Thank you so much for sharing this. I just used my little E string right through the holes in the threading at the end of the shaft to evenly pull the plug right back through my guitar. That gave it just enough stiffness to pull it directly through. Mine has a very small sound hole and even though my arm is not that big, it was too much of a reach but this made it a breeze.

Wow, this saved my life. The jack was the reason why my amplifier made static noise.
    Now everything is fine.

Thank you for the great tutorial. Tip for those struggling to get the jack back in place: use a chopstick through the hole to guide it. Other tools such as a long screwdriver will work as well, but the chopstick, being wooden, will minimize the chances of collateral damage.

What works really well if your hands are to big to reach, is a pencil with an eraser on the end. Just reach in as far as you can and push the jack onto the eraser end of the pencil that you have put in the whole. It work incredibly well.

Great video! Fixes the problem...until next time. And the next, and the next, and the next. Why not design a different endpin if you know this is a problem? This video is 8 years old, so you know it's a problem. I have a 900 OM CE, purchased new in 2019. I've had to do this procedure at least 3 times. I keep a Zager Soundhole Humidifier on the guitar at all times, so I have a hard time believing the humidity fluctuates all that much. I take the strap off each time I put it in the case, so I don't have the strap twirling on the endpin and working it loose. I haven't had this problem on either of my other acoustic/electrics--both Taylors. If you keep your guitar's humidity constant, you really shouldn't have to keep dealing with this on a $2300 guitar.

A 1/4" X 12" wooden dowel from the hardware store works really nicely as well. You can put in right in the jack hole and then slip the hardware right over the dowel. Works great for multiple attempts to get the exposed threads just perfect.

Worked great, thanks! I found that the first piece that you need to take off was too tight. I needed to put pressure on the inner piece with a pair of needle nose pliers to get enough grip to undo the first nut.

Hi DZJr, easy way to get the cylinder back through the hole. First tie thin fishing line around a small bolt and push it through the hole into the body. Fish the bolt out of the body, remove the bolt. Feed the line through the little holes in the cylinder and tie a knot. Next, pull the line till the cylinder is through the hole. Finally, cut the line, replace washer and nut. Dun! Also, to prevent reoccurrence, I’ve added a drop of glue on the threads behind the inside nut.

My first thought is to plug in a guitar cable before pulling it out. Pull it out with the guitar cable. Plug it back in after you fix the nut and pull the cable back out the hole.

Thanks- I discovered a number 2 pencil works perfectly -screw the eraser into the inside threads and it holds it just enough to push into the body and grab- also can put the washer and bolt on over pencil :)

if you have a jumbo size or large guitar, someone with smaller arms won’t be able to reach the strap/jack hole thru the sound hole easily or at all. Use the 1/4” dowel and push through the hole and place the jack onto the dowel. Like Arizona stayed below, I usually use a1/4 dowel with one layer of electrical tape to make it tight and hold onto the jack as you bring it back through the strap/jack hole. Makes the job around 5 minutes.

Glad I found this video. I have this very problem with my guitar. After you adjust the position of the nut on the inside of the guitar, why not apply some LockTight so that nut won’t move again?
    Thanks

What kind of wrench was the small flat one and what size? My 1/4 jack on my epiphone acoustic is super loose. I noticed I didn’t have a washer either on the guitar. Just the nut and the other screw on piece. Will that make a difference ?

great video - thanks for saving me some dollars - I was all set to bring my guitar to a repair center until I saw this - I took my time with it - I first grab all the correct tools and a few extra so if I needed them I would have them available. I followed your instructions nice and slowly, stopping it until I finished each part - total time it took start to finish - gathering tools until tools were put away - maybe about 10 to 13 minutes and the repair turned out perfect. thank you - just 1 question for ya, so this does not happen again - would it be alright to put a drop of super glue on it or would this be harmful to the wood for humid and non-humid days when the wood expands and shrinks some??

Piece of dowel makes it really easy. You don't have to loosen the strings either!

Wouldn't it just be a lot easier to put a string or piece of fishing line through the tiny hole at the top so that you just pull it back through once you tightened the end nut?
