I think that Sea Power is the ultimate game there is... An idea I have had for longer is something that comes to one's mind when you cross the TV Shows: The Last Ship, The Last Resort, and most importantly the Patrolboat from Australia. So I would like to have some sort of PVE/PVP MMORPG where you can pick a navy in today's time and have an officer commanding a ship, engaging in smaller engagements against enemy ships. You would start as a low level Patrolboat officer, working yourself up to CVN/CGN. Submarines would be welcome, but the bulk of the game shall be focused on surface vessels, those are being circumnavigated a lot in favour of subs in a lot of games. But you would also use your resources and gadgets, meaning all your ship has to offer. Taking land parties to capture island radar stations and alike like we see in the Last Resort show, commandeering in piracy engaged small fisher boats like in the Patrolboat series, support ground units in engagements against imaginary pirates and terrorists like in the Last Ship, using all sorts of weapons, from deck guns, torpedoes, missiles to all manner of special equipment, that could also be found or earned. Well, that is kind of my dream game... I don't actually understand why no one has yet made something like this. I see that the biggest problem might be to find a realistic way how to keep gameplay arches for such different ships. There is a lot of difference between a small patrol boat and an Aircraft carrier. But all the ships fill different roles in their navies, and it should be possible to come up with realistic tasks for their captains in one game.
Btw Regarding Rule the Waves 3 (Based on Rule the Waves 2), if you guys have been Stealth's videos, the design and combat is effectively the same as Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts but simpler. In ship design you are working from the opposite direction, instead of picking parts like weapons and engines and placing them, you select what you want the ship to be like in menus and then the game figures out what it would take based on your technology. Thus if you want a ship of 22 knots speed you select the speed not the engines used. If you want 4 turrets you select that in a window instead of placing them down. If you want 22 Secondary guns you select the gun size and the amount in a drop down and they appear on the ship. Its actually simpler than UAD as it does not tell you about all the details of how the armour scheme is laid out or the shape of the hull. Combat is almost the same but simplified, You have regions of the world that your ships can be placed into, depending on hidden dice rolls, portions of the fleet will discover and fight part of the enemy fleet in engagements you control. However because of the simple 2d graphics you don't have issues with pathfinding between ships and the map scales from ships fighting at a few kilometers away to aircraft carriers launching aircraft 100s of kilometers away seamlessly. It works much better than UAD but is the same in concept. However it has completely differently issues. For example missions can be very repetitive as the game might generate a mission to attack the exact same location on the map a dozen times. Missions can be extremely unfair, such as trying to defeat an enemy invasion force coming for your territory, that is somehow able to sail at night, under hurricane conditions and land troops safely, while you are unable to see the enemy ships to shoot them due to said hurricane and nightfall. The game also allows ships to sail close to the shore. But ships have minimal terrain AI, thus if they same next to land they will get stuck on peninsulas and rivers and drive around in circles.
Simplification is what saves RtW from many UAD's problems and makes it generally less frustrating game to play so that's a good thing, I think. AI can't build completely unbalanced ship if ship designer auto-balances it by default. I.e. AI has ships that aren't total garbage not occasionally, but almost always. You can manage large fleet battles better because looking from above at symbolic representations of ships gives you better idea about what's happening in the whole battle at a glance, your squadrons can be hundreds of miles apart and still be perfectly manageable. Ships will auto-dodge torps because you are a head of admiralty\admiral and personally babysitting every slight rudder shift for every single ship in the fleet is not your job. Also RtW gives you less information about enemy ships and their current status which makes gameplay more strategic and challenging. For example, you don't know how many torps were launched your way by what ships, you can't just start evading the second they launch and then rush your multi billion-dollar irreplaceable BBs into several DD squadrons like in UAD, or you can, but that might cost you. Actually hyped for RtW3. It has it's problems, but is enjoyable in general.
I think ship design in RTW is more limited because it works more like real world ship procurement. The navy says what they need on a ship, then shipyards propose how they can achieve this, then the navy works with those proposals. So you don't have fine control over everything, but it's in line with theme of the game.
The just released into Early Access game ‘Naval Hurricane’ is worth a look if you liked Atlantic & Pacific fleet alsol recently released into Early Access ‘Destroyer the UBoat hunter’ is shaping up to be an excellent title.
I’m excited for Sea Power because I played both Atlantic Fleet and War on the Sea which were made by the same developers that also developed Cold Waters. Sea Power gives me something to look forward to and may even see some Naval WWIII content to upload to TH-cam. Even if I can’t upload, I’m still gonna get the game
Really looking forward to Task Force Admiral as I used to play Task Force 1942 a LOT back in the day. That game had just the right mix of authenticity, atmosphere and gameplay to keep me going back while hitting the books to learn more about naval warfare in the pacific. I hope this game does the same.
Been interested in Sea Power since the announcement, but there's no way it comes out in 2023, unless they decide to do early access and just give us partially functioning test skirmishes. That said I hope it will be worth that wait and looks like it may well be.
Good video! Nice overview of some very promising games. To your point, I have the original Rule the Waves, and it is excellent, even if not overburdened with eye candy. The designer is also very pleasant and helpful.
Used to play "Great NavalBattles" back in the 90's, would love a similar game, the thing was you were controlling the whole fleet of a country during WW2, and had to account for time spent in repair and refit, allocating ships for convoys and patrols, and all the overall strategy used at that time. Never seen anything similar since.
Dangerous Waters from Janes was my first naval game ever. Been hooked ever since. It also started my love of flight sims and military sims in general. BTW there's one more I have been watching on steam but it doesn't seem to be developing fast. It's called 1971 Indian Naval Front.
I STILL regularly play Dangerous Waters because the mechanics of finding, identifying and sinking a sub in that game(I typically play as the Seahawk) never got old to me. It's a different experience each time, and always just enough of a challenge to make it fun.
Rule the Waves 3. Boy have we waited for that DLC. This is a "shut up and take my money" title. Though if they are moving to a third opus then I hope that torpedoes will be a tad less frustrating, and carrier management a tad more... manageable. But even without that oh boy, hype is real.
I didn't know RTW3 was coming out. I absolutely love RTW2, and think its currently the greatest grand strategy naval game, since UAD still hasn't worked everything out
So glad to see Rule the Waves again. I had been unable to play Rule the Waves 2 after I had to reset my pc. Was hoping Dreadnoughts would fill the void, but they are still a long way off. That said, I'm most hyped for Task Force Admiral. From what progress the devs have shown so far, It's everything I ever wanted ever since I first played Victory at Sea Pacific. I'm hoping that, eventually in the distant future, they will add multiplayer campaign. To go head to head against my sister's fleet would just be perfect. Alternatively, a coop campaign would be nice. Each person takes a carrier task force and must coordinate with each other to win the war. Sea Power is the other big one I'm looking forward to. Usually not a fan of the Cold War naval aesthetic. Over the years of Wargame, Cold waters, and Dangerous waters, I've kind of warmed up to the Cold War ships.
I'm glad to see naval genre games get both great mechanical depth and excellent visuals, but with the little free time I have now days I've been looking for something more arcade-like. WoWS didn't do it for me, but I did really love the game style of Navy Field 1, but has too many problems (mainly the company requesting sensitive personal info, freezes, crashes, low player count, only team elimination deathmatch)
Looking forward to the Task Force Admiral game, especially if they expand on what navies the player can command. The Great Pacific War is my major for a reason!
All 4 look interesting, thanks. For me, Command: Modern Operations (and it's older brother, CMANO) is the best naval game so far. If it's good enough for NATO to do wargames, it will do for me, too ;) I've had a lot of fun with Silent Hunter III, especially with The Grey Wolves mod. Back in the nineties there also was Jane's 688(I).
What would be crazy is there is a way to bring a full fleet in multiplayer with not just 1 but 2000 - 4000 player all onboard ships in their proper amount and running a full campaign. That would be crazy.
November 21, 2023 - My favorite Naval Warfare game was the 1990's game "Harpoon". It was a great game, with a lot of granularity, well researched maps, and their customer service was excellent. I'm really sorry that they gave up on developing and releasing an updated version of the game. A year or two ago I purchased "Command - Modern Operations", but I haven't had the time to learn how to play it. I spend most of my time with the outstanding Armored Fighting Vehicle sim "Steel Beasts". I am more of a "Tread Head" than a sailor, and I'm only interested in Naval sims because I like to create real world warfare scenarios. Air assests are fairly easy to include in combined operation scenarios using the various in game tools. What I find most interesting and exciting are the wonderful graphics that are being generated for games now. They are almost photorealistic.
My late 2023 opinion on these games: Sea Power: After recently reinstalling Cold Waters, I am very excited for this game. War on the Sea has recently become stagnant, UAD doesn’t appeal me, and RtW 3 can only get you so far, so I’m fresh out of naval games and looking forward to this one. TFA: While I generally don’t enjoy overly complex games or simulators, this game looks promising and highly customizable, so hopefully it won’t be disappointing. RtW 3: Played RtW 2 and it was everything I wanted. UAD is still very much unfinished imo despite consistent and constant updates. RtW 3 has been amazing so far, and that’s only with a couple of minor updates. All I need now is the submarine naming bug fixed and more time to play and I’ll be good. MNW: I would certainly love to play this, even with the complexity and steep learning curve (I would do anything to play as/on SSN-777). However I fear that the mentioned DLCs will make it a sort of DCS- or MFS-style “pay $60-90 for a barebones platform where you have to pay $100 to enjoy the game you already paid for” thing. Of course DCS is free but MFS is not. Either way it would be fun to have a submarine game focused on a Virginia-class sub.
Rule The Waves and RTW II are amazing games, and the graphics are top of the line 1995-era CGA. The game play is amazing though - the map is a simple two tone zoomable globe of the entire planet and models curvature of the earth into range and shooting calcs. Many is the time when I had one friendly task force just barely in sight of another, which itself was being furiously engaged by an enemy even further beyond the horizon. if you like full on fleet actions with realistic outcomes but without all the chrome and visual eye candy of most games then RTW / RTW II is for you.
Sea Power looks good. I look forward to trying it out. I would love to see a modern warship sim in which you control one ship as part of a taskforce or just day to day running of a warship in combat. Years ago I remember a colleague looking at a game called Type 22 which was about the Royal navy type 22 frigate. They were trying to develop a part of it which allowed you to be the Seawolf missile controller amongst other things but it never became a proper game . Having served on type 22's I'd love a chance to command one in a game like Sea Power.
so i am a former submariner, so Modern Naval Warfare is right up my alley...i could get some of my friends to re-up their old roles! that would be so awesome! we were on Tridents tho....can't be THAT much different....right?...LOL
I LOVE devs for catering to a pretty small market with tons of ambition. Sea Power looks good as a concept. I'm on board with this one. To your point, it's always best to let them take their time. If they are able to execute their vision, it's got potential to grow the genre overall and create a wider market. That means more games like it! Military aviation simulator enjoyers have it really good. DCS for example... it's good enough to where people want to spend more on peripherals for the game than they spend on the game. Racing sims have tons of support as well. They can figure out monetization later. These types of games are expensive to develop for. I feel like some people look at DLC as is, when it's really about supporting the developers. Gotta pay the talented people to keep improving upon the project. If you want quality you have to pay for it. I play a lot of Paradox titles so I'm used to opening my wallet. It's cheaper than tabletop gaming. I play WH40k like 2 times a year but have spent... too much, lol. On plastic. As a community we vote with our wallets. I sometimes worry about the business side of early access development. I'm not saying with Sea Power specifically, but in general we should see that these games are a niche. Rare, as the video says. It's really really rare to see a project with this ambition but a defined scope...in development right now. What it promises is realistic. There are other EAccess titles that are priced way too high or too low to fund sustained development. There are titles that are just too ambitious, ones that are cash grabs. This looks like a real move to "disrupt" the market. Or grow it. Just speaking from the business side of it. Sea Power to me looks like a game I could play for hundreds of hours. We deserve what the fancy DCS pilots get, with their $2000 peripheral setups 😂. God bless em. That's the dream to have for naval sims. I really hope Sea Power is a step in that direction.
"You'll have to do your homework to do well in Modern Naval Warfare" lol like I haven't been playing subsims since I was 8 with Jane's 688i. I have prepared for this
I recently found ultimate admiral dreadnoughts and it's amazing. It'd be great if another developer would make something for the 1890s - 1920s that accurately models Navy's for that given time period though.
I was just thinking about getting more into naval warfare after neglecting it for the last few years, this video couldn’t have come better! Thank you for the list I’ll make sure to check em all out when the are released :D. Another good title that came out not long ago is carrier command 2, you should take a look at it
Thanks! Have taken a look at Carrier Command 2. Not really my type of game. Had a lot of bugs in it too when I played it. Did a stream on it 2 years ago or so.
@@Stealth17Gaming Agree, it was pretty half baked at release. Played it for a bit but quickly lost interest. For a game that seemed to really dumb down mechanics to very simple concepts, it somehow ALSO made some elements far too hard to understand and manage(like resupply ships, etc). I will probably try it again sometime to see if its been updated and improved.
I'm 50 years old and I'm just now starting to get interested into 'gaming' because it seems like the graphics technology has finally made this interesting ( imo ) So with that: 2 stupid questions please. I do not want to play on-line because that's where you go to get killed. Instantly. *(1)* Do these games (and others like them) have the option to just play the A.I. or are they only ON LINE? By the way is DCS online only? *(2)* Can you get Cheat Codes for *off* *line* *use* *only* ? _I used to love playing against the AI in Gran Turismo with Cheat Codes_
I think Sea Power looks promising. It seems to have the accessibility of Cold Waters, which is a big plus. Graphics look pretty nice too. Dynamic campaign is the big selling point for me in any war game. Task Force Admiral looks promising too. My only worry is that it will be TOO deep. Hopefully, it will have a lot of adjustable micromanagement, otherwise it seems like more work than play. I also hope they add the ability to play as the japanese navy. It might become very good though. The Rule the Waves games are pretty good, but the lack of graphics will still keep it very niche. RtW3 may be good, but it will definitely not be for everyone. I used to be a bit hyped for Modern Naval Warfare, but the fact that it's only one type of submarine is a negative in my opinion. Yes, the Virgina-class is cool, but how realistic can it really be considering pretty much everything aboard the real type is top secret? It might be good, but I don't think it will scratch the "Cold Waters itch". Also, it might be too deep on realism. I also worry that the biggest focus will be on making it multiplayer coop, and that is not my cup of tea. The problem with very modern stuff is that it's usually very complicated (and secret). This is why I am more optimistic for Sea Power than Modern Naval Warfare. The 1960-1980s era, while complex, is still simpler than today's electronic warfare and all that.
I’ve been recently getting into naval combat so having these games would be Super nice to add these to my “General Grievous Lightsaber Game Collection” lol
There has been rumors floating that US DOD put a hold on "Modern Naval Warfare:" because it modeled the submarine systems too realistically and jeopardized classified information or something to that effect so it's been on hold or some things are being resigned, but I do not know if that's just a rumor or accurate. I really cannot wait for it and also yearn for a spiritual successor to Harpoon 4 which was cancelled which would have had a 3d open world model much like combining Harpoons strategy layout of harpoon 1 and 2 combined with a Cold waters or jane's fleet command type of 3d world. A game like that has been a wish of mine since Harpoon was cancelled long ago.

Oh, RTW is from the Matrix game. No wonder i feel familiar with War in the Pacific (WiTP). Or to some extent, Command Modern Air/Naval Operations CMANO.
despite me not liking the layout of rule the waves 3 I'm gonna try it when it comes out, iv never played any of the other games and it looks ancient and I like old things despite me being young and I like being able to make ships from the cold war era. I just hope you'll be able to make your own fleet of your own custom ships.
I'm a fan of the RTW series, but boy do I wish they'd spend some time and update the UI/graphics. I'll be REALLY disappointed if there is no 'dark mode'. Thanks for putting these games on my radar @Stealth17!
Anyone has ever Pacific storm: allies? If not you can try the games, it's a ww2 strategy combine with controlling the fighter/bomber with the ability to jump to controlling every single gun turrets available in the aircraft, just think it like men of war 2 with ability to control every single plane that you bring into the battle and control it to every single turrets the aircraft has. The games had a Pacific map where you issue strategic command and managing your fleet and bases, also build what ship and aircraft to build. For anyone's wondering it's a total war style ww2 naval battle, but it's a very old game from 2007 or more perhaps. If you don't mind the old graphics there are still some bug issues as well (at least the last version I played long time ago that yet has the last patch and bug fixes). If someone from the developer read this please make the sequel or remaster it with modern graphics so people will enjoy the mechanic and concept of the game more
Interesting list, I am more interested in RTS/strategy naval games, manage an entire fleet or more than one ship rather than a detailed simulator, do you have any recommendations of these games?
Sadly not. I think Task Force Admiral comes closest to the RTS type. Beyond that there's Atlantic Fleet from some years ago. That's turn-based though, not RTS. I'd love a naval RTS. Gap in the market I think.

Oooooo thanks for the video and happy Thanksgiving
Happy Thanksgiving!
I didn't know RTW3 was coming out. I absolutely love RTW2, and think its currently the greatest grand strategy naval game, since UAD still hasn't worked everything out
I still go back to Pacific Storm every now and then. I wish they would make a sequel.
I LOVED RTW and RTW2. Don't care about the graphics, the gameplay was excellent.
Looking forward to the Task Force Admiral game, especially if they expand on what navies the player can command. The Great Pacific War is my major for a reason!
All 4 look interesting, thanks.
For me, Command: Modern Operations (and it's older brother, CMANO) is the best naval game so far. If it's good enough for NATO to do wargames, it will do for me, too ;)
I've had a lot of fun with Silent Hunter III, especially with The Grey Wolves mod. Back in the nineties there also was Jane's 688(I).
Finally after 20 years, a successor to Jane's Fleet Command!!!!!
I see the trend of game devs not releasing games around the time they say they are going to release has made its way to the naval genre.
Sea Power looks like Janes Fleet Command updated for almost 25 years. Absolutely beautiful!
@0:43 The ship I served aboard CV-63 USS Kitty Hawk.
What would be crazy is there is a way to bring a full fleet in multiplayer with not just 1 but 2000 - 4000 player all onboard ships in their proper amount and running a full campaign. That would be crazy.
The Golden Age of naval gaming is upon us! Naval enthusiast dream come true!
Clicked and upvote for having no clickbait thumbnail.
Task Force Admiral looks really exciting
Thank you very much, that's kind of you!
I m specially waiting for Sea power and Task Force Admirald and maybe the naval warfare 3, idk but they all look goood
Silent Hunter 4: Wolves of the Pacific will always be my favorite naval game. So Modern Naval Warfare might find me interested.
My late 2023 opinion on these games:
Sea Power: After recently reinstalling Cold Waters, I am very excited for this game.
Sea power looks promising 🤞🏽
Sea Power is most definately #1 on my "can´t wait" list.
Yup, Task Force Admrial close second :)
I would love to see a modern version of POC 😎
Hyped by Rule the Wave 3
We need more missle age games thank you for making this video
I would love a Age of Sail game with crew like Modern Naval
1 Yes I believe all have a feature to play against AI
2 Don't know
I think Sea Power looks promising.
Apparently there will be an Akula and Astute to control in MNW.
@@TRR23123 Interesting. I'll keep an eye on that. Thanks for letting me know.
@@Antares2 No problem, however it isn't confirmed, just a speculation
I'd love it greatly if Sea Power was basically just War on the Sea, but with cold war tech instead of WWII.
It pretty much is lol
I’ve been recently getting into naval combat so having these games would be Super nice to add these to my “General Grievous Lightsaber Game Collection” lol
Having played the first 2 games heavily, I'm looking forward to Rule the Waves 3. It's definitely a niche game, but a very good one.
5:50 really looks like a very interesting game ngl
I clicked on the links first before watching the video and when I saw it, I was instantly interested.
Hi Stealth, am looking forward to TFA and may give Rule the waves 3 a look
Thank you Dave, much appreciated!
@@DrydockDreamsGames your welcome ⚓️ I also think someone should do a game where you take on a role of commerce raiders like a MMO or even single player especially design your own commerce raiders like the Germans did during ww1 and ww2
I've had that first game on my steam wishlist for a while now
I saw my favorite naval planes...the Crusader, the Corsair II, and the Intruder.
Naval Combat in DCS can also be fun, especially in the Editor
Oh, RTW is from the Matrix game.
No wonder i feel familiar with War in the Pacific (WiTP). Or to some extent, Command Modern Air/Naval Operations CMANO.
Looking mainly for MNW 😁 but I will also play TFA and Sea Power.
Perhaps sadly, I'm still playing Dangerous Waters... So I'm looking forward to some of these.
I would like a game like Ultimate Admirals Dreadnought but with modern ships and battleships
Same. Rule the Waves 3 comes closest, but it doesn't have the visuals that Dreadnoughts does.
Cant wait for TFA and Sea Power
A new Rule the waves, I'm listening
I hope you get 100k soon, Stealth. Love your content.
I hope so too!
Sea Power looks very interesting as a Cold Waters player.
despite me not liking the layout of rule the waves 3 I'm gonna try it when it comes out, iv never played any of the other games and it looks ancient and I like old things despite me being young and I like being able to make ships from the cold war era.
I just hope you'll be able to make your own fleet of your own custom ships.
Can't wait until Sea Power comes out looks good...
I'm a fan of the RTW series, but boy do I wish they'd spend some time and update the UI/graphics. I'll be REALLY disappointed if there is no 'dark mode'. Thanks for putting these games on my radar @Stealth17!
Janes Fleet Command! An old one but it still holds up, check it out Stealth, I’m sure you’ll like it.
Will the last one only be for PC?
If someone from the developer read this please make the sequel or remaster it with modern graphics so people will enjoy the mechanic and concept of the game more
I'm really excited for Sea Power, been following it for a while now. 😉
I want a new Jane's Fleet Command with next gen graphics and updated military equipment.
@@Stealth17Gaming Thank you for the feedback. Do you think Sea Power will be more strategy than simulation? is closer to Cold Waters or to War on the Sea?
Ardent seas is a naval RTS coming out sometime in 2023 or maybe 2024. Similar to C&C but with the focus on naval units and skirmishes on islands
@@thedarkcorrupter Interesting! I'll check it out, thanks
@@Stealth17Gaming I can mention some older games, maybe not great, but historical naval focused: Jutland, Distant Guns from StormPowered, Clad in Iron from Steam, War on the Sea from Steam, very recent Naval Hurricane (Atlantic Fleet but based on WW1)
TFA et SEA POWER sont les deux jeux que j'attend le plus pour 2023 !
Merci bien mon Prince!
Been waiting for a successor to Sub command / Dangerous Waters for a while, Cold waters didn't quite cut it, so definitely looking forward to MNW.
Seapower is for sure the game I'm looking forward to the most.
I'm so excited for Rule the Waves 3 myself.
For Rule the Waves 3, I really want to see a togglable aircraft option.
Sea Power looks like a remake of Jane's Fleet Commander
Do you know if there are any age of sail type naval games coming out?
I don't know. Didn't come across any when I was researching this video.
Don't forget good ol Harpoon.
Damn I loved that game, I wish they would make a good modern version, though Sea Power might fit the bill!
Played Harpoon do death when it was released. Still have the download on my drive that I am looking at getting back into soon.
C power reminds me of an old game called Fleet Command by Janes I used to play.
I quite like Rule the Waves 3. It looks alright. Would love an in-depth video about it.
I hope Rule The Waves 3 has a dark mode because that interface is going to be eye searing.
Whatever happened to Harpoon 4 that had been schedule for 2004 or so and then got put on hold?
In Wargame RD you can control ships
Really happy Rule the Waves got a big publisher! Well at least big compared to their old method. Hoping for a smother aircraft system!
I have both RTW titles. One downside of UAD is the absence of ship types like Corvettes.
i look forward to Sea power. TFA is a maybe i need to see more gameplay before thinking of buying it. i would love to play Modern Naval warfare but i would have to watch a lot of how to play videos because i have no Naval experience on a submarine. But i think it would be a great experience with friends and random people.
I loved Janes fleet command
very hyped for both sea power and RTW 3, though i am not fond of having to get stuff in matrix games, would be better if it could also be released on steam
This remind me a bit of a series of games called Harpoon.
Who jere played battlestations midway and/or battlestations Pacific? What did you think of them?
your mouse cursor was driving me up the wall.... but I still subbed, your cursor appears to be doubled in C Power
I am going to enjoy watching Sub Brief(aka JiveTurkey) play Modern Naval Warfare!
I wish UAD and RTW 3 came together into one game. I would love the ability to design my own turrets that I could use on a Patrol Boat or destroyer and then slap a missile on it in the future.
Agreed
