852 people lost their lives when M/S Estonia Sank in the baltic sea 28/9 1994.
One of them was the Swedish Musician Pierre Isacsson, his songs can be found on youtube today, (he was also in a few theathres).
He was also one of the singers in family four who made it to eurovision in 1971 with the song Vita Vidder.
He helped many people get to safety before he lost his own life in the disaster.
He left behind a 9 year old son and his wife.
He was a Hero, May he rest in peace, as well as the other 851 souls who never came home.
Dam.. thats sad :(
Yeah
Makes the Titanic look calm and peaceful while sinking but this is just complete unimaginable horror! The screaming panic must have been unbearable. God bless you all.
The estonia is the ship in stormy disaster tallin to Stockholm and the ship is sinking
@@Thts2561 you don't say
After the boat deck was awash it got VERY SCARY
And out of 989, 852 died only 100+ survived and titanic 700+ survivors but 1500+ died so that's less than titanic dispite the low amount of people on the estonia
The titanic was never calm or peaceful while sinking it was all chaos and gunshots and screams ;-;
My dad was on this ferry as a kid, and thankfully survived so I exist today. He rarely ever talks about it, and I hate prodding him for info because I feel like I’m making him relive such an awful experience.
I love you dad. 🇸🇪❤️

This is a pure nightmare. The cold, darkness, cold water - a horrible combination. Rest in peace to all those who lost their lives.
For those who keep having the "ship/ferry" debate, it's actually both: A cruiseferry is a ship that combines the features of a cruise ship with a Ro-Pax ferry. :) I hope this helps.
In the Philippines, we have a lot of cruise ferry and ferry...
I’ve been on Costa Cruise lines with...
Costa Colania , MV Costa Establish MS Costa Concordia and SS Costa Balticia
Most Inpotantly MS Costa Sunrish
It basically is a cruise ship, except there is a 1 - 3 deck high car deck, what makes it a cruiseferry

Rest in peace to all those who lost their lives in these historic ship tragedies.
Imagine: pitch darkness, storm, and they didn't even know what was going on, nor had enough time to do proper evacuation ... Just terrible, terrible way to go.
It happened so quickly that they didn’t have time to escape. This is scarier than the titanic since this one literally sank in just a couple of minutes... RIP 😔

The MS Estonia was a ferry carrying cars and passengers. Her bow could be opened up to load cars into it. When she started her voyage out into the sea, she was rocking and slamming the waves. Her bow had been rising up and down damaging the gate/door on her bow. The intense damage made bolts and screws fly off. The crew members at her bridge couldn’t see that the door had been clinging on too just a few bolts. They could only see with sensors. The sensors detected the door was closed, so they didn’t worry about it. The door finally popped off and she began to flood. She was already listing so this made it worse. The crew sensed distress signals, and she started to list, and list, and she capsized. 18 or 19 ships had responded with a lot of rescue helicopters too. It was difficult to find her, and her survivors so not many survived. Most drowned, or experienced hypothermia while waiting to be rescued.
This is the information I could remember from studying about naval history, please correct me if I said anything wrong.
IIRC she entered a resonance due to the free surface effect on the vehicle deck due to the bow breakage, like a pendulum in reverse, until she went too far over.
Silja Europa was the first ship to respond the distress call from MS Estonia
@@MysticianLuna_VG Silja Europa was first to receive the mayday call, and they were coordinating the rest of ships that responded to radio traffic call. MS Mariella was the first to get to the location.
Mariella and Silja Europa arrived first on site, but they couldn't do much due to bad weather. They deployed their own life rafts in hopes that people would get into them, but the waves were too high to do any actual rescue job until helicopters arrived.
As for the reasons of sinking, yes, that was official version, but the expeditions afterwards found evidence that there is damage in wreck side, large hole that has bent metal from inside out, so it can't be caused by crashing into seabed. Also, the government bs about "gravesite" and prohibition to dive down to wreck - even though they initially promised to recover the wreck and bodies (which they could've done easily, there were even some private companies that offered to do that, if government wouldn't have enough funds for such recovery operation) - it's hardly conspiracy theory when some facts are way too obvious.
I'm Latvian myself, and people from our country were also among both perished and survivors. I remember watching the tv news special broadcast in next day when they announced about this tragedy. Ever since, there are questions that have not been answered. Hopefully with the re-opened investigation, some clarity will come, and families of perished ones will finally get some closure.

This must have been pure horror. As a formal truck driver, 20years ago, I took the ferry to Ireland from Scotland.. weather conditions were a nightmare. That day I had a good guardian angel. Even crew members were in panic. Alltough we arrived in Ireland without big problems. but for those who were on the Estonia, knowing the ship was going down, this must have been worse than hell..

I have been in a storm in the north sea many times on the MV Hjaltland and the MV Hrossay, it can be quite scary but i am used to it, it is meant to me force 6 when i go on the MV Hrossay next friday and now after seeing this i am scared
I've been on a ferry between Swedish mainlöand and Gotland in 31 m/s. It was really abumpy ride and the smell of womit was awful due to all the seasickness. But we didn't sink at least.

travelled on this ship in 1991, was a good memories (then other name sweden-finland)
The ship was in very good condition 1994 so they said first. Then somehow they changed mind by some "mafia" instance. Waves were not the reason for sinking. Maybe many more people understand this now. French court said that the reason for sinking is a whole, Swedish lost money on this as well millions of euros have been now lost for sea watching 24h.

The M.S. Estonia was actually a ferry for some who didnt notice and how this ship sank is when the ship was sailing through rough storm the visor of the ship broke due to the waves and winds, if this comment was found useful then like the comment!
technically, the MS Estonia was more of a Cruiseferry, a Mixture between a Cruise Ship and a Ro-Pax Ferry.
This was really good but Estonia rolled upside down before she sank

Having the visor door at the front seems like an inherently bad idea for this reason exactly, why would you have the weakest point of the ship breaking the waves?
Nothing wrong with the concept if maintained properly. Sidewards opening bow doors are still stronger and work better under the punishment of sea though. Sadly in the early 80-s the technology wasn't there yet.
Built by a german shipyard, this vessel was constructed and originally certified just for shallow water operations.
She were built for the cruise between Stockholm and Turku. The time table was very tight, so they had to be able of driving all the vehicles trough the ferry. This is why she had a special permit allowing her to traffic only where the nearest land was half the distance between Stockholm and Åland. This was later forgotten and both Estonia and her sister boat suffered damage on the bow visor. Other boats have stronger and safer constructions and a lot of boats that travel open seas has the opening in the rear only. So the trucks have to reverse on to the boat, which takes more time.
@@CorellianYT1300Series Tech was there in all other decades. Just not the '80's...
that can probably explain to why most Cruiseferry's don't have any Bow Visor / Door
0:09 awsome song awsome video
I think this disaster was worse than the Titanic, granted, the Titanic lost more passengers but at least they had a couple hours still floating after hitting the iceberg. This ship went from bad to worse to horrific in almost an instant!!
what about MV Doña Paz, she was collided with an oil tanker
she was called asias titanic
The Estonia had a car deck with a flap at the front of the ship that could be opened and a ramp to come down to allow cars in or out of the car deck. When the Estonia experienced the bad weather it did, the door came loose, and water started pouring in the car deck because of the crashing waves. Even worse, the bow couldn't be seen from where the bridge is located. You find this on cargo ships too. Especially large ones like the Evergiven. You can see that on the Evergiven and other ships, the containers are loaded in a way that the stack gets lower as it goes further to the bow. This helps with visibility. So the Estonia really had no chance of surviving. It's just mother nature.

So basically i wanted to brighten up what happend on the estonia. So the estonia had a bow visor to allow entry for vehicles at that time the cargo on the other side had a list so the crew suspects the list is from the cargo. The estonia was on heavy weather on that day the high waves is damaging the bow visor wave by wave and after the poorly locked hinges holding on the bow visor finally break and a bang was heard throughout the ship the view of the bridge cannot see the bow visor is detaching from the ship.By the the crew on the bridge finally notice it was already too late the lifeboats cannot be sent because the ship was listing in heavy weather and the ship capsize.

When Something is wrong with a ship that you are on, go up immediately.
joco2k many of them just did not have enough time or strength to go up/get out. If I remember correctly the events that lead to the heavy listing & sinking all happened in timespan of an hour or 30 minutes. There are some truly horrific tales from the survivors in the accident reports.
@@GuuppariV2 This just further reiterates my point. Once your intellect informs you that the ship is compromised in someway then you need to go up. Immediately. It will feel like you have plenty of time when you really don't at all. Its the same with the incorrect advice at Grenfell, the advice that was given was unforgivable, regardless I don't believe that I would have stayed put after being aware that the building was compromised. If i lived high up in a highrise I would keep a base chute in the cupboard in the hope i would never need to use it.
Carto Carto I completely get what you are saying and agree that you should trust your gut feeling. But still it is rather easy to think like this and question the actions of some people who were in the accident from the comfort of your home. I truly hope to never be put in this horrible kind of situation in my life.
@@GuuppariV2 I don't doubt for a second that it was a horrible experience and that its easier to apprise actions from the safety of ones home after the fact than to live the emergency in real time. I just wanted to make a general point that people should be wary yet rational about their surroundings and also to sometimes defy authority or instructions when the by the book approach is clearly not appropriate. Copious amounts of health and safety legislation can make people loose their common sense, giving people a false sense of security. Also, official advise for the initial stages of a disaster is advise that has been devised to combat the average plausible disaster. But of course there is no such thing as an average disaster, they are unique in nature. If a disaster has already occurred then the inconceivable has already occurred. If i'm on a plane that is hijacked by jihads then one way or another I would attempt an organised killing of the assailants. A 50% chance of living is better than a 100% chance of death. From united 93 we have learnt the importance of this and in particular the importance of aquiring control on the aircraft ASAP: They needed to assign at least 3 men to tackle the terrorist at the controls, one for each arm and one to take out the terrorist and control the yoke.
@@Str4t0sph4r4 Well, the boats are built so that one should go DOWN when the boat is sinking. The lifeboat deck is not the top floor. I have never been comfortable with this fact and I have been traveling a lot with these boats.
