The Haunted House set has a really interesting story.
It's shown from the painting that the house was owned by Baron Von Barron the main villian of the old Lego Adventures line, which explains all of the historic trinkets littered throughout. The Pharoah hidden in the painting is implied to be a curse Barron set on himself after taking these trinkets from the Pharoah's tomb, that may or may not have eventually killed him.

In Japan, the PG-12 rating is even more harsh than most PG/PG-13 ratings in other countries.
For example, the extreme gorefest psychological horror film The End of Evangelion (complete with nudity and the infamous hospital scene) was only rated G in Japan.

A couple of quick things regarding some sets on this list:
    1) The Venom set was noted to be almost identical to the one they did for Carnage, and as someone who owns both (and as a fan of these 2 villains from Spider-Man), I feel this was likely done intentionally as homage to the fact that Carnage is actually Venom's "spawn", if you will. You see, when Vemon was defeated the first time, his symbiote was sent into space with the hopes of being rid of it for good, but it later returned, and came back with the Carnage symbiote as it reproduced while in space.
    2) The spider us pronounced "she-lob", as it's specifically a female spider. Gollum intended to have her eat Frodo and Sam to get rid of them and claim the ring for himself afterwards; of particular note, this took place at the end of the second book, the two towers, but when they were adapted into movies, it was moved to the third film, most likely due to time issues while filming (if I had to guess). Also, I'm pretty sure the side build with that set that is used to catapult Gollum was added purely as an extra play feature, as Gollum himself never actually got involved with this past leading the Hobbits to Shelob; as I mentioned earlier, he intended to let them be eaten by her

Personally, I used to absolutely LOVE the Monster Fighters sets!
They were so creative, expansive just the right amount of horror without become "gory" or gruesome!
You got to actually fight the legendary monsters and see all their spectacle and power come to life!
The "Moonstones" aspect of the sets really gave it more of a feeling of underlying mystery and lore surrounding these horror legends.
The Lego Studios Scary Laboratory & Vampire Crypt are old classics and somewhat "primitive", and I think that's why it looks so scary. It's made with what they had at the time, and it works!
Even Dr. Frankenstein's face here is stretched unnaturally! The Vampire's eyes are missing that "glint of friendliness", which makes it look much more otherworldly.

Hey Strider. Kids and I love your content. 🙂🙂🙂
Just thought I'd respond to your point referring to the Venom LEGO set. Whoever made the complaint that it looks too much like Carnage absolutely missed the point. I'll explain.
Carnage is the offspring of Venom. It was an offshoot or leftover from the original symbiote to make contact with Cletus Kasady and his blood.
So if they are similar, it's both by design and comic accurate. So there's no reason for anyone to make that take reasonable if they took the time to access the source material.
Hopefully this helps. Have a great day 🙂!

Good video, Strider! I personally have the majority of the Monster fighters sets, and the ghost train and the vampire castle are my favorites. Unfortunately, the pieces making up the doors on the rib cage jail car degraded over time and broke when I tried to move the ghost train set. One of the only times I’ve had Lego break on me due to age. I ended up taking the doors off and turning it into a cushy passenger car for the monster elites, but I gave it some jet black T-rex arms for extra creep factor. I gravitated towards this series because of the ghost train set. It really reminded me of the ghost trains in Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2, which is one of my favorite levels from my all time favorite game.

Ah, good old Lego Studios. Talk about a callback to my childhood. While I didn't own many of the sets, I do remember an old game called Backlot, which took place in the Lego Studios universe. It was a fun game that I hope people remember.

I think the LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean set "Silent Mary" should also be on the list. It looks all broken and worn down like you would expect a haunted shipwreck to look. Also, the set has zombie sharks in it. I mean, how many ocean related LEGO sets do you know of that have zombie sharks in them?

I have always loved the depth of expression the lego ghost retains with such a simple face design, and being a fan since the 90s and living in the deep south I can honestly say I've never made an association between the clan and that brick, I 100% think that's a you thing

The cat and mouse one makes me think of if a baby were to pop out of an open jack-o-lantern: more cute than scary

I'm just now realizing that during the Venom portion of the video, you're playing the helicarrier music from the first Lego Marvel game in the background. Nice touch 👌

The Haunted House set is actually the final set from the LEGO Adventurers line. The portrait of the series villain, Sam Sinister, indicates that this was his house.

    It’s a cave-apult.

10:03 correction, its Sprite your face productions that made the movie, it was commisioned by the LEGO group in 2002, the person who you credited just reuploaded the video.

Another cool reference to Stranger Things in a Lego set is the LGBT rainbow set, the yellow figure has the same hair mold as the Will Byers figure (a gay character from Stranger Things that is represented by yellow by certain details in the show).

You're definitely way overthinking the ghost design. Would you think the Ghostbusters logo is offensive?
