I always find it hard to believe that people haven't been exposed to Pavarotti or various other tenors but then again we're all largely a product of our environment. I'm glad you have found Pavarotti! Excellent reaction by the way, no pauses as it should be (greatness is not to be paused, it is to be experienced)
We heard perfection. Perfect composition, perfect orchestration, perfect performances by orchestra and chorus, and utter perfection by Pavarotti. This is so amazing, and I also think your reaction was perfect as well.
Pavarotti was the tenor of our life time and beyond. Nessun Dorma is a song from the opera Turandot written by Puccini. The song describes the stage of a simple soldier in love with an unattainable princess, during a sleepless night, a forbidden love. But the soldier may have a way out of his dilemma, he will be in a battle in the morning, as he keeps believing that he will stand out in the battle and recognized by the unattainable princess after all. I was lucky enough to watch him live at a concert in Cleveland Ohio in the late nineties. Being an Italian born gives an edge on understanding opera and an appreciation for the art! Last month I was in Lucca Italy the birth place of Puccini, I visited his natal house, very interesting, the artist died in 1924.
Ah, I see. And this soldier's name was Prince Calaf, was it? And he had correctly answered the three riddles that Princess Turandot used to avoid suitors; anyone who failed was beheaded. And the "battle" was that the Princess had to discover his name before dawn in order to execute him, by beheading, and so avoid marrying him. Personally, I wouldn't want anything to do with the bloodthirsty bitch, but that's opera for you.
Everyone ends listening to this beautiful aria. Shaking their head in bewilderment… to me some art and music is ‘supernatural. For some reason God just poured grace into the artist that jumped him up and out of our limited natural range.
You can find a performance with the lyrics, just type Pavorotti Nessum Dorma with lyrics in the search box above. There are also many other performances of this area sung by Pavarotti over his long career. You can see him when he was much younger, or performing for the close of the Olympics, in a movie, or with other opera singers.
You're so cute! :) I loved your natural and immediate reaction to the song without even pausing or doing a second video about it. :) A shy meow and hello from Switzerland to you! :)
It is a story of a man who love a princess and wanted to marry her. He had to answer 3 questions right or he would die. This is about his victory in winning her hand.
@@simplyamabilis The story is a bit more complicated than that. The prince, played here by Pavarotti, solves all three of her riddles, but when he sees that the princess, whose name is Turandot, still refuses to marry him, he sets her a challenge: he tells her that if she can discover his name by morning he will stop insisting she marry him, but if she doesn't, she will agree to marry him. She agrees to his challenge, then sends out her servants to discover his name, telling them that if they don't she will execute them (you see them in the middle of the song - the choir - singing about their worry that they won't find his name, and be killed). Here Pavarotti is not singing about his victory, he's singing about his challenge to the cold princess (who has executed every man who wanted her hand in marriage but failed her riddles) and his belief that he will win the challenge and marry her. The prince's name is Calaf, and the princess does discover it, but when the morning comes and she's asked what his name is, rather than tell what she knows, she says, 'his name is Love' (as she's fallen in love with him by this point), and she marries him.
@@simplyamabilis You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed the story of Turandot - I always liked it too! :) Opera is a pretty interesting storytelling medium, and always dramatic, and you're right, a lot of operas could be made into movies (and some have). By the way, if you'd like to see or react to another great piece, you can check out the flash mob of Beethoven's 'Ode To Joy'. This music piece is one of the most famous in history (it's very powerful, and very loved for it's message of unity among all people), and is written by one of the greatest composers in history. The amazing thing is that when Beethoven wrote the symphony that this song comes from he was almost completely deaf, and he never actually got to really hear it; some people say that he would "hear" (imagine) the music through the vibrations the instruments made in the floor he was standing on. Can you imagine writing music you can't even really hear, and they turn out to be some of the greatest songs in history? I still find that incredible, and I grew up with 'Ode To Joy' (as many have). Anyway, if you want to check out this Beethoven flash mob video (and maybe react to it?) it's here: th-cam.com/video/cxLbmnvMWM0/w-d-xo.html

" Nessun dorma" means let us sleep, now. But ultimately, the singer is psyching himself up to face the challenges the next day will bring. He is determined to succeed, which is why it builds so powerfully, and the last word, "Vincero", repeated 3 times, literally means ^ I will be victorious! "
Nessen dorma in Italian means "Don't sleep". It's the story from the opera Turendot about a prince who is in love with a princess. She is playing hard to get and he knows that in the morning he will win her hand because he has the answer to her riddle. The last three words of the song are Vittoire, Vittoire, Vittiore which in Italian means Victory. He knows he will WIN!!!. Luciano was the greatest voice in modern times. He has many other wonderful songs well worth listening to.
Ciao - This is one of the coolest Arias the Final Act of Opera Turandot Calaf (unknown Prince- most probably Persia ) ( Tenor Role- Pavarotti in this clip) is Singing the Aria Nessun Dorma (Nobody Sleep/ Let no one Sleep . Calaf Fell in love with Turandot- a cold beautiful and Lethal Princess who says you can be with me if you solve 3 riddles , and if he does not, she will kill him and he does solve the riddles - and out of honor he says to her if you can tell me my name , then he will die - she has til the next morning to solve his riddle - and she is going kill the townspeople who do not tell her his name.. so at the time of this aria - very late night - the Tenor ( Calaf sings) the aria NESSUN DORMA ... ( when you hear the chorus sing - they are the towns peopel and they say -nobody shall know his nam e- and we my gosh- will die as a result ) translation of the aria NOBODY SHAL SLEEP , NOBODY SHALL SLEEP, EVEN YOU PRINCESS, IN YOUR COLD BEDROOM, WATCH THE STARTS THAT SHINE OF LOVE AND HOPE, BUT MY MYSTERY IS CLOSED IN ME,NO ONE SHALL KNOW MY NAME NO , NO, ON YOUR MOUTH (meaning hen he kisses her in the morning-after he has one the bet) , I SHALL TELL YOU, WHEN THE LIGHT SHINES/MORNING COMES, AND MY KISS WILL DISOLVE THE SILENCE, THAT MAKES YOU MINE, ! THEN THE CHORUS ( SEE EARLIER TRANSLATION) VANISH O NIGHT, SUNSETTING STARS, IN TH EMORNING, I SHALL WIN, I SHALL WIN, I SHALL WIN (VINCERO HE SINGS 3 TIMES, HIGHER AN DHIGHER AND LONGER/ MOR POWERFULLY) the great news is that opera has so many great singers and pieces and compositions a very inspirational aria as the main theme is I SHALL WIN and in 1988 the Italian World Cup men's soccer team had this aria as the official song them for that year for the team . The theme music you here in this aria is the them that comes up earlier in the Opera Turandot in a short aria called Il Mio Nome Non Sai .. - you can plug that into youtube and you will hear the basic same theme music as nessun dorma -- ( il mio nome non sai- you don't know my name...) -it its the part where Calaf gives Turandot the riddle to find out what is hs name before the morning and then if she is does, he dies- ) but she does nt- he lives - happy ending - for Calaf and Turandot - not so much for anyone that Turndot killed to find out his name- Turandot is one beautiful but a very tough customer !!! Arrivaderci !
@@simplyamabilis Ciao Simply Amabilis ! Luciano was a super tenor - loved many other tenors - but the one he loved the most was one called Giuseppe di Stefano who is simply ut of this world - has done so many incredible performances one of them is from Puccin's opera Tosca and if you put in the you toube searche ... Giuseppe di Stefano - E lucevan le stelle (Studio recording) .. you will hear on of the great ones - I am curious to hear your thoughts after yu have hear it arrivaderci :) note-- ( Nessun Dorma is also from a Puccini Opera called Turandot )
…also for you. TURANDOT The story tale In Beijing, at the time of fairy tales, lives Turandot, a beautiful princess with a cold heart. Many princes ask for her hand, but the princess subjects everyone to a terrible test: if they don't solve three very difficult puzzles, the executioner cuts off their heads. Prince Calaf, son of the king of the Tartars, casually meets his father Timur in Beijing, who arrived there after a long exile; with him is also the faithful slave Liù. The prince, in order not to run any risks, advises them to keep his identity secret. Calaf is so fascinated by Turandot that he wants to try the riddles himself; the imperial dignitaries Ping, Pong and Pang strongly advise him against carrying out such a risky undertaking; his father and Liù also beg him to give up, but the prince doesn't listen to reason. The following day Calaf manages to solve all of Turandot's riddles. However, he does not want to marry her against her will, so he offers her a way out: if she can guess her name before dawn, she can sentence him to death. That night Turandot orders that nobody sleeps in Peking: her guards knock from door to door to be told the name of the foreign prince. Eventually they find Timur and Liù, and lead them in front of Turandot; Liù sings of her secret love for the prince and then, afraid of letting her name slip under torture, she kills herself with a sword. While everyone mourns her death, Calaf, left alone with Turandot, faces her firmly, until he finally manages to melt her frozen heart with a kiss. It is now the dawn of a new day when Calaf reveals her name, putting her life in her hands. Before her emperor father and the cheering crowd, Turandot declares that the stranger's name is 'Love', and she embraces him. The lyrics Nobody sleep! Nobody sleep! You too, oh princess, In your cold room, You look at the stars Who tremble with love And of hope. But my mystery is closed in me, My name no one will know! No, no, on your lips I will say it When the light will shine! And my kiss will dissolve the silence That makes you mine! Go away, oh night! Go down, stars! Go down, stars! I'll win at dawn! I will win, I will win! I'm Italian, obviously.
None shall sleep, None shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love And with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No... no... On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
What is the English translation of ‘Nessun dorma’? None shall sleep, None shall sleep! Even you, oh Princess, In your cold room, Watch the stars, That tremble with love And with hope. But my secret is hidden within me, My name no one shall know, No... no... On your mouth, I will tell it, When the light shines. And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine! (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!
[CALAF] No one sleeps! No one sleeps! Even you, oh princess In your cold room Look at the stars That tremble with love and with hope But my mystery is locked inside me No one will know my name! No, no! On your mouth I will say it when the light shines Disappear, night! Fade away, stars! Fade away, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

It's the story of 3 suitors attempting to win the hand of a princess and one of the suitors saying to the princess,if I can guess your name I will become your Prince if not you can have me killed.
what has your colour got to do with it? A black girl reacts to....etc? So what? I'm confused at that and the reason for putting it. I'm just unsure what it has to do with reacting to a video. As a person of colour myself i find it odd.
The truth is; color has no bearing on the quality of art... especially music. If it's good then it's good. Color doesn't dictate one's perception of quality. A person's humanity and humility supercedes any fake barriers. By showing your appreciation of this song you tell us all, that you have a good heart, and a sympathetic perception to emotion..... that say's so much about you. Keep on just as you are.
There is no such thing as race. Race is a social construct invented by mankind to categorize and divide people. As any anthropologist would tell you, there is no race.

Beautiful ⚘

TURANDOT
The story tale
In Beijing, at the time of fairy tales, lives Turandot, a beautiful princess with a cold heart.
The lyrics
Nobody sleep!
Nobody sleep!
You too, oh princess,
In your cold room,
You look at the stars
Who tremble with love
And of hope.
But my mystery is closed in me,
My name no one will know!
No, no, on your lips I will say it
When the light will shine!
And my kiss will dissolve the silence
That makes you mine!
Go away, oh night!
Go down, stars!
Go down, stars!
I'll win at dawn!
I will win, I will win!
I'm Italian, obviously.
You just let it wash over you and absorb what you hear.
None shall sleep,
None shall sleep!
Even you, oh Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
When the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win!
I will win!
I will win!
Absolutely beautiful! Thank you❤⚘
What is the English translation of ‘Nessun dorma’?
None shall sleep,
None shall sleep!
Even you, oh Princess,
In your cold room,
Watch the stars,
That tremble with love
And with hope.
But my secret is hidden within me,
My name no one shall know,
No... no...
On your mouth, I will tell it,
When the light shines.
And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!
(No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.)
Vanish, o night!
Set, stars! Set, stars!
At dawn, I will win!
I will win!
I will win!

But my mystery is locked inside me

Oh it's absolutely breathtaking! He's one of, if not the best voice I've ever had the privilege and pleasure to listen to. Thanks for this beautiful translation, Diamonds❤⚘
It's the story of 3 suitors attempting to win the hand of a princess and one of the suitors saying to the princess,if I can guess your name I will become your Prince if not you can have me killed.
Thanks for translating this, David⚘
Let no man sleep
And check out Maria Callas.
I will do. Thank you ⚘
Grande italiano!!!
Try young Carreras before his leukaemia singing E Lucevan La Stella. Find the words. Then try Gigli singing the same.
How do I react to it? I cry my eyes out. Glad you enjoyed it. Here's what it is about: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nessun_dorma

Listen to hi
M . There is a lot on youtube
it can only go downhill from here on
what has your colour got to do with it? A black girl reacts to....etc? So what? I'm confused at that and the reason for putting it. I'm just unsure what it has to do with reacting to a video. As a person of colour myself i find it odd.
The truth is; color has no bearing on the quality of art... especially music. If it's good then it's good. Color doesn't dictate one's perception of quality. A person's humanity and humility supercedes any fake barriers. By showing your appreciation of this song you tell us all, that you have a good heart, and a sympathetic perception to emotion..... that say's so much about you. Keep on just as you are.
Why does your race matter?
Because most blacks don't listen to opera, I'm guessing...well I didn't, up until now😊
There is no such thing as race. Race is a social construct invented by mankind to categorize and divide people. As any anthropologist would tell you, there is no race.
Maintenant, il chante pour Dieu et le Anges!!!
