  • Hello fellow TH-camrs, this is how I save meat for my family that we use throughout the month. We live in a townhome and we'll also try to live on a budget. So we visit whole sale places for our home and food items. This is a small example on how we "stretch" our dollars. If you have any suggestions or comments please feel free to share. If you liked the video please subscribe and give it a like.

    I have the same sealer; I use mine when I find good deals on steaks and buy quite a few, he said he likes to use the meat in weeks to a month. I've sealed steaks and put them in my freezer and left them for over a year with NO freezer burn, and once thawed the meat grilled as good as fresh steaks, same texture and same flavor.... I've saved tons of money doing this, my motto when shopping is 'buy it cheap and stack it deep'......

    I just started using mine for meats and I’m seeing it leave some air pockets in the bag is that normal?

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, it's possible, if the meats form a tight dam across the bag, that may create an air pocket the pump isn't strong enough to overcome. Try to pack meats tightly, where reasonably possible, to lessen this likelihood. If these air pockets are a material problem, there may be something wrong with the pump. One way to check is to vac seal a solid object, such as a bar of soap. If the bag is pulled tightly around the bar, after sealing, then it sounds like something else may be causing the problem. For example, sometimes when sealing meat, a piece of sharp bone will puncture the bag, thus breaking the vacuum seal.
      Just some thoughts that may be useful.

    I can get the bag to seal the first seal, but when I add food, the vacuum scrunches up the food but does not seal, on either vacuum setting. I have a Foodsaver 820.

    Thank you. I was looking for a video on vacuum sealing a whole chicken but i didn't find one. I am wondering if it is cheaper to vacuum seal or shrink wrap. I like the way vacuum rap last longer in the freezer

    How long does this last if you put it in the freezer I am tired of thrown away meets that go back in the zip lock bags the freezer ones please comment back thank you very much

      FoodSaver folks say foods vacuum sealed in their bags lasts about 5 times longer than they would with other packaging. I can't say, 5 times for sure, but I do know foods last a whole lot longer when sealed and stored this way. Pulling air out cuts down considerably on freezer burn.

    What is with that AGGRAVATING noise in the background? WHY do TH-camrs think they have to attempt a Hollywood production to vacuum seal something. That "elevator music" is distracting and doesn't do a thing to enhance the video. In fact, it is very agitating.

    Unfortunately the meat on the shelf is already 1-3 months old... so calling it fresh is not correct.

    • @oldtimerlee8820
      @oldtimerlee8820 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It is "fresh" meat, if it has not been processed in some manner, such as freezing or brining or salt curing or cooking.

      Oldtimer Lee yeah, i do all this sealing within 2 hours of skinning my 🐐 or 🐄... my definition of fresh

    • @ryan8374
      @ryan8374 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not true. I have sat many hours at processing plants, waiting for loads that go straight to distribution centers. The plants and warehouses don't have the space for 1-3 months of storage.
