I think people are forgetting.... Next year (year 3) was supposed to be the year TxSU made noise. So...with that being said.... the fact that we(people) are saying that they got PV.. and it was even close with SU... means its a WIN for TxSU. they are ahead of schedule. Job well done.

Something I've noticed. TxSU has been doing these taunts all season. They did it with PVU at Labor Day classic when they played some of PV's Swamp during halftime. Good strategy to use the mind games on others. It's working for them. Not only that, I applaud TxSU for having the song list to rival SU. Not too many bands will have a good list this early in the season.
In related news, I've decided to get on the pen for PV. I plan to submit something in the next week or two. The first song is already around 20% done, and I have 2-3 others I need to work on. I'll give updates as they come. 🎼🎶
The video doesn't tell the story of this battle from the zero to the end of the 5th it was hot. When they played this game last year it was cooler I was at that game and this one. The Sun was on Southerns band so long they left the stands to cool off before the feild show. In this game the heat beat on both bands but Southern was in the Sun the whole game. I sat on TSU side for both games and right next to the band so I know they were a little fresher than Southern. It is hard to focus in that kind of heat. That started to show in the 5th. Both programs are awesome and I am so proud to see how far TSU has come in such a short period of time. Kudos to both bands Both bands did amazing

Win or lose, TxSU has officially made themselves know as a threat. Great rise! Southern did have an advantage TxSU didn't have. SU was playing under that second level stand. It acted as an amplifier on some songs
Trust and believe the only band benefits from that stadium is txSU because have this been in an open field SU clarity and power would have been unmatched the same point was proven from 2018 battle once they got outside
Only thing SU had as an advantage was numbers. Ocean plays at an intense sound everyday at practice so the amplifier doesn’t matter to us. Its just clear as day on who you can literally see holding off to hit certain parts in SU’s band to be honest thats why i couldn’t personally understand how they got tired lol

You can deny the obvious all you want but prime example is Skin. Trumpets. Thats all i got to say. If you somehow still disagree with this lol then idk what to tell you. Its not about criticism either. Its just pointing the obvious advantage out. Once brian and his staff get those same or more numbers, then you’ll see how much folks change up. I agreed with your critiques. It was an ok battle and being in the stadium I actually started to get a little bored about half way thru the battle. There were clear performance issues on both sides and I hope both bands clean things up soon. The heat could have been a factor as well as being an early season game. As far as trumpets….I feel it’s a must that bands/band fans start to address the instrumentation makeup. So much lower brass and not enough trumpets is the main issue and has been for several years. They are getting drowned out and it’s that simple.

It's good to be jumping all over the field in the band instructor of housing and screaming but at the end of the day Southern is still sitting on top of the mountain even though no bands are totally perfect but Southern is still a band you have to show up and show out on really and who that
I was there live and I gave Txsu the W! To me they were more balanced (except for maybe woodwinds), had better articulation, had less mistakes and overall better arrangements/book. When I say txsu sounded more balanced, I mean I barely heard SU upper brass on 80% of their songs.
In person Southern did sound a little bit louder depending on the song, but that was mostly with the lower brass.
Txsu upper brass killed SU upper brass especially mellos. Txsu had 20-23 trumpets and they were way more heard than SU’s 40+ trumpets despite a few mishaps by both trumpet sections.
Southern band was great as usual. Texas Southern band has improved tremendously. Hats off to Brian Simmons and staff. the arrangements are fantastic. Southern band had more power and volume, but they had twice the members. I like TSU sound and power for it's size. I feel like if TSU had about 15 to 20 more trumpets, the trumpet parts of their arrangements would be super outstanding. I love the new ocean sound. Great job both bands.

Southern couldn't lose, in more ways than one. Of course they sounded fabulous. And since Brian Simmons attended SU, was in the SU band, and was an assistant band director at SU, then Southern still wins. The same goes for Danielle with the dancers.

I almost DM’d you to tell you not to react to this cuz I felt like both bands was tired from the jump and they wasn’t gon sound good, from what I watched on Rogers Bros. But SU was not good to me this battle. Their trumpets were out of character in a lot of parts in this battle. TxSU could’ve been a lot better too.

Being There In Person And Watching The Video Didn’t Do No Justice To How Both Bands Sounded In Person. Both Trumpets Got Tired And Both Was Hitting And Missing Notes But In All I Gave It A Tie!
I wasn't feeling the start of "I Wanna Be Down" and it was up and down during the song, but it had a few good spots. It certainly wasn't one of the better versions I've heard. I got Southern 7-2-3 or maybe 6-4-2, but I feel like I'm giving TxSU a round just because they played MJ
Need more thunder from SU base drums. Our base drums almost sound like tenor drums.
They gotta get away from those black dots. Skins give that deep tone up close and from a far.
When you listen to su version of back end at jsu the basses and tenors kinda sound alike I couldn’t tell who’s part from who

Yo I feel like Brian definitely came some uppercuts and haymakers!!! I think SU was expecting a battle but bro this was definitely the battle of Gettysburg so far!!! Like I really think TxSU has come a long way and truly sound great. They did a great job at testing SU. I think SU played some power and busy chorded songs late and didn't have the energy to execute them which gave TxSU some advantages. I expect SU to be in lab executing like crazy!!! Brian is the sleeper/scare of the SWAC. With that being said SU still the giant!!

I'm not sure about Southern this year . They still sound good for sure but their arrangements aren't hitting as hard as they usually do and they don't sound as clear and crisp as they usually do in my opinion. I feel as though Southern is more vulnerable this year then in most years in the past as more bands such as Texas Southern step up their game. The Southern Jackson duopoly on the SWAC may be loosening 🤷🏾♂️
