    Your reels are awesome! Get that Saragosa 25000 next please. I think the new version coming out will be made cheap and less features. So I would get them while ya can. I did already, so I'm safe. Good fishing, landing your big shark was skill. I'm at Port Aransas TX and catch them off the end of the jetty.

    I have the exact same reels and I agree the penn slammer 3 10500 and the daiwa saltist 8000 are probably the best reels out there right now

    How easy is it to change the spool? Does the 8000 come out of the box with an xtra spool.

      I've caught a handful of big fish on it, including a 95lb. bull shark. It smoked the little Bull in, handled it well, felt great. I approve.

    Great video, thanks. I'd love to get your recommendation on which surf rod you would pair with the 8000.

    • @ScottMikles
      @ScottMikles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would go with a Penn Carnage 2 12 ft. I have it in Heavy and it's been great. Depends on what you're targeting , but on an 8k it's going to be a heavier setup so go med heavy or heavy strength.

    The 2016 is way smoother than 2021 MQ. Yes I have both.

    What you guys recommend for tuna 100lb? From the saltist mq line up

    • @ScottMikles
      @ScottMikles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd recommend at least a 14000 in the Satist MQ. or the 18k

    200$
    -Penn Slammer III 6500
    -saltist mq 8000
    which one is better ? Thanks

    • @ScottMikles
      @ScottMikles  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go with the MQ for lighter or go with the slammer for stronger drag.

  • @jakelencher817
    @jakelencher817 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    you know.... i used to have a daiwa bg before i got my slammer, we were out jetty fishing and i threw a fairly large cut mullet, it had part of the head and body on there, just walking around i turn around to grab my rod and next thing i know my rod is running away from my hand, it did a couple cringy scrapes along the jetty and then it was gone, so i then went on to get a penn battalion and a penn slammer 5500, works great for the jettys, i plan my next daiwa reel being the saltist.

    • @ScottMikles
      @ScottMikles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's heavy Jake.
      Your story reminds me of a jetty experience I had and why I'll never buy another baseline BG(not saltist or MQ). A guy with a larger model basic BG hooked a solid tarpon and it trashed his reel after a few runs during the fight. His drag burned out or gears started to fail, either way he wasn't able to put enough pressure and the tarpon got away eventually due to his reel breaking.
      I don't know how he treated his gear, but ever since I won't buy the original BG.
      The MQ and saltist are built to be more durable and around saltwater, can't go wrong. I take my 8000 Saltist and 6000 BG MQ everytime I go out.
      Also have to remember it was a massive tarpon so I cut the BG a little slack.

      @@ScottMikles also not to mention the fish broke the rod holder, it was only held with zipties but i dont know anyone who can break a ziptie, it didnt even break it it just threaded the ziptie backwards.

    I have a slammer3 8500HS. Do you have a rod recommedation?

    • @ScottMikles
      @ScottMikles  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Whether you are surf fishing or boat fishing will be a major factor in style of rod. As far as what model to pair with that reel, the Carnage 2 by Penn. I have their boat version and surf version. They are top tier, well built, beastly rods.

      Yeah, that's what fishing from the beach is called. Where the waves meet the beach is the "surf".

    The gearing in the Saltist doesn't compare to the gears in the Slammer III. Cast Zinc main gear for the Saltist compared to Brass for the Slammer III.
