After watching this a 2nd time I still give this to Memphis. They had a better selection and musicality. GAMB had a cleaner sound but most of the arrangements weren't challenging. I think GA was on an out power mission. In the end they were out finessed and given the size difference, MMB wasn't as far off with power as you think. i guess GAMB has more hs students this season, but I think they have some horn holders. Wity their style of play I think they should top out at 300 and that's being generous more like 250. Anything beyond that and music becomes muddy and balance becomes hell with their style. Trumpets were nowhere to be found and Mellos had moments like that too. I hope GA takes this L and does some labwork for NOASB. They took MMB lightly and got exposed for it
If you are judging off of arrangements then Memphis by a landslide
Energy, arrangement, performance... OVERALL Memphis put on a better performance. Both bands need to clean it up FRFR

I dont think ive ever seen KB give a band 3 or more deductions and they still won the battle. Memphis made this harder than it had to be but still won. Coulda been a blowout.
Bruh I literally watched this entire battle and just realized it was held at McDonough High School (The Warhawks) where I graduated in '07 as 1st trumpet. Great battle and great commentary. Memphis straight brought that HEAT!

At first I thought he was being biased against Memphis. Yes they made a couple mistakes but at the end you did say it could have easily been a clean sweep by Memphis...but everybody knows Memphis came and slapped!!!

Powerful stand battle. That first song that Memphis played by Cameo entitled Tribute to Bob Marley was fire. It set the bar high. A lot of brass but that woodwind highlight was unexpected. Georgi will not underestimate an opponent. Memphis was the truth in this battle. Their arrangements fit their instrumentation. The percussion blended and thumped well.
Last year gamb was more balance too many people. Definitely need to cut their members. Mmb was more balanced for sure.🤷🏼♂️ Entertaining reaction as always kb. Glad u enjoyed Spain man keep it up👍🏼

I’m just happy to see the band is still alive in a time like this great jobs to both bands and my opinion both bands had the wrong song selections for their bands and they where playing like they where at practice like you said
GA sounds kind of empty on some songs, and at times they seem like they're just chilling. Then at times, it seems like they tried to go safe and simple because of the size. I didn't really love a song until round 5. Though 2 or 3 were good. Memphis just has a different mentality, and I don't just mean as far as band. I don't think this battle was even close. I had Memphis 6-1 or 5-1-1. GA finally showed something in round 7. I could go 5-2 if I was being generous. I wonder how crazy it would be if they did a Tennessee Mass band instead of just Memphis, and how GA gone move just to watch? IF a SWAC band moved like that, there would have been some face-to-face cranking. People trying to give GA a pass saying they have a better sound, but if you're bigger, simpler, and more conservative your sound should be good. Better is very subjective.

Better sound: GAMB
The musicality difference between the two is close to auto dub for Memphis. You giving GAMB too much of a pass bro. That third round should have went to MMB. GA responded with whole notes to Janelle Lipstick Lover. That sound had power, musicality. Execution could have been better but you gave them a L on a drum fill at the end come one my G

The Marvin Gaye tune would have been better if the whole notes were held out for the full value. That is why the sound had gaps in it. Also, the tubas could have kept some of the original bass lines to help with the tempo when the drum line laid out. That song has mass potential.
Slow tunes are the hardest to play when you are trying to add power to it.

Memphis had great songs and power for their size...biggest difference they were not clean at all. Their trumpets are out of control even though they hitting the notes...it can ruin a great song by hanging over way too much. GAMB had weird song selections but they were clean and had one sounding band. If MMB can clean that up and get some discipline, they will take it.

I love how y'all moved the goalposts one year is about cranking next year's about arrangements execution etc. Anyway... Both bands did great. I think the whole all-star band world has a low-key jealousy towards Georgia as far as how fast the program progression the short period Of time. I could be wrong but I am speaking from The spectators prospective not the actual programs
