Here’s a tip to save you a bunch of time! Don’t take the whole latch out of the door and disconnect the rods. Just unscrew the latch and pull it back just enough to disconnect and connect the cables.
I watch e different videos which did not help they always cut the scene and then the next clip its out in her hand. But by watching these videos it helped me. I just disconnected the yellow clip took the three bolts out of the door lock, then you can pull the lock out where you can get a needle nose flyer to pull the cable off it was a breeze. Total job took less than 45 minutes
Thank you for this video but it has WAY TOO MANY UNNECESSARY STEPS!!! Skip between 7:00 and 8:07. This is NOT NEEDED! If you try to undo that yellow plastic clip that goes on the rod that goes up to the door lock most likely you'll break it - and because of the power window assembly on my truck I literally couldn't get my hand in there regardless. You don't need to use the pick tool to pop off that other rod either. Go to the 8:07 point where he undoes the torx screws. Undo those. The latch assembly is not very tight in there and you can easily pull the latch assembly forward towards the open area of the door (front of the truck direction) and you can get at the latch to replace the door handle cable. Now skip to 10:50 and watch to 11:40 to see how to remove the broken cable and put the new one in. Place the latch where it was and screw the torx screws back in. Now skip forward to 15:55 since all he is doing between 11:40 and 15:55 is reassembling the stuff he didn't need to disassemble in the first place. Resume watching at 15:55 and put everything back together. (This video also works for power windows as I have those in my 2011 Silverado - just be sure your power windows are up before starting this process- and I find the cable to window controls on the door panel are long enough you don't have to disconnect those to do this cable replacement either).
Looks like he skipped the part where the cable attaches to interior of the panel. All this work, and you would still find yourself having to roll down the window to open from the outside.
If you are referring to the inside of the door handle, wouldn't that be a given since you just hook cable back up in reverse of taking it out? The video worked fine for me.
@@paulmoon9818 connect the cable to the interior door handle. My clip broke off where you connect it to the interior door handle and that's why I'm here. They didn't show him connecting it.
You don't have to do all of this, forget the rods, not necessary. As soon as you get the panel off take the the three bolts out of lock mechanism, push forward to opening in door, change out cable, reassemble.
I was wondering about that. Have my door apart now. Waiting for the cable to come in a couple hours. Was going to try just removing the 3 bolts from the lock and pushing it back to get to the cable. Hoping I don't have to fool with the other stuff.
Ditto on the inside handle hookup. Thanks for the comments about not disconnecting the rods. Suggest the guys with the door not being able to unlock, problem is locking rod is not in correct position either in the yellow snap box or the grey plastic top of the rod. Thanks
Actually, With smaller hands you can align the left end cable up with the hole, insert it and push on the cable right end and the ball will extend further on the left, door mechanism side. The v notch is spring loaded, just let the cable end get caught behind and you are half way there. No need to remove 3 30 star bolts or manual lock bar from inside. Put the foam panel back in place. Then you can place right end cable ball in hole with needle nose plyers. THATS about it.
Second video by these guys that was zero help getting the cable off the back, one said "squeeze that clip" and the other said squeeze those tabs".. Both while blocking what they were actually doing. I only looked this up because I was tired of balancing the panel while trying to see what held the cable in. Thankfully there's a bunch of other videos that actually show you what you need to be doing back there... Instead of fishing around and breaking the cheap plastic these things are made of
So I’m having the same issue on my 2008 and wondering what causes the problem? What part of the cable is not connecting or allowing the function of the door handle to work properly?
I had to dremel tool a hole to get the second clip to come out, to hard of a reach area to manage to remove the pins on the cable. Overall, great video on how to do the task!
This video helped me overall but having power locks actually makes the replacement 10 times easier than the video shows. Just make sure you don't order cheap replacement parts online like i did and it will save you a headache.
Is this the same cable as for a door with power door locks? Or do you have the cable for doors with power locks? pretty sure they are different. thanks.
Stuck at 15:45 where the handle rod is supposed to latch to the yellow box with a "door" My truck doesn't have the door it just snapped off. Did I just break it or can this be fixed?
What do you do if the nylon ball on the end of the cable at the lock mechanism will not stay in place? I've installed the cable, put everything back together, and tested the interior handle, 4 times. Does not open the door. Pull everything apart again and the ball on the end of the cable at the door lock has pulled out of the Y-shaped fitting. It will not stay in.
+Antoinette Lopez Thank you for checking us out! No, it is not required to take out the battery to replace the door latch cable. Please let us know if you have nay further questions, thank you.
Overall ok but misses the boat where he loosens both vertical rods to the cylinder lock and the plunger lock. No need to do this, plus its a pain. Just skip those steps and remove the 3 external bolts holding the latch itself on. Once this is done the latch itself has enough play to access it and remove and install the new cable
I have 2013 GMC Sierra SLE. My door won't open from the inside or out. It started with the outside door handle, now the interior doesn't work either. Any help to get it open to replace handle? Thanks
Dude uhhhhh........he didn't reconnect the cable to the handle. That part where he gets it back together and starts cussing up a fit would have been very entertaining.
I popped my panel halfway off just enough to get my arm down in there. I grabbed the cable and the door handle from the inside at the same time over and over and luckily it popped open somehow. After that it started opening from the outside only.
anyone have any tips on how to get the door open to do this? The cable on my 08 silverado is completely shredded and I have no way of opening the driver side door.
perfect.. my passenger door finally locked itself.. both inside and outside handles cant open the truck .. Need a solution on how to top the door... 2010 model. ofcourse silverado 4 door LS
Happened to me when sorting the passenger side for the 5th time. Was able to lift and separate the inside panel from the top and reach between and manually pull cable. Hope it helps u out.
Well I guess the mystery lives on with why the ball won't stay in the socket at inside door handle release. Now I get to take all of my seats out to get the door panel off. Thanks for nothing and giving me a bunch of extra work so I don't destroy my door panel. Dorman sucks!!!!

My door wont open from the inside or outside, how can that be fixed?
Attaching the cable end/ball to the door handle on the door panel would have helped a whole bunch. That 'step' can be very challenging!
Here’s a tip to save you a bunch of time! Don’t take the whole latch out of the door and disconnect the rods. Just unscrew the latch and pull it back just enough to disconnect and connect the cables.
I was messing around with that yellow clip on the rod for so long. Your comment saved me so much time. Thank you
Thanks for your reply, I was just wondering if I actually had to do all of that but now I know I don't.
You are completely right, I just did it and it took about 30 seconds to remove and replace the latch end of the cable once it was unbolted.
Dude I owe you a drink
I tried your way, and i did the entire fix in less than 20 mins

I just did this today and this guy is correct. The latch assembly swings far enough forward to swap out the cables easily without touching those rods.
Thanks for the tip. Also thanks to the original video.
Yep.
Just replaced mine thanks to this video. I really appreciate your help 👍

Thank you man you save me a lot of trouble !! the video is very clear and very very helpfull ! from Montreal Canada !
Muy buen video sin dejar dudas y muy bien la explicación y los pasos a seguir 👍
This video made my job of changing cable so much easier. Thanks so much
Yep! Would have been a complete video if he had re-atteched cable to door handle between 16:00 and 17:00

My cable snapped.
I took mine apart and the cable was broken by the inside door handle
I got lost, at what time did he connect the cable to the handle?

How can the door be opened when the cable is disconnected
Is this the same cable as for a door with power door locks? Or do you have the cable for doors with power locks? pretty sure they are different. thanks.
If you're worried about those rods on the latch I just did this without removing them just had to reach in behind the door.
That worked great for me too and saved time.
This works on a 2012 silverado?
What size cable do you need for the back door?
What size cable do I need for the auto lock doors on 2012?
man you guys didn't mention on the lt silverado theres an extra rod and im now having to figure out how to disconnect myself. thanks.
Can you take the window crank off without that fancy smancy tool??
Does anyone know if this works on power door locks? The a1website does not have an option for powered door latch cable.
Is it just me or did he not connect the cable to the interior door handle?
If he did, he didn't show that step.
wesley lokey same reason I was watching the video lol
I was thinking the same thing...he did not
No he did
I didn't rewatch, it's possible, we've all done stupid crap like that before. Lol
I have a 2011 work truck but my door handle sits above the window crank. Do you know what part number that is?
my gmc has power door locks. will this cable work since it states (manual lock) in the description?
I have the same. I think it's a longer cable.
I dont have power locks. Mine is manual, but my inner latch isnt opening my door. It works from outside but not the inside

it'd be perfect if the camera was on a tripod. too much movement from the hand held camera
It's fuckin nice when previous owner,s just throw the fuckin insulation pad away and no one makes it anymore fuckin lovely
He never hooks the handle back up
Well, I just wasted 20 minutes.
You never showed how to put the cable back on the latch.
That's what I needed to know.
window handle removal? Oh wait there is a special clip and a way to remove it?
All chevy's have the same tool all the way back from 1965 or so.
This looks so difficult. My driver side won’t open from inside or out. To repair it at the dealership is too expensive...where can I order this part?
