The jokes about the DIs wanting guys to drown were on point. They wanted a few guys in my platoon to get dropped so bad, trying to get in their heads every second of swim qualification. It was hilarious 😂 they kicked me out of the pool and I didn’t even touch anything. Hard to fool those instructors, they’ll kick you out if they don’t like the way you look 😆
Damn that’s sad. My SDI actually tried to help me swim at the pool bc I struggled to pass. My killhat also made me learn to swim his way instead of letting me fail. My DIs must’ve gave a fuck then
Don't worry about swim Qual. It's not like regular swimming, they'll show you what to do and how to do it..just do it exactly as they show you..and keep a distance from others in the pool, because if someone loses their shit and grabs you and you both sink ..you still fail even tho another pulled you down.
This is really useful and good advice video👍 I’m also a good swimmer, however hearing this video. I’m gonna be more aware and 100% all ears to the swim instructors.
If you're a good swimmer you'll have no problems at all. My high school phys ed teacher was an ex marine so I had a huge advantage. He taught his classes during pool week exactly the same way it was during swim qual. Idk what they call it now but I swam WSQ, the best qual you can get and the DI's never fucked with me again.
Funny stuff. I was an 1803 with a CWS1 qual. Serving as a swim instructor in 2009 at MCRD San Diego was one of the most enjoyable things I ever got to do.
1980. I went to swim call at Paris Island. 150 lbs 30" waist. Negative buoyant, floating on my back, my nose barley poked through the stairs water. Boots and rallies on I still passed.
I failed the thread water the first day. I would have failed the second try, but the swim instructor ignored me when I tried to tap out, but I said forget it and relaxed and passed.
This, is amazing. It's a really nice change on your channel, and you actually have a good sense of humor. Just about everything you did in this video made me laugh, while still telling me like it is. You should do more videos like this, I think it'll be good for you and I loved it.
Did not mean to send that yet, but I think you should have a serious vibe when it's something serious, and then videos like these when it's just what it is

Yes they will teach you certain techniques on how to swim in boot camp but I prefer if you learn them now instead of waiting ...it’ll be easier once you get there ....trust me I’ve been through 13-weeks of hell 😂...
Trell, I’m heading to boot camp next month and was wondering If you could do a vid or a response to the following; I’m 26, went to college was about to graduate but then all this COVID stuff happened I decided to put school on hold and join the reserves. Any advise you Could give to someone like me that joined at an older age than most?
Just make sure you are in good physical shape that's the biggest problem older guys face is that they just can't keep up because some of their bodies have already been through a lot
TuLeaf they didn’t held me back ...they will give you multiple chances to pass it ....so for us it started on a Monday and the last day to pass it was on a Saturday or Sunday ...so therefore Monday and Tuesday I failed the swim qual and Wednesday morning I passed it ...they’ll make sure you pass it tho 👍🏽
TuLeaf yeah don’t worry just don’t give up throughout boot camp training ....the drill instructors will try to get into your mind ...DONT LET IT HAPPEN ! 🙂👍🏽 good luck ! Semper fi !
You will get a nose full of water. Lat one arm across your body and flutter kick until you level out. Frog kick after that and you will begin to ascend to the surface.
Memphis, I have a homework assignment for you: 1. Watch “Heartbreak Ridge” with Clint Eastwood. Observe your “hairstyle” twin-Mario Van Peebles. This Marine movie was made before you were born.
Actually this video made me so negative.. really glad to know all stuff. But my son can’t swim… it’s horrible right? I’m gonna be horrible during my son’s swim week:(
It’s better to learn before hand, Bc the way they teach you in boot won’t be a comfortable learning experience or something you’re used to. So to avoid the alone time with the swimming instructors learn how before!
Do y'all like videos like these, that are a little more on the funny side or do y'all like the more serious vibe?
These videos are great man, funny but informative at the same time
Very entertaining and informative. More please! 😂
heyy man, can you do a video about non us citizen wanting to join the US mirenes? love you're channel.
great fun, think you can help out with the insignias, and what they are?
Dude swimming is one of the things I’m most concerned about and this really helped.

These stories are so funny!!! I hope my son sees it this way when he finishes. Swim week is his greatest worry too.
Great video and great advice.
1st and 2nd class swim qualifications are significantly harder than 3rd class qualifications.
Do a video about your crucible experience
I hope he doesn’t do a video on it, it’s something you have to experience yourself
