    Your Italian pronunciation of his name and the song is one of the best I have heard in S. Africa. Someone who is not familiar with Italian. I strongly recommend GOOGLE "Turandot" and read the libretto (the story). At least this Aria. It is beautiful. The writer and composer of the Opera was Puccini. He also wrote what became the background melody of "Moon Struck"1980's He as of course long departed. But his Music lives. on.

    That guy oughtta stick with it. And the Puccini is like a three-stage rocket.
    Saw him perform once in Boston Esplanade Hatch Shell, while filming O Giorgio. Free concert. Why not. Plus I got to be a movie star. I'm the dot 47th across and 78th down during minute 63:34.

    if you want an idea about Pav's range in his younger years...try "ah,mes amis"
    th-cam.com/video/ASXYB_TQjpc/w-d-xo.html
    Short condensation...napoleanic wars backdrop..young Tryrolean falls in love with an orphan adopted by a french regiment. His head turned by love,he joins up to win her hand. Incredibly demaninding aria, as the composer has the tenor hit nine (9) highC's...actually eight, but those who can throw in an additional one, like Pav does.There is no lead up to the high C's...they are just there. A firecraker ending!
    This is a comedic opera, so in the end, the guy gets the girl. ("La Fille du Regiment" by Donizetti)

    • @susanhuy2819
      @susanhuy2819 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hope you got to listen and enjoyed! Just amazing how he throws out those high notes with ease. He also gets to show the comic side of his character in that opera.

    He (Calais, the forgotten prince in the opera), has returned to marry the cold princess. She doesn't want to marry, so has come up with three riddles for anyone to get her hand in marriage. Anyone who doesn't is beheaded.
    Calais does answer the three riddles and was in love with her on first sight. She still won't marry, so he slaps a riddle on her and if she can't answer it by morning, she'll have to marry him. She agrees. The riddle was to know his name and the answer must come by morning. The cold princess (Turandot) orders that none shall sleep ... and she tortures to find the name in time. That is why the principality is chanting in the background "nessun dorma".
    A woman in his history who had loved him falls on a blade to keep from saying his name and revealing to the cold princess who he was.
    The point of the song is that she has killed many for these three riddles and no one will speak his name. No one will sleep (Nessun Dorma) until the riddle is completed, but she can't, so she has to marry him. The aria ends with his song ending in "I will win". The woman who fell on the blade said with her dying breath, his name is "love", and the princess took that as truth. The princess answered the riddle incorrectly. She thought his name was "love", but it was "Calais", the forgotten prince who'd been loved so much by another woman that she gave her life for him to be happy.
