I don't think I was lied to at all by my recruiter. I went to him, not the other way around, and I told him I wanted to be an MP. From there it was just a matter of getting it done and within a year I was a Marine MP. No regrets what-so-ever. Semper Fi, Marines.

Depending on where you are stationed, as a young MP you will spend a lot of time on "gate duty." That can be a lot of fun at times. Then once you get some rank you basically work as a policeman on base. Traffic stops, responding to calls for service, etc. It was a great job. I loved it.

Now I'm a senior and after HS I ship off to basic for the Army in June (as of 2021) I decided to go with Army instead because it is the branch that I know most about and have done the most research on. I completely respect and support the marines still it was just that recruiter that just wasn't truthful and my lack of knowledge on the marine corp and the military in general at the time.
PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND: Honestly, I really want to join the Marine Corp but it's like playing Russian Roulette. They will give you a field and you MAY have a chance (or so I've heard that's how it works) to land the exact MOS you want. Army guarantees your MOS if it's in the contract. You primary reason should be to become a Marine! Let that be the strongest reason because you might not get what you want!
Your Butler roll the dice and see where life takes you. Some people were disappointed being a electrician, heavy equipment operator or worse a waterdog. But after mos school and they got in the fleet, its the best thing that happened to them. They thought they signed a combat engineer contract but they got a engineer field contract. If one thing life thought me, things you think that sucks now, is actually a blessing later.
I’m 20 days from boot camp and now I’m having doubts because I was given a different MOS from what they almost promised me, I joined in the first place for a career in that MOS
1. You actually can make a lateral move in the Marines, but it is very temporary. It depends on the situation. In food service, sometimes you can request to work at the BOQ or Bachelor Officer Quarters as a front desk clerk. It starts like for 3 months, but you can get extensions. I did it for about 7 or so months. He is also incorrect about a whole list of jobs in the Marines. The Marines is small and very limited on positions. They have more people applying than what they have positions for that's why they stick a lot of people in MOS they didn't want. 2. I have found that they generally pick your last duty station (you usually do two) that is closest to where your family is, so if you are from the East Coast but request Cali, you won't get Cali you might get N. Carolina or something because it's closest to your home.
Enlisted as a tanker. Dumb grunt SGT read off our MOS’s the morning we were graduating MCT. Received artillery. The notice read, “changed based on needs of the Marine Corps.” Yup. The shit sucks

jonathan Cortés I hear admins got it pretty chill. After all they are administrative so they’re going to be inside a lot doing computer things. I’ve also heard they PT a little more then most MOS since they’re inside and sit a lot. That’s what I’ve heard
@@RoyalBandit I was supply admin logistics clerk and I did pt as much as possible. I has a desk job but I also got assigned to a grunt unit as well. Your enlistment will be as easy as you make it.

My recruiter was completely honest. He said if I’m first in my class then I can choose where to be stationed at but if I’m last in my class, then they give the left overs?
My recruiter was pretty straight forward with me. I told him MOS’s I was interested in and he gave me a brief description of what he knew of the MOS’s & he gave me a paper with a list of MOS’s. (Then again that was in February & I’m enlisting in May) so maybe he was just less pushy because I wasn’t enlisting for a while.
I wanna do recon but my recruiter told me I can just go infantry and do a lat move in 2 years. He also said infantry swims too so basically I’ll be getting prepared those two years. I don’t think that’s what infantry units do (swim and stuff)
They call infantry grunts for a reason because they grunt at the bullshit they have to do infantry sucks unless it’s war time they’ll have you sleeping in the field for months and doing labor

Your tattoo. I know that before you enlist you have to get a waver for any and all tattoo's that you have on your body. Did you have to be cleared to get a tattoo whilst inside the corps? If so, how long was the wait time. Because, I myself want to get a tattoo but I'm waiting until I graduate and become a marine. I was supposed to ship next week but Corona got to my Meps in NY and fucked me over.

There’s career planners that are there to help you with LAT moves. If you don’t qualify for those jobs that’s on you. It is possible to LAT move I’ve seen people do it.
Especially picking MARSOC with the recruiter if they unq on the range in boot camp or mess up swim qual 1 or pft is not 260 and not used to running with ruck or running like 0311s they will not make MARSOC and do good at land navigation. Trying to make MARSOC getting through MCT or ITB is very difficult . Better getting their hands dirty with the fleet and trying out for Recon , Sniper if they make it then go to MARSOC lol
I got everything I signed up for in my contract. I told him I wanted to leave anytime after Christmas. I wanted east coast and got it. My recruiter told me the strippers were ugly at camp Lejeune. He was right aboutthattoo.if my recruiter lied to me I still don't know what the lie would be.my mos was eliminated when I was in boot camp. They told me I could leave right now with an honorable discharge because they breached the contract by eliminating the mos. They offered me a similar mos in the same category.I had 3 weeks to go until graduation. I told them I didn't go through all this shit to leave on a technicality.I have 3 weeks to go and I'm seeing it through. If I was only 3 weeks in it would be a different story. That day I went from a purchasing and contract mos to combat supply. Best decision I ever made.

I swore in for Army then changed my mind. Recruiter told me it was too late cause I'd sworn in. Went to a Navy office and told them the situation. They said as long as your feet have not touched military soil (bootcamp) you can change your mind without given them any notice or reason and its nothing they can do about it. So I just never showed up to MEPS for the ship out and nothing ever happened to me. That was 20 years ago.
So I saw you say you’d switch to logistics, and I qualify for that, but also I wanted infantry, and I have to pick 3 but I only have two MOS so far that I qualify for (Infantry, Combat Engineer) and I need a third, and me knowing that I qualify for logistics, what makes you want that MOS? Marine. You need to do your research. At Recruiting School. The one thing that is stressed ( as only Tha Corps can do ). We are trained. Never to sell a job. It will bite you in the ass every time. I have you in my office. You want to be an MP. Your 18, you are looking for a future in law enforcement. Now, I tell Gunny. I got someone ready to go. Gunny says. To be an MP. You have to be 21 and over. You need to have an ASVAB score of 50 or above. You scored 43. Now what do you do ?. Recruiters are trained to sell being a Marine. Not jobs. Even if you get a contract like yours. All we can guarantee is a Job Field. Not a specific MOS. You have to be mentally, physically and Morally qualified to to be guaranteed a job field. The Worst part of being a recruiter. Is telling someone. Who wants to join, would do that person a hell of a lot of good. They are unqualified. Low ASVAB score, Drug use, Too much Police involvement, on probation, Depent children. There's a whole lot more to the actual job of Recruiting. That you don't know. If you decide to re-up and make Sergeant. Your Pro and Cons. Changes to a Fitness report. At which time. You will be asked to choose other Duty stations. Where they might just send you to one of your choices. DI and Recruiting included. Recruiting Duty did help me in making me a better Marine. Especially on my return to the FMF. I can tell you more positive stories of my Marines going open contract. Than you can believe. I'll hold off for another time. But yes !. Ask your Recruiter questions. The good Recruiter. If you want to go recon 110% you can get it in your contract and have a guaranteed shot at Recon, but if you fail, your at the needs of us Marine Corps. All it takes is all you got, good luck 👍

yea just go on an infantry contract (03XX) and i’m pretty sure you will have a shot at volunteering for recon but if you fail you just go back to infantry.

There’s career planners that are there to help you with LAT moves. If you don’t qualify for those jobs that’s on you. It is possible to LAT move I’ve seen people do it.

Especially picking MARSOC with the recruiter if they unq on the range in boot camp or mess up swim qual 1 or pft is not 260 and not used to running with ruck or running like 0311s they will not make MARSOC and do good at land navigation. Trying to make MARSOC getting through MCT or ITB is very difficult . Better getting their hands dirty with the fleet and trying out for Recon , Sniper if they make it then go to MARSOC lol

I got everything I signed up for in my contract. I told him I wanted to leave anytime after Christmas. I wanted east coast and got it. My recruiter told me the strippers were ugly at camp Lejeune. He was right aboutthattoo.if my recruiter lied to me I still don't know what the lie would be.my mos was eliminated when I was in boot camp. They told me I could leave right now with an honorable discharge because they breached the contract by eliminating the mos. They offered me a similar mos in the same category.I had 3 weeks to go until graduation. I told them I didn't go through all this shit to leave on a technicality.I have 3 weeks to go and I'm seeing it through. If I was only 3 weeks in it would be a different story. That day I went from a purchasing and contract mos to combat supply. Best decision I ever made.

I swore in for Army then changed my mind. Recruiter told me it was too late cause I'd sworn in.
Went to a Navy office and told them the situation. They said as long as your feet have not touched military soil (bootcamp) you can change your mind without given them any notice or reason and its nothing they can do about it.
So I just never showed up to MEPS for the ship out and nothing ever happened to me. That was 20 years ago.
My recruiter told me that Boot camp is going to really suck but as long as I'm motivated and don't lose focus I'll make it through.

So I saw you say you’d switch to logistics, and I qualify for that, but also I wanted infantry, and I have to pick 3 but I only have two MOS so far that I qualify for (Infantry, Combat Engineer) and I need a third, and me knowing that I qualify for logistics, what makes you want that MOS? Just depends if you're able to at the time because if you're needed at your current MOS then no you wouldn't be able to
Marine. You need to do your research. At Recruiting School. The one thing that is stressed ( as only Tha Corps can do ). We are trained. Never to sell a job. It will bite you in the ass every time.
I have you in my office. You want to be an MP. Your 18, you are looking for a future in law enforcement.
Now, I tell Gunny. I got someone ready to go. Gunny says. To be an MP. You have to be 21 and over. You need to have an ASVAB score of 50 or above. You scored 43.
Now what do you do ?.
Recruiters are trained to sell being a Marine. Not jobs. Even if you get a contract like yours. All we can guarantee is a Job Field. Not a specific MOS.
You have to be mentally, physically and Morally qualified to to be guaranteed a job field.
The Worst part of being a recruiter. Is telling someone. Who wants to join, would do that person a hell of a lot of good. They are unqualified. Low ASVAB score, Drug use, Too much Police involvement, on probation, Depent children.
There's a whole lot more to the actual job of Recruiting. That you don't know. If you decide to re-up and make Sergeant.
Your Pro and Cons. Changes to a Fitness report. At which time. You will be asked to choose other Duty stations. Where they might just send you to one of your choices. DI and Recruiting included.
Recruiting Duty did help me in making me a better Marine. Especially on my return to the FMF.
I can tell you more positive stories of my Marines going open contract. Than you can believe. I'll hold off for another time.
But yes !. Ask your Recruiter questions. The good Recruiter. Will answer all your questions. Not B.S an applicant.

yea just go on an infantry contract (03XX) and i’m pretty sure you will have a shot at volunteering for recon but if you fail you just go back to infantry.
