    yep, you are right about the two in the steampunky section being Vi(olet) and Caitlyn from Arcane - altho half a decade or so earlier than the series
    the giant golem at the end is Galio, made to hunt sources of magic, hence why the giant beam called him in. the mage, Lux, has a story of hiding her powers because her country heavily prosecutes mages
    and the third scene with the void creatures is Kaisa again, same character as in The Call, together with Ezreal who is basically magic Indiana Jones
    Kaisa can be cocky because she's competent, Ezreal is cocky because he's lucky
    the song is also a redone version of a song Riot made together with Imagine Dragons in 2013 or so

    I adore the way Riot syncs everything to the music, they just do it so well. You can really tell that their music department is a core part of the cinematic and not an afterthought like it often can be.
    There are a lot of easter eggs in all of these cinematics that refer to the character's stories, their combat moves being abilities they have in game etc. which makes it a lot more impactful to people who already play the game which I really like, it ties the cinematic into the league of legends universe really nicely.

    • @Ower8x
      @Ower8x หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Since this is likely post Mageseeker lorewise its not as brave as we originally assumed when this came out... because of the changes that happened in Demacia because of the story ....

    While you were breaking down the first scene, I saw Lux (the blonde girl) show a range of emotion in such a short time that felt natural. Her facial expressions are worried at first to see if her brother (Garen) made it back. She has that glimmer of excitement when she sees him and approaches him just to have it taken away in an instant with the rock/ice about to break open the gates.

    Awesome video! I usually catch something I hadn’t before when you start going through the big moments frame by frame. Galio (giant statue dude) absorbs magic the same as Sylas (chain bro). When Galio is coming into the scene and we get the top down shot of Sylas, the ethereal magic sword he is holding (stolen from Garen’s magic sword earlier in the fight) disappears as it is probably getting absorbed by Galio. Or maybe Sylas just shit his pants because Lux has no problem floating and lighting up that staff immediately after 🤷‍♂️. You should check out the Rise video they did for the 2018 world championship. It was made by the same studio that did Arcane.

    I would really love to watch your breakdown on the League of Legends "Rise" cinematic. The camera movement and the light hits different than the "average" LoL cinematic. Also the main character has a different evolution arc and I would love to hear your opinion on that as well.

  • @kal2489
    @kal2489 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    I think my favourite part of this cinematic that isn't obvious unless you know some of the lore is that Lux, the blonde girl from the first set, is in hiding. That culture is particularly hateful of people with magic, in large part because of the antagonist of that shot, and the two have a lot of history. So Luxs decision to reveal her power for the good of the people had real consequences for the character.
    I addition, Ezreal, the treasure hunter from scene 3,is wildly in love with Lux. She, however, doesn't know Ezreal exists. XD

  • @thomasklinge7691
    @thomasklinge7691 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Yes that is VI (Violet) and Caitlyn from Arcane, there's also a music video of Jinx out there from when she got released. That's before Arcane was even thought of though so keep in mind the character seen in that video might not be how Arcane Jinx ends up.
    For the comparison I wonder what you would think about the promotional videos/teasers they make when they release new characters for the game. What you've watched until now are mostly season promotions. But the character teasers end up being of a similar quality to the ones you've watched but entirely focused on the character in question, not just in narrative but also taking a style that fits with the character. Some of these have music or even are a complete music video with full song, and others don't have music at all. Amumu and Jinx have great song videos, while for example Fiddlesticks (the champion update one, basically a complete revision of what the character is), Warwick and Aatrox are more focused on telling a specific story and only have music as a background. There's some real gems in those videos.
    Besides that there's also complete 'bands' that Riot has invented as promotional material. Featuring champions from the game in alternative universes where they've formed music groups, with real life singers voicing them for songs which have music videos in the exact same style modern music has. K/DA is the best example for that, inspired by K-pop, starting with their single POP/STARS and then a 5 song album ALL OUT. Not sure if music videos are your thing, but if so you might find those interesting
    For the other fans reading this, I know Pentakill (metal band) has done a lot more songs, but there's not as much effort put into those music videos (besides Mortal Reminder) so that's why I'm putting K/DA out there first.

    Hey Kai, amazing video as usual.
    Not into filmmaking, but learning from you really helped me understand more and more why I like to watch this kind of content and what evokes a particular emotional response.
    I was wondering, would you consider reacting to an older music video from LoL, Villain - KDA? While official, it's also the concept video for the music clip. I think it would be a good way for you to get a bit more into how the content is made, how to create a better interaction between music and video and whichever points I'm sure you'll come up with it. You're absolutely right. Hong Kong style of action is the way to go. :-) Most modern western action scenes are too dark in addition to shaky cam and other nonsense, they do to conceal the talent didn't put in the work. Some films show that you don't need to be a martial artist to do great fight scenes, good dancers especially ballet dancers, e.g. Ziyi Zhang can do it too.

    Your videos are always a blessing; I stopped working to watch this one lmao
    People already told you some fragments of the lore but I do like to deep things down. It's good to know good stories sometimes as a source of inspiration.
    1) It's interesting that you saw Sylas (the man with the shackles) as an antagonist because his story is very rich. He's from Demacia, a nation that fears magic and because of that they persecute every single mage, putting them on prisions and killing them. Garen (the man with the sword) is from a very important family from Demacia and he believes in his nation's views but the plot twist is that Lux (the blond girl) is his sister and she IS a mage. Lux had mercy on Sylas when he was in prision but he tricked her and used her power to break out, killing tons of innocent people in the proccess. Now, Sylas wanders trough the lands reuniting other mages to his cause against this Demacia apartheid. As you can see, Lux is the first person to recognize Sylas and although he's fighting against Garen, she's the one who decides to change the course of the events, showing herself as the mage Sylas always knew she was. It's something like "You wanted to see me free my powers, Sylas, now taste the hell of them". But is Sylas a villain tho?
    2) You were right. Those are Caitlyn and Vi, from Arcane. The thing is Arcane is an origin story and after all of those events, Vi and Caitlyn will eventually start to work together as a part of Piltover police force. Urgot (the big green dude) is a full war villain from Zaun.
    3) There's not much to add about Kaisa (the purple girl) - you saw her in "The Call" cinematic - and Ezreal (the blond dude), who is an explorer, kinda like Lara Croft and Indiana Jones, but you got his personality perfectly. He's like "I'm the best and the most pretty" when you play him lol
    I think this cinematic didn't hit your soul probably because of the pacing and the song. It's a version of Warriors, from Imagine Dragons, but is still less epic than the original songs from other cinematics.

      I've not seen that series but rule of thumb for cinematics or films would be write the story you want, music comes later to bring it to life or speak directly to you. Ulta-Nyotaa, who has captured it all in 4K

    Now that you have seen Awaken, Warriors, The Call and Still Here, I would really recommend you watch a League of Legends cinematic called "New Dawn". It's older production from Riot and from year 2014. It's still really good though and if you enjoyed these ones so far, I think you might enjoy that one as well. Cheers! ❤

    They're not quite cinematics, but seeing you react to things like the K/DA, etc. music videos or the LoL World Championship promos would be cool to get your perspective. They're definitely a different style to these.

    As many have said the enotions of this at lest for me comes from lore.
    1st set. The charecters lux ( the blonde) garen the chuky guy sylas the guy with chains and galio the gigan at the end.
    Garen and lux are brother and sister form a land called damacia. Its a land where racism agains mages is incredibly bad. Garen beeing high on the ranks uses his links to the king and tries to protect lux who is a mage.
    The gigant statue, gallio, is made from petricium as is entire city of damacia. Material absorbs magic and gallio when enough magic is used around him he comes to life.
    Usualywhen mages attack he comes to life and helps defend the city but when in pressence of lux he awakened. Meaning she is such powerful mage that she could bring statue to life even when he last awoke during mage wars.
    Sylas is also a mage from damacia and he was able to tell who is mage. The police took him and used him to find other mages until his counceness would fight back and rebel. He was locked in the deepest prison chained to the ground.
    With lux growing up so did her magic power and she couldent contain it anymore. At first she was feeding acces power to gallio but having a gigant statue moving around can be suspiccous. Her family wants for use some kind of ritual that would suppres her power. She seeks guidence for controling magic finaly stumbling on sylas in secret. He plays into her naive trust and teaches her control of magic. Sylas dos not have his ovn powers but he can steal magic abilitys from anyone or anything he touches.
    At the execution of sylas he rebels using lux power to escape.
    Now to the accual cinematic
    Sylas is still leading rebelion against damacia. Thats why only enemys has mages in it and in that moment nobody know lux is a mage. During the fight sylas knocks down garen and he copys garen sword as it is made of petricium, material that absorbs magic. So in first hit he absorbs the magic thats is stored in sword. Aster bridge lux comes to a resolve that she can no longer hide her beeing a mage. She grabs the rod and bursts out the magic awakening the gallio who comes to help

    Tbh I thought this cinematic is just there for show alongside the song more than story telling. this song is Riot revolutionary move that make players immersed in the game and make playing LOL something more than just a game for them. and a lot of other game studio start to do the same.

    It's possible the music didn't hit just right because it's a cover of a song that was originally more of a rock song. It WAS written for RIOT games who make League of Legends, but it was made years before for one of their World tournaments.

    That is the link to the LoL Video the song was made for from 2014. It seems to fit better there.

    th-cam.com/play/PLE2Ki57pdQ-vj0bHZtIlax-jSdaiN8J05.html this list has the lore of the game an animations i recommend seeing the lore and animations cause it makes them more impactful but its also good if u only want to see the animations. see these animations with cc(subtitles) on youtube, some animations have subtitles but most only have subtitles on the subtitle option of youtube
