Incredible. Lyrics are stunning and compelling. Always been a fan and admirer of this voice and her freedom in creative and emotional expression. Makes me feel so inspired.
Breath of Fresh Air!!! Great original music (& sound)! You have a gift!!! I'm glad you're making real music that touches the soul! Thank you... Keep doing what you're doing!
tUnE yArDs, I was beyond excited seeing you guys at Splendour in the grass this year. Dancing my ass off right at the front barrier, looking like I'm having a seizure probably. Your 2nd and 3rd albums are so wonderful. I think you guys refined your music on Nikki Nack and you've made one of my favourite albums of the year. I keep coming back to it. So many indie artists sound so nonchalant when they sing but Meril's wild, explosive voice has such range and passion especially from 2:40 onwards in this track. Keep up the marvellous music, love you guys!
hey same!! i was there as well right at the front seizuring along with you, and it felt great. water fountain was so much fun with the crowd's energy and jumping up and down on "woo ha woo ha" ! definitely one of the funnest live experiences i've had in my life
I have a soft spot for this stuff. I shall indefinitely, because it is more refreshing than almost anything that I have been accustomed to. I am grateful that she made this. 'Ugly one, be you who you are.'
From my perspective the point is that nobody could possibly be the real thing. But who knows anything? These are deeply philosophical questions. Let me know if you talk to like Plato, Descartes, or whoever your favorite philosopher friends are. Have a good one! It's always dope to see someone that loves tune yards.
OK I've never said this in the comment before but now I'm really feeling it because this is just so beautiful and crazy and exactly what I need to hear. So here goes: in the early 2000s, my deceased partner and I were more excited than anything to go see Tune Yards that night. Unfortunately, their van broke down. I honestly don't remember how the situation was handled because they were playing at the bottleneck and tickets were obscenely cheap. Like, losing out on a few bucks was nothing but they probably still did something to take care of the patrons that were coming just to listen to and watch the music. Of making this comment: pretty please come through Colorado?? I'm not maintenance and I can wait for years. But I would really love to see you before I die. And thank you for being such an inspiration. You were such a courageous person. Bad ass to the core. Cannot be compared to anyone. Merrill could never be compared to anyone else! I apologize if there are any crazy typos. I have terrible arthritis and I also lost my voice so good times:-)!
she could be neither, or both :O I believe she identifies as a woman. Assuming you're asking out of ignorance - some people look a little masculine, feminine, some people are transgender, some are nonbinary, some agender, and they could look all different and not how you've been taught to expect people to look like because of assumed gender. You can google these words if you're not sure what they mean.
For some reason i like this song. The video is creepy but i dont no i like the song. It kinda sounds horrible but i love it. Something about how creative it is.
Nikki Nack is so underrated. One of the best albums I've heard all year. This song is an anthem. Much more inspirational than that annoying "All About That Bass" song. Not to mention much better lyrics and music. So why isn't this song/band more popular?????
Actually considering how atypical this album is it is doing incredibly well. When I saw them in Boston it was totally sold-out and Meryl mentioned how amazed she was that this album was so well received given it is pretty sonically weird. It's easy to wish that music of this were completely mainstream like the all about that bass song. But then again that would take the fun out of it, right?
I feel like this band has more to do with street life in America than pretty much any rapper on commercial radio. Don't gimme the shpiel about who I should listen to 12 year olds I'm turned on to the golden age underground hip-hop is in right now
If tuneyards made a children’s show, it would be the greatest of all time.
Bagpuss
Incredible. Lyrics are stunning and compelling. Always been a fan and admirer of this voice and her freedom in creative and emotional expression. Makes me feel so inspired.
I've always loved her music, but she does some great acting in these videos as well!
She's not acting. She's the real thing. 😁
I agree about the acting aand i agree about the real thing: nowhere, man
It feels good when you "discover" a great talent. Found you 3 weeks ago on my way to Vegas and can't stop listening ever since. Rock on!!!!
@anglosaint8585How’s that going?
Incredible on repeat
Breath of Fresh Air!!! Great original music (& sound)! You have a gift!!! I'm glad you're making real music that touches the soul! Thank you... Keep doing what you're doing!
I agree with you Conrad Allen it is about time people support original music
My favorite song from Nikki Nack! So happy she made a video for it.

Yeah that was great, Sink-O also seemed to get the crowd hyped a lot too
Possibly the best tUnE-yArDs song. Thanks, Merrill.
Underrated band.
This song is a window to where I scream and I cry and I ache in joy.
You guys were AMAZING in Boston this past summer. Please come back!!
Wonderful song from one of the best albums of the last decade or two.
I have a soft spot for this stuff. I shall indefinitely, because it is more refreshing than almost anything that I have been accustomed to. I am grateful that she made this.
'Ugly one, be you who you are.'
Wow
She may not think she is the "real thing", but she's got to be something, if she can make someone listen to a single song twice or more in a row.
From my perspective the point is that nobody could possibly be the real thing. But who knows anything? These are deeply philosophical questions. Let me know if you talk to like Plato, Descartes, or whoever your favorite philosopher friends are. Have a good one! It's always dope to see someone that loves tune yards.
Never had what you've got
what you are, you're simply not
Aren't you tired of this game?
And all the emptiness of your fame
You can't hold tight to what you have
Cause there is nothing there to grab
Now all life is a shadow of a thought
You never did have what you thought you got
I'm no real thing
They say I'm the real thing
(Oh no)
I sound like the real thing
(Oh no)
Sing it real loud like the real thing
Makin' 'em proud like the real thing
(Lalala)
I come from the land of slaves
(Lalala)
Let's go Redskins
Let's go Braves
(Lalala)
You want the truth in tones
Dig this dirt and sift out the bones
They said I'm the real thing
(Oh no)
I sound like the real thing
(Oh no)
Joke's on you
All askew
Heard my name in Timbuktu
(Lalala)
Now I got it
All mangled
(Lalala)
Cut it out it's all tangled
Star spangled
Never had what you've got
And what you are, you're simply not
Aren't you tired of this game?
And all the emptiness of your fame
You can't hold tight to what you have
Cause there is nothing there to grab
Now all life is a shadow of a thought
You never did have what you thought you got
Oh, I'm no real thing
Water ain't water if water is wet
(Oh no)
Don't have a penny
I look good in debt
(Oh no)
Red, white, blue course through my veins
Binge 'n purge the USA
Why are you afraid about pants size ten?
Humadum, rumadum
They're chosen girls
While you worry about dress size 6
They're winning the tricks
Those tricks, those dicks, oh
Just what is the real thing?
(Oh no)
Don't call my the real thing
(Oh no)
The search for the real thing
(Oh no)
The curse of the real thing
Lalala
I come from the land of shame
Blood and guts are all I claim, singing
Never had what you've got
Aren't you tired of this game?
You can't hold tight to what you've got
You never did have what you thought you got
Oh my god I use my lungs
(Bless my lungs, bless my lungs)
Soft and loud, anyway feels good
(Bless my lungs, bless my lungs)
Oh my heat up in my bones
(Bless my lungs, bless my lungs)
Perched atop my drumming throne
(Bless my lungs, bless my lungs)
Ate food that fed me
(Bless my lungs)
Seed planted itself in my stomach and bled me
Read some words that led me
Knee ache, skin leathery
Put up a fight, yell, and my pride
Swell, my fist right through a tree
Glory, glory it's good to be me
Ugly one be you, who you are
Ugly one be you, who you are
Ugly but pretty overrated
It's complicated
I'm a real thing
Real thing

Because the crowd is untruth. Let's just be glad we found some music we like
Great vid!!
Yes.
2:12 what babies think when they are born
idk why she mentions Atlanta and Washington 0:32
the pro sports teams use "slang" names for native americans. in the same line she says "land of slavery" so she might think that's not okay
Maybe
definitely
i like this
Loved it :D:D:D:D
manchild is still my favorite though.

At 0.56 its so funny when the yellow manican turned his head
omg Merrill is the only woman in her thirties who can pull off pink and blue hair with a matching top and a pleather skirt. Ride on, Merrill Garbus!
Honestly thought she was in her early 20s
+xHyperFlow I'm sure she would love to hear that.
Please inform others on how this is awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Watch Tune yards videos and music while on a psychedelic it will take you places
Why did no one see/hear this? We all come from the land of shame!@!@!@!@!
That piano in the back tho.
I love it yeah!!! :)
She reminds me of River Song from Doctor Who.
Yes! That's it!
Nathalia Archer To me the lead singer looks a spitting image of the lead singer of Mackelmore
Anna Gracie Yes.
Nathalia Archer I WAS JUST GONNA SAY THAT BUT YOU BEAT ME TO IT BY A YEAR
Now THAT'S an image I can't get out of my head...
Is this what happens when you grow up watching Teletubbies?
yes, it takes one to no one!!!!!!!!!!lol jk
+Givemeafinname Well, that and also David Lynch.
I was watching smosh and then I ended up here
I feel like this band has more to do with street life in America than pretty much any rapper on commercial radio. Don't gimme the shpiel about who I should listen to 12 year olds I'm turned on to the golden age underground hip-hop is in right now
Alguien de habla hispana?
Well, this is odd. Still my favorite song off Nikki Nack though.
