My grandfather was on that ship that night it was also his birthday not something he called a birthday that day! Today he is 79 years old and talks about it! We celebrate at a baseball game on his birthday!
I guess he was one of the lucky 137 who had to drift for 7 hours until rescue arrived.
Gee this is one of the most morbid and bleak marine disaster!
@@dannys942 Pretty much, but the man never talks about it as this a scar on his life
You have brought this tragic sinking back to life, sir. Well done on the animation. Rest in peace to all the victims of this tragedy👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you, Jamie. Hope you are well!

The M/S Estonia sank on September 28th 1994 on its way from Tallin to Stockholm,if i'm not wrong??

I'm from Sweden and I remember when I started the radio that morning and heard about Estonia.
They say that almost everybody in this country knew someone who died on Estonia or know someone who lost a friend or family.
I have a friend who lost a friend
Blue Star Line, I just want to let you know I remember watching your videos such as Estonia, a Nightmare At Sea, and Cruise Olympia loss of a ferry. A lot of that really contributed to my love for ships as a kid, and I'm amazed with how far you've come.
Keep it up.
Thank you very much for your kind words. I really do appreciate it!
this was absolutely terrible. I'm from Finland, so that touches. My relatives also died in the accident I only remember how upset my grandmother was for a long time after the accident. She was not on board but her sister was and perished. My grandma never went on a ship after that. my grandmother passed away only about a year after the accident. part of the reason was his sister going away
I remember the night, or rather the following day, very well, even though we were not affected. My uncle was a chief radio operator at the coastguard and heard everything over the radio. Little by little, new information kept coming in. We traveled a lot on the Baltic Sea by boat ourselves and found it hard to explain how this could have happened. After all, she wasn't a small ship back then. We followed all the news ourselves and hoped that it wouldn't be so bad.
Accidents are tragic and happen, but it's a lot worse when you don't know why and how. As far as I know, the investigation is still ongoing. We manage to solve murders that happened 40 years ago. We dive to the Titanic and know almost everything about its sinking, but despite today's possibilities, we can't find the exact cause of the Estonia's sinking. Despite a depth of only 80 meters.
My condolences once again to all the families and others involved or concerned. Special thanks also to the many rescue teams.
it was a submarine. because the hull had already started flooding before the visor came off (survival testimonies say this) and a holes been found on the ship. the ramp was also still closed when it started sinkign so it shouldnt have happened. most likely scenario is that a sub hit the bow and then the side (causing the sounds people reported hearing) and then after the ship started listing the waves and such broke windows and water came into cabins and halls thru that. (people said water was coming from everywhere, ceiling pads, stairs and so on)
@@dlsgrowyt2208people create conspiracies out of the dumbest stuff. The Estonia carried military equipment out of the eastern bloc previously, so Russia must have killed almost 900 people. As if the visor falling off and flooding the car deck wouldn't be enough to destabilize a type of vessel famous for capsizing.
We know exactly what happened. But you think a big ship could just keep going with a huge hole in front going against the wind taking in water?
Some people just can't seem to handle the fact that accidents, disasters and death can and does happen. Y'all are looking for conspiracies soothing you with lies that shit just can't happen it has to be some ridiculous conspiracy, in order for you to be able to feel safe in an unsafe existence.
30 years ago seems alot closer than the sinking of the Titanic!
One of the worst peacetime marine disaster in Europe!
Baltic sea's Titanic
Recently heard about this from tiktok and cant imagine how terrifying it must have been for on board passengers. The fact that it sank quicker than the titanic juat gives this sense of helplessness that makes this way more devestating (not trying to say that the Titanic was not as devestating of course it was) but with the titanic many people at least had a chance of survival. Does anyone know how many survived the Estonia if any?
852 out lives were lost of 989
@@Blue-Star-Line Wow! I cant imagine the terror from both those who survived and those perished :(
And unlike Titanic, Estonia was lost in a storm.
@@helene4397 Either way both incidents were horrific in their own way :(

I hope they didn't say that "this vessel is unsinkable"
they didnt, and not to the titanic either. thats misinformation. the titanic was never claimed to be unsinkable
@@dlsgrowyt2208 The phrase "practically unsinkable" is used by the owners of the Titanic. With hindsight, it's obvious this phrase was a bad publicity campaign.
And the weather repeated itself in baltic sea 20-30 ms
hm intersting how it was a car ferry. i remember when i went to the UK by car a few years back the cars were also not secured in any way just parked in the lower decks. i guess they don't ever expect any crazy waves on these ferries.
It took 10 hours. It eased into the water like an old man into a nice warm bath - no offense. I tell ya, I hear people really stuff themselves on those cruise ships. The buffet, that's the real ordeal. Well, all vacations have to end eventually.
I can't believe it's been 30 years and two days since the Estonia sank.
When I was 8 years old I was on that ship but Mariella came and rescue me :D
I'm finnish i have been on ms silja europa and ms mariella the ship that ms estonia gave mayday call to and helped estonia a million times onboard maybe
But right now i am bit sad because ms silja europa is somewhere else and i dont know when she come back here😢 and also mariella got sold away to Italy

the Titanic disaster was less dire. the ship sank for 2.5 hours. Estonia sank in 28 minutes
I wish we would know the whole story

Great video and sad story. A death blow like that in a storm🌩🌊 to a nice ship ⛴like the Estonia, it's sad.😢 Just out of curiosity, can you do a video of The TITANIC III from the movie TITANIC 666? why did the protective door fall off after the nose fell off? an ill-conceived design flaw?
To quote someone else:
"A ship with a dozen flaws was allowed to sail on a route it wasn't meant for, with damaged parts here and there, design errors and lack of safety features... a nearly identical ship had suffered front visor lock failures in a storm, but the information was shoved in a drawer and not acted upon... it was the year's strongest storm, the captain hurried, one of the flaws expressed itself (front visor locks broke), a design flaw amplified the outcome (the visor pulled the car ramp down), early warning didn't come (camera coverage had blind areas, the bridge couldn't see the visor, sensors didn't show much), lack of safety features made the disaster quick and terrible (lack of a watertight separating wall allowed the entire car deck to flood).
People knew that the ship had flaws, inspectors tried to stop it from sailing (a truck accident had damaged the car ramp and it was found to be sealed with old mattresses) but had no authority since they found the flaws on a training visit. The company pressed on and the ship sailed - profit needed making. A watertight separating wall was theoretically required, but the company applied for an excemption, and was granted the right to not modify their ship for use on open sea."
A ferry built who had a grand evolution ended under the name of her country and sunk by a design flaw, potentially an unknown Submarine and under a terrible storm
🇪🇪 🇪🇪
What caused the bow to randomly come off
Probably the waves or just badly locked
Structural stress caused by the massive waves during the storm.
4:33 the bow is raised
The ship was manipulated or not maintained- this could never happen
Lol what? You don't think ferries or ships can sink, despite the countless examples of ferries and ships sinking?
Must be nice to live an existence where nothing bad can happen accidentally, where accidents, disasters and deaths are unheard of.

You "just" saw the whole front come off leaving a big hole in front in a storm, and you wonder what happened?! It sunk of course, due to the huge hole in front, in a storm, sailing against the wind, taking in water...
im pretty sure the weather was worse otherwise the bow cant fall off

hole on starboard along 42meters height from 4 till 6m.
😢
Yeah, let's ignore the huge hole in front that sailed against the wind in a storm - and instead focus on a much smaller gash on the side, most likely caused by either hitting bottom or during prepation for the later cancelled concrete covering.
I recommend watching the Discovery documentary from 2020 done by Swedes and Norwegians.
You mean the unsubstantiated "documentary" that brought up different conspiracy theories, some of them in direct conflict with eachother that essentially meant that if one were true, the other couldn't be...?
Nah, I'd rather listen to facts and logic such as a ferry will sink when a huge hole opens up in front as it sails against the wind in a storm.
The video is wrong because all the witnesses and divers say that ramp was NOT open, it was closed. Open ramp is total BS. And the ramp was above the water.

30 years since the MS Estonia sank.
Hi, I'm G Lundström from Estonia. I have been studying the secrets of the Estonian state for 19 years. In 1994, the ferry Estonia was sunk with a bomb because it was learned that the police were waiting in Sweden. The business of the Estonian state is drug transit. In 1994, the cargo of the ferry Estonia was military equipment and drugs. Since I got drug transit from Estonia for my acquaintances, taxes went up and the economy went down. The Estonian state is to blame for the destruction of the ferry Estonia and they are covering it up as much as possible. Whole members of the Riigikogu and even the President of Estonia know all this. The Swedish state knows the right reason and the Finnish state knows the right reason. Its manifestation is a great miracle. Thank you, I hope you manage to make it public.

But sure, keep telling yourself Estonia could have sailed on just fine on high speed against the wind in a storm with a huge hole in front.
