I loved the ending, but I think a lot of people were upset that Gi-hun didn't go to see his daughter. Many people wanted him to go see his daughter instead of going back to try and stop the games. To me, it made more sense to end this the way they did. His daughter is safe for the time being,, she's with her mother and step-dad. And she will still be there after Gi-hun is done. Also, they are clearly watching Gi-hun, so who's to say they wouldn't be watching his daughter, too, if he went back to her. Also, the red hair is supposed to symbolize Gi-hun's rage over what happened in the games. It also represents that he will never be able to go back to his old self. This is all according to the creator.
1:00:34 her staying alive until she was done-in by Sang-woo was important to the story in two ways: 1) Establishing Sang-woo as undoubtedly being the antagonist and 2) Giving Gi-hun enough motivation to fight Sang-woo to the end instead of sacrificing himself.
I liked the ending. And as for the old man, I'm sure there were there are a lot of clues that he wouldnt have died in the other games but the biggest one, and the only one I caught is in Tug of War. If you look closely after that team wins, the old man isn't shackled to the rope like everyone else. So either way the game went, he wasnt gonna go down.
The first game if you rewatch all the characters when it shows motion detector scenes have green tracker rings around them except 001 (he wasn't being tracked wouldn't have died)... the sugar game he knew which to pick (wouldn't have died), tug of war not cuffed and they picked one of the weaker teams along with his strategy (wouldn't have died), the marble game he made it where he could basically give up and make it where 456 lived "to keep it fair" and he was out...
both guys kinda started doing their own thing started slowing down streaming n such. Mainly to focus on their jobs and thankfully both are succeeding in their own fields, but i really do miss the community.

I have a few friends who didn't like the ending, but I thought it was amazing overall. JUST for the fact that we got the last game in the first fifteen minutes and then spent the rest of the episode dealing with the aftermath was EXACTLY what was needed. I have quibbles, for sure - mainly the ridiculously cartoonish characterizations of the VIPs in both episodes 7 & 9 - and there are aspects of the finale that are done for dramatic effect rather than common sense (seriously - GiHun gives SangWoo's mom a suitcase full of cash on an open street? We already know he could just make a new account with a debit card...) But the "twist" and GiHun's decision at the end made perfect sense to me. Squid Game gets a 9.5/10 from me.
I wish the twist was revealed in the building. And the last game was just a fight. But I'm glad there was plenty on the aftermath and the twist was good. On the end I don't get why they would let him back if he says he wants to take them down.
@@starrynight1657 They game certainly won't re-enlist Gi-hun to play again - he simply called the number because he wanted to let them know he was going to do SOMETHING. Smart? Probably not, but definitely an understandable reaction. Also, a key thing to remember is that during production, Mr. Hwang Dong-Hyuk, the creator and writer, had no inkling that the show would be successful, or have a chance at a second series (the VAST majority of these Netflix K-dramas are one-and-done). How the final episode ended was simply a good stinger to leave the audience with. Only after the show blew up to such a huge hit did he have to start thinking about what would actually happen next.
