Ren is a big advocate for mental health too, not just in his music but also in real life. He worked with a friend of mine in collaboration with the BBC in the uk for a charity called MIND. Great entertainment dude, i love your honesty. I suffer from depression, i was a transport manager and told my boss not to send a women out on my day off as she had worked too much. The morning i got back, i had a call from the Dutch police telling me she had fallen asleep at the wheel, crashed and died. Her family came in to see me fo tell me they didn't blame me, as i didnt send her and they'd heard i was having a hard time copeing, but it still follows me like a shadow.
You start to learn what affects you, you start to get wise to what triggers you and you avoid anything that can trigger you. It is a blessing to know and understand what is causing you pain,

As a person who also has a mother who suffers from various mental illnesses it took me a long long time to see how it inadvertently affected me in many facets of life. Managing that while maintaining compassion isn’t always easy, deciding to become an advocate for these matters surely isn’t easy either. This is only the third video of yours I’ve watched but now that you have decided this is your course of action the bravado is clear and I’m so happy for you and what this will do to help others.

@@rw9019 yeah, I think it was the same. Especially after finding Black Pegasus next. The echo chamber on here can be too much. I have to go out of my way to find other things I was watching or am interested in. 🙃 but I am never mad, every morning is atleast 1 new reaction to Ren. Great way to start the morning routine. 🌄 But at this point, sometimes I forget how it was hard to understand him at first being American and have heard so many interpretations including coming up with my own I feel like it slaps in the face... but only if you get the references. For example Ren definitely knows so many more artists and without others I never would've understood as many as I do now. So, I just recommend sending to someone else instead of trying to piece together a 1000+ comments with 1000+ ideas and who has, and is greatly ideally trusted, insights that'll open it way up for them. 🙏🏼 🤲🏻

Way back when I first started listening to Eminem I would have to pull out the dictionary to understand some of the words 😅. Keep going and ignore the hateful comments. Loved your very honest reaction. I think you have to listen to it like it's poetry. But as you say, we want to know what all the words are, and figure out what it all means. Sometimes Ren puts as many as three or four rhyming words in a single bar. He references about a gazillion different things (some of them literary, political, a lot of double meanings, etc.) and almost nobody is going to get it all on the first (second? third?) time listening. I'm a retired clinical social worker. I appreciate that you want your channel to inspire and help people with their mental health. That is definitely part of Ren's mission. He's been there done that, and wants to share what he's learned, about his journey with mental illness, unrelenting physical pain, being misdiagnosed, and how his values have deepened because of it. That's why he says "living with depression is a blessing in disguise." When he reached 1,000,000 viewers last summer (?), he posted a very moving and profound statement about all this, that's called "Success" ... well worth searching for and watching. ~ Peace

❤ I promise you know the meaning of those words even if you don't know their definitions and they're not familiar to you. For me "depression is a blessing in disguise" also means we can learn a lot about ourselves and the world around us in that state of mind even if it's only the kind of person don't want to be but also of the kind of person we do want to be. True of most of our experiences actually. I often say I wouldn't change a thing about my past because it made me who I am and I like who I am and paid what felt like hell at times to get here.

I'm also a mental health advocate due to mine and my families mental health. I volunteer with 2 mental health organizations, AFSP, and NAMI. It's actually a lot easier to get started with organizations like this than you may think. The books you recommend are amazing. I have a lot of reading to do lol. Keep doing what you're doing, and lmk if you have any questions about volunteering. It's a great way to do research as well through training for all of the mental health conditions, and it's really awarding too. Just subbed 😊🖤

The crucify a catholic line I think refers to the fact that the Catholic church banned certain dissonant chords calling them the devil’s chords. Ren uses some of these chords for example in Hi Ren.

Hi, just to say that your reactions are appreciated and that you can listen to Ren's work many times and still not pick up on everything he says, or implies. I agree with the conclusion you came to about "Depression being a blessing in disguise". That when you have been through something, in this case depression, you can understand, connect with and even help others who are suffering from it. A term sometimes used is 'Wounded healers'. Also sometimes Ren uses phrases used in the U.k. that are not so obvious to an Americans ear.👍

There's plenty to appreciate beyond these moments.

You have depression and you want to help others. 'Depression is a blessing in disguise'. If you dont know anything about it, theres nothing you can do. You have a good soul and you want to help others. It's also better to look at it that way and make it a positive, not a negative. Making it a negative will never help.
I have Borderline Personality Disorder and have made the decision not to have children. At least until I have more control over my own brain and have understanding of where my illness comes from and work through my trauma before having a child involved. My mum and dad fucked me up mentally and I couldn't do that to a child. When I am ready for children I would rather adopt and help the children that are already in this world and help them through their trauma and mental health.
Fwiw, I have one biological child and an adopted one, and I would say that either way you have to deal with each kid's issues individually (both genetic and environmental) and deal with any trauma your own issues cause them as well.
@@ashebanow oh yeah completely but I'm not having my own mental illness and other health problems passed onto a biological child. My partner also has genetic disabilities that we wouldn't wish upon anyone so biological is out the window all together. Any child you have will have some form of trauma caused by parents, even if it's just a bad way of viewing something you are guaranteed to fuck up your kids in some manor😂 I want to be able to have the resources to help work through any issues and if I can't do that for myself then I wouldn't involve a child, especially not a child with trauma already. I know it will take time and in order for me to be ready for a child I need to be able to put aside my own feelings/issies/trauma for the sake of the child and I'm not at that stage yet. Only been in therapy for 5 weeks so fingers crossed🤞🏼☺️

I understand how your family member's illness effects on you too, I suffer from severe depression and that depression made me a very angry and aggressive, Jeez, everybody I knew was afraid of me, even parents and brother.. Luckily I'm older now and my aggression has passed mostly, but people do remember, and still avoid my company..

Loved your very honest reaction. I think you have to listen to it like it's poetry. But as you say, we want to know what all the words are, and figure out what it all means. Sometimes Ren puts as many as three or four rhyming words in a single bar. He references about a gazillion different things (some of them literary, political, a lot of double meanings, etc.) and almost nobody is going to get it all on the first (second? third?) time listening.
I'm a retired clinical social worker. I appreciate that you want your channel to inspire and help people with their mental health. That is definitely part of Ren's mission. He's been there done that, and wants to share what he's learned, about his journey with mental illness, unrelenting physical pain, being misdiagnosed, and how his values have deepened because of it. That's why he says "living with depression is a blessing in disguise."
When he reached 1,000,000 viewers last summer (?), he posted a very moving and profound statement about all this, that's called "Success" ... well worth searching for and watching. ~ Peace

For me "depression is a blessing in disguise" also means we can learn a lot about ourselves and the world around us in that state of mind even if it's only the kind of person don't want to be but also of the kind of person we do want to be. True of most of our experiences actually.
I often say I wouldn't change a thing about my past because it made me who I am and I like who I am and paid what felt like hell at times to get here.

I just found you, and love your message and reactions! I love the way that you want to know all the lyrics, that's really admirable. I'm also a mental health advocate due to mine and my families mental health. I volunteer with 2 mental health organizations, AFSP, and NAMI. It's actually a lot easier to get started with organizations like this than you may think. The books you recommend are amazing. I have a lot of reading to do lol. Keep doing what you're doing, and lmk if you have any questions about volunteering. It's a great way to do research as well through training for all of the mental health conditions, and it's really awarding too. Just subbed 😊🖤

The crucify a catholic line I think refers to the fact that the Catholic church banned certain dissonant chords calling them the devil’s chords. Ren uses some of these chords for example in Hi Ren.

That when you have been through something, in this case depression, you can understand, connect with and even help others who are suffering from it. A term sometimes used is 'Wounded healers'. Also sometimes Ren uses phrases used in the U.k. that are not so obvious to an Americans ear.👍

If the listener is younger than Ren (like yourself), then familiarity with the pop culture subject matter probably isn't going to be there. Everyone is naturally going to be best versed in cultural trivia that occurred during their own relevant lifetime. Don't sweat it if you don't really catch the references on first listen. There's plenty to appreciate beyond these moments.

You have depression and you want to help others. 'Depression is a blessing in disguise'. If you dont know anything about it, theres nothing you can do. You have a good soul and you want to help others. It's also better to look at it that way and make it a positive, not a negative. Making it a negative will never help.
I have Borderline Personality Disorder and have made the decision not to have children. At least until I have more control over my own brain and have understanding of where my illness comes from and work through my trauma before having a child involved.
My mum and dad fucked me up mentally and I couldn't do that to a child. When I am ready for children I would rather adopt and help the children that are already in this world and help them through their trauma and mental health.
Fwiw, I have one biological child and an adopted one, and I would say that either way you have to deal with each kid's issues individually (both genetic and environmental) and deal with any trauma your own issues cause them as well.
@@ashebanow oh yeah completely but I'm not having my own mental illness and other health problems passed onto a biological child. My partner also has genetic disabilities that we wouldn't wish upon anyone so biological is out the window all together.
Any child you have will have some form of trauma caused by parents, even if it's just a bad way of viewing something you are guaranteed to fuck up your kids in some manor😂
I want to be able to have the resources to help work through any issues and if I can't do that for myself then I wouldn't involve a child, especially not a child with trauma already.
I know it will take time and in order for me to be ready for a child I need to be able to put aside my own feelings/issies/trauma for the sake of the child and I'm not at that stage yet. Only been in therapy for 5 weeks so fingers crossed🤞🏼☺️

I understand how your family member's illness effects on you too, I suffer from severe depression and that depression made me a very angry and aggressive, Jeez, everybody I knew was afraid of me, even parents and brother.. Luckily I'm older now and my aggression has passed mostly, but people do remember, and still avoid my company..
