    Each piece of content I cover is like watching a movie without seeing the trailer first. I do not know the lore, this is completely new and I love it this way. Due to these reasons above, I mainly look at story structure and the piece of content as a whole but does it move me emotionally even though I don't know the characters or world? 40K has many great trailers. But also pretty much any trailer Bethesda or Ubisoft make are incredible, too, regardless of the games the represent. Their trailer making studios pretty much never miss.
      I'd say look at the For Honor trailers, especially the cinematic story trailer, Thin Red Path (the longer version, about 1 1/2 min) and the cinematic reveal trailer from the E3 2015.
      They're all rather short, so maybe you can make a whole video with all three of them.

      I have never played the game, but I have always enjoyed the Awaken 2019 and the Warriors 2020 Cinematics, both as music videos, but also because they tell their own story, although I think some other people suggested them as well, there's also the ANNIE: Origins story, they're all from League of Legends, of course there's also just straight up Arcane from Netflix based on League of Legends.

    The red wookie is Ornn, God of the Forge. The few scenes where he is making a sword is significant because Ornn hasn’t forged a weapons in over a thousand years. The making of a weapon is a sign that war is coming.
    The ice place is Freljord. The lady on the boar (Bristle) is Sejuani. She is leading her small group of warriors (including Olaf, the dude who head butt the ice) against the Ursine (the polar bear dudes). Sejuani is part of a much larger group, but they are scattered into many smaller groups to make survival easier (less mouths to feed logic). The Ursine are followers of a god named Volibear (The bear in the clouds). The Ursine are men who can transform into bears and use lightning because they worship Volibear. They stole a cauldron from Ornn that allows any mortal to go a year without food if they drink from it. (Ornn and Volibear are brothers, but they don’t like eachother). The Ursine stole the cauldron because Volibear believes it makes men weak. (Man needs to be fighting constantly to stay strong logic).
    The desert area is a region of Shurima. Taliyah (the earthbending lady) and Kai’sa (purple girl) have teamed up recently to fight the Xer’sai (small(er) tunneling monsters from the Void). The Xer’sai are children of the big creature, Rek’sai. In the end, Kai’sa sacrifices herself (not in a dying way but like a freedom way) by leading Rek’sai back to the void while Taliyah seals the tunnel. Taliyah is all about protecting people and Kai’sa is all about fighting void monsters. Kai’sa’s suit is actually a living creature that created a symbiotic relationship with Kai’sa (think venom). Kai’sa was a normal human girl, but she got trapped in the void at a young age and had to fight for survival while miraculously keeping her hair, skin, and makeup beautiful.
    The spartan is Pantheon but also has the human name Atreus. (I’m a bit iffy on this side of the lore). Pantheon is a man that was possessed/gained the power of the aspect of war, but the aspect of war died and gave Pantheon his humanity back (or something like that). He is climbing Mount Targon which is like a magical mountain that the celestials and aspects (basically gods) reside. Few mortals are able to reach the top of Mount Targon. Those that do are granted great power. (Reason pantheon god the power of the aspect of war.) The men he encounters by the portal are the solari. They are men who worship the sun. Pantheon drives his spear into the ground because he does not have any quarrel with humans. Pantheon hates the celestials and aspects which is why he is ascending the mountain to fight them. He beats the shit out of the men, but he doesn’t kill them because his fight is with the aspects. The gold lady, Leona appears from the portal to fight Pantheon. (The look he gives her is him being glad he’s finally found the opponent he’s been looking for). Leona is the aspect of the sun and leader of the solari. During the fight, Pantheon is blasted by a giant laser, which is theorized to be a falling star from a being named Aurelion Sol. He is a giant space that created the universe and likely the final boss opponent for Pantheon. The final bit of Pantheon’s part of the video, he is using his god powers to jump back to the top of the mountain which is his ultimate in the game where he can jump halfway across the map and come crashing down on his enemies.
    If there is anything I missed or got wrong I’m sure there will be replies correcting me.

      Thank you for the lore information! I enjoyed reading that. KZ

    • @Moehre040
      @Moehre040 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +27

      Werent Atreus and Leona good friends, so it wouldnt be just "finding a worthy opponent", but also finding an old friend (unless that was retconned,something that happened a lot with the older league lore).
      Also Aurelion Sol really got nothing to do with the aspects, because he too hates them. After all they trapped him and used him to increase their own power.

    • @2centschange
      @2centschange 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +76

      @@Moehre040 Sort of. To add more context to that story. Aurelion sol is a cosmic dragon that creates stars and solar system. The celestials of Targon basically sucked up to him when he visited their world and, as if worshipping him, offered him a crown which he accepted happily. Except the crown was a trap and bound his powers to targon (the mountain and the devine realm) which understandably ticked him off. Pantheon the god of war, was in charge of keeping him under control. Before he died though, he noticed that Sol was starting to break his bonds. He was then killed by Aatrox (not featured), but while the aspect died, the person, atreus, survived, maintaining some of that power. His going up targon here was basically to try and re-leash aurelion sol. However, the Solari (leona and her followers) think he doesn't belong there and because he has been open about disliking the aspects (because they take control of their human hosts), assumed he was coming to attack so they met him with force. A kind of a classic literary misunderstanding. Anyway, they get blasted by aurelion, which shouldn't be possible because of the crown, highlighting how weak their control has become, so it ends with him using his leap to go right to confront aurelion directly.
      Now, here's the fun part, that isn't obvious in the video. All of those stories are actually related, even though they take place in very different places and cover different things. The video was meant to highlight the upcoming confrontation with the void. The void is basically a realm of nothingness outside of our reality inhabited by the eldritch beings the watchers. They hate existance, and so when they became aware of the neighboring universe, they have decided to destroy it. Ornn crafting the sword (Which is actually the infinity edge, a powerful item in the game that's always been a mainstay but hasn't shown up in lore yet), because he senses the war with the void is going to start soon. Taliyah and Kai-sa are fighting rek'sai, who is one of the few void beasts to actually adapt and thrive in the league world of rune terra (and we learn in the next cinematic that her trip in that pit leads her to bel'veth, one of two 'intelligent' void beings that is actually going rogue and trying to create her own void realm on runeterra and pressgangs kai-sai to help her. Pantheon's confrontation with aurelion is tied to the fact that aurelion is the only being strong enough to actually seal the tears to the void and end the war.
      The most tenuous is sejuani's story, as its more location based than narrative. They're fighting at the entrance to the howling abyss. It's a massive glacial canyon. Era's passed the freljord was lead by three sisters. One was Sejuani's ancestor, one was Ashe's ancestor (the ice archer seen in other cinematics), and lissandra, the ice witch. Lissandra is still alive, and back then, she made a deal with the watchers to bring them to rune terra in return for power. Realizing she made a mistake once they arrived, she used her powers to trap them in the ice in the howling abyss. So, the idea for sejuani's story is their fighting so close to the howling abyss might weaken their prison.
      It was all supposed to play up into a big in game event! Except there was some changes within the companies, some people left, the lore team was restructured and ultimate the entire thing got forgotten in the shake up. Not to say something won't come of it later, but yeah, it was a real shame.

    • @2centschange
      @2centschange 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +65

      I'll add one thing, as its just a fun bit of story telling. The bigger freljordian with the horned helmet is named Olaf. He's your mythical vyking stereotype. His story is that he was given a prophecy by a wise woman that he would die peacefully in his sleep of old age, which to his religion is basically the worst fate. So he travels the world fighting every major threat he can, and will never stop fighting, functionally making him immortal.

    • @2centschange
      @2centschange 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +36

      All this to say that league's lore is dense and expansive, and they do an amazing job of being able to tell and convey parts of them in these cinematics in a way that rewards the people that read the lore but doesn't punish those that don't. They always manage to tell concise stories that play to the larger narrative but are entirely digestible as is. Which honestly serves the purpose of enticing those that find the characters cool in this to look into the greater lore of them.

    This cinematic is so crazily lore crafted because of Panth in my opinion because hes SUCH A CHAD!! In "The Call" Atreus, Pantheon is Ascending mount Targon. The roughest mountain in all the realm which is burdened by bad weather and other obstacles. He does this as a normal human being. Something that is almost impossible to other mortal men. He fights the guards at the top of the mountain barehanded because they are just normal mortal men like him who are being manipulated by the gods which he has beef with plainly because of this. Fights Leona the Aspect or "God" of the Sun with his spear and stands his ground as a man. And takes a comet face and shield first As a man. And finally falls off the mountain only to rise again as a Man. Only when he looks upon a broken battlefield of men from his faction and the faction of Aspects does he regain the will to fight once more using the powers of a Dead god does he ascend to the heavens to challenge the gods again. Like dayum bro

    Just a little background and lore information for your awesome reaction and breakdown for the call.
    The "cat" like creature, or better the aries like character is Ornn, a primal God of the land Freljord (Icy region), god of crafting and smithing. Seeing him crafting a weapon is a big thing storywise, cause he had sworn to never again do any weapons. Well they where way to powerfull so he is usual focused on other things, like a cauldron that directly connects to the first big scene. U see Sejuany riding her boar Brislte leading a raidparty of the winterclaw clan. In the background u see the warrior Olaf, big boy with 2 axes, big guy, grunting viking u know? ;D Anyway since the Freljord is a very harsh place the winterclaw is raiding for supplys and for survival. This party, lead by Sejuani is hunting the cauldron of Ornn, which is said to feed you for a entire year if u eat from it. It got stolen from the Ursine in the name of the Volibear, that is Ornns brother and another god of the Freljord. It is said that Freljord was formed by his claws and the landside u see in the shots, well, his claws did that. Many people mistook the Bear Person u see with Volibear, what is wrong those are wild shamans that took the form of the god they worship. The moment where u can actually see Volibears silhouete is in the clouds when the call on to Volibears power of the storm. That it about the first scene.
    The Second scene is in the desert of Shurima and u observe Kaisa (Dhe slim lady in the fency exo suit shooting purple beams from her hands (Sad and truly scary background story!) and Taliyah, a mage who can bend the earth. They approach a desolated city after looking for, some lost people, i would presume they are dead and got killed by the creature attacking the girls. Thoe are the children of Rek`Sai, that is the giant behemoth coming out of the ground later which Kai Sa decides to lure back under the earth to fight her. Kinda the short explanation but it will do for scene 2.
    Scene 3 is Pantheon climbing mount Targon. Well actually it is Atrius, a vessel to the god Pantheon (Who got murdered but thats another story) but lost the majority of his godly powers. Why is he climbing hte mountain? As far as i know, unkown, but what i know is he is reaching a portal of the Solari Tribe that would lead him to the top. He is placing his weapon in the ground as sign that he dont wants to hurt anyone there but the SOlari attack him and he, yeah slaps some faces. But then Leona arrives and she is another God and both start fighting each other. Actual Atrius hates the other Gods, or better aspects (Pantheon is the aspect of war, Leona the aspect of the sun and so on.) Anyway in the fight u might if u watch both closely when they are stuck at each other that Atrius sees something coming from behind Leona, she seems to be surpized, watch her reaction when he breaks the eyecontact between the two. Anyway this should be a attack of another chracter, not shown in the cinematic but namely, Aurelion Sol, a creator of Stars, a Dragon and the most godly being in the entire champion section in the game till today. He is a prisoner and bound by the aspects on the top of Targon, but since Pantheon is dead the leash that holds him isnt that tight anymore and this seems like a breakfree. So he blasts Atrius away down onto earth where u see weapons from basicly any possible region of the world, belonging to the warriors who tried to climb the mountain but failed. Pantheon gatheres his powers and jumps straight into the sky but not at the Mauntain as one would thought, more like directly onto the stars, another indicator for Aurelion Sol on my eyes.
    Shush, wall of text, anyway hope u enjoyed it with a little information about what the hell is going on there. Continue the journey with the rest of the cinematics and dont forget skin trailers, like star guardians and project beside champion teasers, trailers and the other great cinematics Riot made.

      @@kaizammit None of the characters here were, though I think ornn had an easter egg kind of reference in the pawn shop. The freljord was shown though, as its where jayce and his mother were as a kid before being saved by ryze. One cinematic you can watch if you want a bit of a backstory into arcane (and what heimerdinger was so worried about) is call of power.
      That being said, if you want to get a real sense of the total world of Runeterra where it all takes place, they did a series of cinematics for Wild rift, which is their mobile version which covers all the different regions (piltover and zaun feature jinx, echo and heimerdinger for example). They are all fairly short, but are little contained stories that really give you a feel for every area. They're called 'tales of runeterra'.

    As someone who plays the game the idea of Leona (the golden lady with the sword and shield) fighting a 1v1 fight against Pantheon (the spartan guy) is hilarious to me. She's a tanky support who locks opponents in place but deals practically no damage, while he's a bruiser/duelist who's specifically designed to jump on enemies and fight them to the death.
    In the mechanics of the actual game, he would absolutely demolish her, but lore-wise she's his equal in a direct conflict.

    Ever since I've first seen this cinematic and everyone else's reactions to it, I don't think anyone has ever drawn the connection that the weapons of each character was uniquely shown and highlighted. As many others have mentioned, the God is one of the forge, and never creates weapons except in times of great war. The storylines of each character show them looking for something; a cauldron to feed many, a monster causing panic, and a warrior's own personal reflective journey. Each of them are trying to find what they're looking for through the medium of battle, and with their weapons.
    I've been binging this channel, and I love how you both spend the time to talk about just how outright cool the cinematography is, and spend time to explain why it does, and why the creators chose key moments and devices.
    I can't wait to see more from you, maybe some more League of Legends in the future. Nice breakdown. The music obviously, but the compositions and shots are absolutely brilliant.
    When describing a League of Legends cinematics the only fitting word is epic. And the way they make every cinematic with a unique style is so good. Never get bored of these. "Rise", "Burn It All Down" and "Take over" are my personal favourites, but for story telling I would say "The curse of the Sad Mummy" and "As we fall" are probably more interesting.
    I wouldn't play the game, but the LoL cinematics are just on another level.

    I wish you understood the meaning behind every visual in the background too. For example the broken statue of Xolaani The Healer in the sandy mountain face. She Ascended to a higher lifeform in order to serve in the fight against those Void creatures. The statue was sundered in the civil war that broke out when she betrayed her people and tried to end all conflict in the world by enslaving everyone with blood magic. Thematicaly, Taliyah used the statue to bury the hole the Void Monster crawled out of.

    Yep, I have the same favourite moment in the cinematic as you: Kai'sa's (purple chick) look as she resolves to lead the big monster-demon away from the surface world by jumping into the chasm.
    Like some of the others have done, I very much recommend that you watch the Awaken and Warriors cinematics for League of Legends as well. They use the same style of having three stories happening at once. Also, Warriors features a couple of characters that you will know from Arcane :)

      @ZeroAlignment 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kaizammit Yeah, covering both vids in one review could be really good, would be a nice double whammy :)
      The Guyver thing is new to me, but I know Warframe (opening cinematic is brilliant), and yeah the armours in it are great, they really stand out from the typical future-fantasy ones, and the bio-look of them is definitely similar to Kai'sa's armour.
