My husband and I also only moved out of our parents' houses for marriage. Granted while we were engaged, we bought a house (closer to the wedding - 3 months to be exact), but neither of us moved in or had our things/items there till we got back from the wedding whatwhats. He went there to pray every now and again, so the energy in the house was right for once we moved in.
The biggest ADVANTAGE for me: Exactly what you said, it was a thrill, it was a physical and tangible different between dating and marriage. I saw him in the morning first thing for the first time etc.
The biggest DISADVANTAGE : Neither of us had any kind of furniture, so we started on ground zero. Whereas, had we moved out before that, we wouldn't have an immediate empty house.
But because I just find a silver lining in everything, we didn't have to blend two different furniture styles I guess 😅🤷🏻♀️.
Lol...🥰 It’s actually better to start a fresh with each other and discover a way forward. Building a home together is such a blessing and it’s memories that you two will cherish forever 😍👫🏽♥️🏡

Thank you for sharing something that is considered now considered “outdated”. My husband and I also never lived together till we got married and it was based on respect for our God, ourselves and our families. One of the best decisions we made in our relationship.

I'm 20 and I moved out of home at 18 (for Varsity) I'm not planning on moving in with anyone's son until I'm married which kinda worries me sometimes because I'm sooo set on my own way on living! 😂😂 It even becomes a problem when I go home for school holidays 🤦♀️
Same age now that I'm about to finish my degree ngase ndsebenze ngk and have my own place

I live with my parents and my fiance lives alone. Vat n sit was not a decision we would take because we didn't want to be wrong examples to the young people we leading at church.
I just can't wait for us to officially be married after this lockdown and live together. I'm sure we will meet those roller-coasters but they worth it.

Besides what I have been told and African traditions, I made the decision to rather live alone or with my parents until marriage, I feel you can see how the person is via visits. Society now says it's good idea to know your partner to some extent by living with then before marriage what do you think?

Vat and set is the worst thing u can ever do to urself. I did it, I had reasons but I still wish I never did it.
This is good to hear, society says it's a need so you know for sure who you marrying, what do you think of that saying?

But as soon as we got married, is then that I began to know my husband, when he started to act n do things like One, without questioning it.
There are things that ul never know about a person until u are married n that's just that. No need to vat n sit.

I moved out of home at 17 to go to uni (where I lived alone because I'm also an independent first born lol) and going home for vac wasn't an issue because I maintained the standards I was taught growing up.
At 22, I'm still living alone (abroad) and I'm worried that someone's son will have a tough time with me one day cause I really like my space and I'm so set in my ways 🙈

Anyway, I love, I love old school love. I'd also like to mention that I'm 22😂. But I feel waiting is best way to do it, it's so rare to find girls and boys that would prefer to stay at home, everyone wants to go and rent and for most of them it's for wrong reasons. Wanting freedom to bring over whomever you want, you know to do the things. Not that it's a terrible thing but there are so many principles lost in this "freedom" we are seeking.
Dise please teach these young men how things are done 😑

I've done the vat n sit thing and I ended having to take care of everything and the guy would literally do nothing. unless he was wrong or did something wrong. I wish I never did it thought coz it took a lot to adjust to living alone again after the break up

Parents at times wish their kids marriage mar ere fela "katla bae o kamontle..." you are considered disrespectful or even denied permission at times (due to having strict parents, This happened a lot to my cousin when we were growing up, our Mamogolo was heish soo anti boys😅)
How does one balance respecting folks still staying at home and on the same breath being allowed to date and i guess avoiding telling lies whenever wanting to visit their boyfriends or even girlfriend? ..
Most of my female friends speak of being soo scared of having the 'adult' conversation with their parents about boys, i guess this is how some people end up in vat n sit situations whenever they move of home for varsity or whatever reason.. We need to normalise these convos with our families stru!
