    Those Dollar Tree plastic containers with the white lids don’t keep stuff from getting stale. I ended up getting better airtight containers for my items.

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have learned this the hard way since I posted that video. For things we go through quickly they're fine but we're going to have to do the same thing and buy better containers as well. Also we just had a pantry moth problem 🤦‍♀️ they snuck in through a bag of organic peanuts and quickly took over. These Dollar Tree containers did not keep them out! It was awful.

    Omg, girrrrlll...you've brought back my sanity! I just emptied out my walk-in pantry because we saw some ants. I couldn't believe how many duplicates of stuff I had, and I'm embarrassed to admit, a lot of expired stuff. My husband was like, damn - how much money did you waste on this? So, it gives credence to getting it all organized. My local store does a lot of 'buy this, get that for free'. And so I end up with stuff I'd never use. I did manage to salvage quite a bit that I will be donating to a local food pantry - which makes me feel great! I thought I had a lot in my pantry but after watching you, I'm at peace with it! Thank so much!

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's so easy to end up with extra stuff and duplicates! I should've shown how much stuff I had to throw away... same as you, I was embarrassed by how much we had that was buried in the cabinets and had expired. It has been so much easier to keep up with everything now that it's organized and I can easily see what I have when I'm making my grocery list. And when we're feeding a house full of people we end up with a lot of stuff!

    Great video! My husband is currently making me a pantry and as of tomorrow all that will need done is to paint it. I love the metal rack with shelves on the door. It definitely gives you more space to put things, I hadn’t thought of that. Btw, the light in your pantry is so pretty.😊

      Thank you! I bought two of these chandeliers when I did my laundry room so the rooms would have matching lighting since they're right next to each other (I linked it in the description as well). That's exciting to have a new pantry! I'm sure you'll have fun getting it organized. I've never used a door organizer before but figured I needed to optimize every inch of space, it helped to free up shelving space for other things. Good luck with your pantry, I hope you love it!

    Wonderful video! How have the containers held up? Still keeping your items fresh and dry? Considering something similar and was curious if a cheaper option would work well long term.

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you! So the cereal containers I ordered from Amazon are amazing. The Dollar Tree containers not so much lol. They are fine for things you go through quickly but they aren't air tight. We had an Indian Meal Moth invasion that came with some nuts from a health food store and they got in to all of the Dollar Tree containers but the cereal containers from Amazon were perfectly fine. I am slowly replacing the cheap ones for air tight ones since dealing with that.

    • @nicolewoods8197

      I appreciate the question and the reply. I was excited to purchase the Dollar Tree cylinder screw top containers but will not after knowing they are not air tight.

    Good job! I would like to make my own kitchen labels..I don't have a cricut machine.. do you know a cheaper one that I can buy only to make the labels.. please let me know the model and price if you know

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I do have a few possible suggestions for your to make labels without a cricut. You can buy printable sticker paper (which is what I used) and print them out on a printer like I did but instead of using a cricut to cut them out you could cut them out yourself. You could use Canva, they have a free app where you can design your labels before printing them. Also cricut makes a smaller version called the cricut joy but it's still not cheap, it's around $150+. You could also buy a small handheld label maker. I don't know which one to suggest but they are inexpensive. The only downside is you don't really have options on size or design, they just print basic labels.

    • @ailindelvalle7483

    Did the canister keep brown sugar fresh?

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I actually ended up with a pantry moth infestation (I shared that here as well) and I ended up having to dump out most of the contents that were in these dollar tree containers. It seemed like things were staying fresh until then but in the end they weren't air tight and didn't keep those tiny pests out. I'm using them now for things that don't need to be air tight (individually packaged snacks and such) but wouldn't use them again for sugar, rice or anything like that.

  • @Adana48
    @Adana48 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What is the name of the program you use with your cricut? You said it twice, but I think I heard it wrong. Would like to try it.

    • @TheNiftyNester
      @TheNiftyNester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used Canva to design the labels. I didn't go too in depth on that since I'm not a seasoned cricut user (yet) but Canva is my favorite to use for things like labels, it's really ready easy.
