    How to make ten pounds a month on antiques? Start with 20! I'd say Vince has a good idea, considering that at 56 I'm on the YOUNG end of antiques dealers I know. Gotta get some younger legs and backs in on the action.

    Excellent idea, really hope it works out, wishing you every success from Japan.

    A visionary idea - which the business needs now more than ever. I would also suggest Vince instigates a mentorship programme, with older dealers working alongside younger dealers, passing on knowledge and sharing experiences; effectively an apprenticeship.

      As a relatively young man (25) I can certainly attest to the difficulty in finding mentorship if you don't have any older family members/acquaintances in the business. I'm dipping my first few toes in the water of antique dealing and it's difficult to navigate without any guidance. But to make mistakes and learn from them is unavoidable in any enterprise.

    Good idea but nothing in Scotland for me to work with. Also I do online so would need to be kept very upto date on sales or just put different stock into the cabinet ultimately which I think will be less profitable or take longer to sell.

    Sydney has a couple of these super stores but they charge an arm and a leg per month. So, after two months, you are bed ridden and have to give up your cabinet. They then suck in another victim in your place.

    In the USA....a case for 50 dollars is reasonable. Wow.

    Is this offer still available? I emailed about it but haven't heard back. Perhaps there's a better way to get in touch?

    Sounds like a good idea. May even lead to some good Antique Malls around the country. Something I wish we had here.

    I dont understand this,its £10 a month and a day working in the shop, is that a day a week or a day a month?
    Then he goes on to say that a young person can work 7 days a month and get a full living from it?

    • @DavidHarperAntiques
      @DavidHarperAntiques  ปีที่แล้ว

      A day a month and yes, it’s happening and working!

    • @retroclickmedia4422

      @@DavidHarperAntiques So if someone is say17 and works 7 days a month they can earn a living from it?

    • @DavidHarperAntiques
      @DavidHarperAntiques  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@retroclickmedia4422 It of course depends on their stock, skill in buying, work ethic etc etc. That goes without saying. But, yes because they have several units selling their items across several outlets, open 7 days a week, it’s easily doable

      @@DavidHarperAntiques With the greatest of respect I can not see this happening. I started trading in antiques in Oxford 30 years ago in the massive centre a few hundered yards from Antiques on High's predecessor - The Jam Factory. I have had a shop in the centre of town and know and traded in the Gloucester Green antiques market. I was the second trader to join The Swan at Tetsworth.
      Even 25 years ago when antiques were still selling, in multi antique centres with £40k in stock it was not possible for me to earn average wages, it is very difficult to make a proper net profit today taking into concerderation the cost of fuel, breakages and of course parking in Oxford.
      Antiques need to be sold, they will not sell themselves. I specialised in period tea caddies, sewing boxes and writing slopes having hundereds in stock, unless the person working in the centre had a working knowledge of the woods used, the period, furniture fashion, quality etc.etc it was just about impossible for them to sell a piece for £100's outside the trade.
      I know of none of my dealer friends who make a living from antiques anymore, how many market towns do we all know that only have one antiques shop left where 20 years ago there were six or Seven (Wallingford, just 8 miles south of Oxford).
      It would be really interesting if you could interview one of the young dealers and we could view their stock.

      @@retroclickmedia4422 Thank you , you make some very interesting points and I completely relate to them. I’ll be filming with Vincent next month in his new Taunton centre and I’ll bring it up. If there’s a dealer working on this system, I’ll see if they will chat about it. It might be an idea for you to speak to Vincent as well. There might be something to be done between you?

    Great idea and I’m 26 and been buying antiques since I was very young and I can never make myself sell some and I’m a full time photographer too.
    £10 a month is very reasonable it makes me want to sell my photos in different shops and I think I should try n sell a few antiques and other things as I collect everything going and it’s a great idea to get the younger generation into antiques and collectibles
