legs (ones that go out).
For a multi-monitor setup, if these legs are in front they can get in each others way when you have the monitors arched in a curve.
If the legs are at the rear, this doesn't happen.
Probably not why they made that design choice, but super useful if you need to arc the monitors if you have limited desk space.

6:10 If you want to control your monitor's settings through software, odds are you can just use any random DDC/CI control application to do just that (like the old ClickMonitorDDC, or the newer Monitorian). Basically every monitor that's been made in the last two decades will support it (it works over VGA and DVI, too).
(Which makes it even weirder that Windows doesn't just use it for brightness control like it has on laptops. Instead it's just been relegated to a Win32 "Monitor Control" API, which is so old that it literally has methods for *degaussing* the monitor.)

@@davisbradford7438 Typically the line has started to blur as time has gone by. See that Linus uses/used a 48" TV as a monitor. Main differences that still remain are that inputs/outputs tend to be a bit different. Most of the time, you'll see that DisplayPort is not present on TVs. Second, and probably the biggest one nowadays, is refresh rate. Monitors tend to target higher refresh rates than their TV counterparts. At most, on TVs you'd see around 120hz. Anything above that is usually overclocked, usually. Monitors have been hitting higher refresh with more ease cheaper.
Anyway, as stated by the video. This monitor is a bit more expensive to some of its counterparts. That's the Sony Tax. There are some features on here that mesh well with the Sony ecosystem, which is a huge plus if you have other Sony things.
That being said, I've known people that have been using a C1 as a monitor, size aside, the color accuracy is great. You're just capped by that refresh rate and response time at times. Not horrible, mind you. It's actually great compared to a lot of monitors, but not the best for that price range either.
The C1 at that price would definitely be a worthy consideration for a monitor. Can't beat how nice OLED looks, especially since the next option for OLED monitor would be the Alienware 34" for 1400 USD, I think. There you are paying for that higher refresh rate and high color accuracy.

Sure for gaming, but for movies, they are mastered for 4K HDR. Running a 4K mastered movie on a 1440p monitor will force the movie to disable HDR, because It cannot change its code on the fly like a video game can. I have the M9 and it has what look like multiple stuck pixels (a greenish blue dot the size of say, a sharpie point) and I see slight vertical lines. They almost aren't there but they are. It's hard to explain. But they are there. I got it to have a monitor that matches all the specs of my PS5 and still use in PC, but I think I might have to send it back. I ran into a similar problem with the Predator monitor awhile back. I ordered like 5 of them before I eventually went with the Dell 2716DGR. That just started having issues, and I have a PS5, so I figured I would get this to match and it would have everything a PS5 can do (for the most part). And I do have slight dimming issues. So when it's a black screen (as I go to with every new monitor to see if there are issues because I have moderate OCD and can't stand having anything but a near perfect display) I see a slight halo of light around the cursor. But it's not bad. That wouldn't be the issue. The dot is.

Purchased this monitor when it was released and am using it with my PS5 and M1 MacBook Pro. So far I’m loving it except for some parts of the HDR. I say some parts because when watching movies and gaming in HDR, I notice the local dimming (when set to high) causing the image to exhibit haloing that looks different from what I’ve seen in other Sony LED backlight displays. This only happens in a pitch black room with no bias lighting but it’s actually kinda distracting. To the point where I feel like turning local dimming to low is a better option with HDR content. I find it’s most noticeable with contrasty HDR movie scenes but when you know what to look for it’s noticeable with pretty much all HDR content. You get haloing in the form of squiggly white lines that move around frame depending where highlighted objects/subjects are in the frame. Not sure if it’s just my panel but given that the monitor has none of the screen defects people have been posting online about, I want to say I have a solid panel. Just wondering if anyone can add to this discussion. I love this monitor and if this is a normal backlight consequence on a 27 inch screen, I’m willing to put up with it. But if it’s a defect, then I feel like I should swap it out while the return window is still good. Thanks all 🤘🏼

There are some really sweet monitors in the 200-400 range, I cant imagine that someone is actually getting $500 worth of features unless they are actually using it for color accuracy which people who actually care will get a creator monitor. So how does kvm work exactly? It just knows what input is powered on/off and just switches?

    • @palniok
      @palniok 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mannyfresh7065 you select the device you want to control (with k+m) and see output video. KVM is a box equivalent of disconnecting and connecting the cables. It just does it inside the box with some electronics so you don't have to do it manually.

I just got this monitor and it absolutely refused to update the firmware at first. Tried like 20 different cables according to their convoluted update process and finally got it to work. It would have went back today if it didn't update last night. Highly recommend the USB-B/DisplayPort update method that's on their support site if you're updating from M006 to M009. After updating the VRR works great and there's a lot less screen tearing on PC. Ryzen 9 5950x/4080 FE/64 GB RAM configuration.
Edit: I didn't like the stand. However, it wasn't a deal breaker for me because it's on a VESA mount currently.

What value would be better for a pure ps5 player this or the odyssey g7 38 inch 4k? U can get it for about 600 bucks.. is this monitor for pure ps5 gaming maybe watching movies at times worth the extra 300?

Looks cool. But I can't really get my head around paying 899 for something like this, when the LG B1 is 670 and the C1 is 750 sometimes over here. Yea they're big, but they're also better.

Yep, I have the C2 and the M9. The M9 is trash compared to the C2. I play on the PS5 and the C2 looks absolutely amazing with it. I just need to find a monitor that looks as good as the C2, because I like gaming on the 27 inch screen.

I stopped paying attention to any HDR certifications because most of them are ass. The only metrics I'm interested are in the screen percentage sustained brightness. Especially after having the M1 Max MacBook Pro and a LG C1, my requirements for a "HDR capable" monitor/screen is at a minimum 1,000 nits for 100% white screen.

The stand seems really bad. But that "navigation nipple" and power button on the back always irritates me: I understand they're trying to hide the input buttons, but placing them in the back means you have to know where they are before using the monitor. I would prefer a side or bottom placement, and the "nipple" could be replaced with those old red trackpoint rubber buttons that existed in the middle of laptop keyboards before the touchpad replaced it.

The PS5 HDR config menu is inaccurate. I'd use a light meter to measure the actual lumen output. I use an online guide from someone that's figured those values out.

Just feedback on the joystick, I think that most often is absolute trash because we just lost dedicated input switchers because of it. Switching between inputs is something many people do and the joystick never gets an easy way to do that. They all pick volume for left/right and some other feature nobody uses for up and down. Its nice this at least has a dedicated power button, because who wants blinking lights all the time if you aren't using it, but multiple inputs without dedicated input switcher is so terrible. I've gone and bought a separate switcher because of it and it added a lot of cables to my desktop, always making it seem messy.

For £900 it is not good value. Samsung 1440p 240hz G7 for half or G9 and mini LED 4K G8 165hz for the same price or for a little more the mini LED 4K G8 32" 240hz and 4K QN90B 43". or go LG OLED C2 42" 4K or even Samsung mini LED QN90A 50" for £550. BTW i own or owned every pannel listed barring the 165hz G8. This Sony panel ain't got the chops or value for the money.

It also looks like you can't tilt the monitor down at all to face you well. It looked like in some of the shots the bottom of the monitor was grinding along the stand itself. It certainly looks cool, but that's about it.
