Sometimes those chaotic sessions are the most rewarding. Lovely fish that first one. 68 cm - that's approaching 8 lbs. As you say imagine that on the lure rod. I had a 62 cm one on the lures a couple of weeks back and that lead me a merry dance !
Cheers. Yeah I weighed it off camera and it was only 5.4lb. This video was from a little while back so it would’ve been just after most the fish would’ve spawned.
great advice about the fishing line. i find dicgarded line all over the beach. why people can't just take their stuff home, empty water bottles, beer cans etc. with them i don't know
No need to apologise cal, the video was excellent and very entertaining, well done great effort in trying conditions, what a beast to start with, did you return her and if you did ,did she go back ok after such a hard fight, cheers pal
Hi Cal, I have been watching your videos often from hospital bed in recent months. They helped me to get away from reality for a while, thank you. I am well enough now to do some short sessions of fishing again. I am thinking of getting a new reel. You are using the Vanford 4000XG, can I ask you why why choose this one over the 4000MHG? I am on the fence, dont know which one to get. The MHG is slower and the M spool but still take well over 300m of PE 0.8 braid. Then the XG has regular spool that takes 490m of PE 1 but it has higher gear ratio. Given the choice I am a bit lost. Help😂
Hi mate. I’m glad to hear you’re on the mend 💪🏼 I went for the XG purely for the higher gear ratio. To be completely honest with you, I never delve too deep into all the different styles of one reel! I’ll tend to go for an XG in most of my spinning reels. The only thing I pay attention to is the retrieve rate on a reel. What I can say is that the Vanford is the nicest spinning reel I’ve used for my bass fishing yet! It’s super smooth and very lightweight. I have it on a Shimano rod and it’s so comfortable to use. Very lightweight so easy on the arms when you’re casting for long periods. Mines actually being serviced right now so I’ve put a penn slammer 3500 on my bass rod and man can I tell the difference. In my personal opinion the slammer is overrated. It’s a nice reel don’t get me wrong, but for my style of fishing the vanford is brilliant.
@@FISHINGWITHCAL Thank you Cal, the Vanford 4000XG it is then. It's coming Friday, just placed the order. So looking forward to getting out there again. I need that more than anything right now. All the best and tight lines!
Hi Cal, great session mate and a lovely bass at the start. Im interested to know what the yellow dot that was on the screen with the number 35 in it ? Rob T from Brixham.
Super Bass Cal. A very satisfying result for the session.
Liked and shared. Quality as always.

Thanks mate 👍🏼 That’s just a road sign with the speed limit on it. I was right next to the roadside there.
It’s better you showed it, we all have crazy sessions, you just happen to catch a cracking bass straight if the mark…
👍🇨🇦
100% 🙂
2,50 here in EIRE we would call that a minnow ,7 to 10 pounds would be the usual size
Sure
