  • I've had more requests for this tutorial than anything else, so here's the 7-Circuit Chartres variation for all the subscribers. Surprisingly, it also shows how the 7-Circuit Classical is embedded in the DNA of the medieval Chartres labyrinth! So you get two tutorials in one and you can use this process to create other concentric labyrinths as well. Let me know if you have any thoughts, questions, or ideas for future videos and thanks for your likes, comments, and subscriptions. Remember you can pause and rewind to follow along at your own pace. I use graph paper and a compass but you can do this freehand as well. For an extended course on drawing labyrinths see my Teachable account: veriditas.teac...

Great video - so coherent, Lars! Thanks for sharing. So many valuable bits of information - Classic labyrinth embedded in Chartres Essence got my attention.

Thank you for sharing this informative video! It's been killing me, trying to figure out how to make one on my own. 😂

Intresting how all the darkened areas look like chalices

How do you go from your drawing to laying the pattern out on the ground?

What compass are you using in this video?

Hey Lars, thx for the tutorial! One question: do you add the lunations to this variant as well, or that remains with the Chartres pattern only? Thanks, Peter (cheers from Hungary and hail to our joint Chartres labyrinth mamories!) :)

Hi Peter! Good question. We do often add the lunations and rosette to this variation. In the full 11-Circuit Chartres there are 112 lunations which may represent four lunar months, so on the 7-Circuit we use 84 to represent three lunar months and on the 5-Circuit we use 56 to represent two. The rosette is the same, but harder to create in smaller centers which is another good reason to expand the center beyond 1/4 diameter in smaller labyrinths. Chartres variations with small centers really become compromised. I really treasure our meeting in Chartres and creating that labyrinth together. Here's hoping we cross paths again someday soon.

Thank You SO MUCH for this tutorial!! I used it to lay out a Labrynth on my rural property - something I've been wanting to do for many years, and one of the reasons we bought a home with acreage, in the first place. I thought it would be way more complicated and require major geometry skills LOL. But you simplified the drawing, and step-by step moving of the lines on each circle to make this a doable project!! Forever grateful.
