That growl/distorted chest voice he does is part of his unique tone. He can sing the high notes without it but then he would just sound like everyone else.
Hello! Thank you for reacting to Yuuri! I always listen to his songs lately. My most favourite song of his is [かごめ] or Kagome (esp. the piano version). The raw emotion coming off of him is incredible. It is on his official channel if you are interested :)
Yuuri is a self taught singer who makes his own music and lyrics. Nobody taught him. If you see any technique that probably is not in the text book, that's the reason.
Thank you for reacting to Japanese songs. This song was written for the drama "SUPER RICH". He himself sings what Yuri wrote and composed. It expresses the feelings of people gazing at the same star in the sky and communicating with each other. Betelgeuse, one of the stars in the constellation Orion, which is part of the Great Winter Triangle, is 642.5 light years away from Earth. Therefore, the current light will reach the earth in 642.5 years. An important person looking up at the light 642.5 years ago from the same sky wishes the same thoughts to the stars. I feel that Yuri is singing such feelings.
5:08 It's needed to take note that Japanese language is different compared to English. I personally think if he actually did the "aaa" as you suggested, the language would lose it's meaning or just simply sound unnatural. The tone for "ga" is a bit tilted in the Japanese language, and intonations are one of the most important aspects in learning Japanese. Pronouncing "ga" in a way that you mentioned will make you sound like a foreigner and it's definitely something you wouldn't want in a local Japanese song
Great reaction to Yuuri! As other commenters have noted Dry Flower, Tag, Leo and any other song he does on The First Take are amazing. I would also recommend Mika Nakashima's Yuki no Hana as another amazing vocalist from The First Take channel.
Crazy flipping consider its from male singer with that high note and fast tempo and long repetition on that chorus, and the fact that on the last chorus he could hit the highest note without falsetto is crazy
loved this video!! would love to see you react to Mrs Green Apple - they’re a japanese band. I’d recommend either soranji or 私は最強 (watashi wa saikyou- i am invincible) i think you’ll love the lead singers voice and their music as a whole :)
The “a” sound he is making is the only sound for the letter “a” in English. The letter in Japanese is が pronounced “ga” in English and it only has this sound of a. Just thought I’d share that. Thank you for your review of yuuri. I love this artist and love to see English speakers getting to hear his work.
NO NEED TO WORRY😂 Yuuri is actually a singer who already done, - Singing right after Running 1km, - Singing right after drinking 1 bottle of cola, - Singing while getting electrocuted, - Singing while his body got buried in the beach sand. - And singing after spinning around for 20 times. Of course he plays the guitar by himself while singing in that condition😂 There's no top artist out there who would do that crazy singing experiment like him.
Great reaction from the professional of the other professional! One thing I thought I wanna point out is, in Japanese, "A" sound you were pointing out is specifically pronounced as THAT shape of mouth. For Japanese including myself, jaw dropping ones sounds weird, there is no such sound in Japanese, we only have wide open "A" sound. Maybe in singing you don't have to sound your lines in pure language oriented sounds, but I thought I should point out :)
The first his song I heard was Dried Flower from The First Take channel last year, not even an original. I’m a Japanese but I never heard of him until then. I tried just because someone played his cover before but I didn’t know any his songs so I really didn’t expect that he was really that good. Since then I’ve been listening to his songs and watching his videos(including music contents). So if interested. You should watch Dried Flower and Kakurenbo(Hide and Seek)next! Of course Leo, Tag(Onigokko) and Shutter, too! Dried Flower is really highly recommended😊 if you wanna know about him moreyou should go with this one! And Kakurenbo is the first song he wrote and this is the very first song he released( he debuted from Sony label with a song called Peter Pan after his 2nd song from indie called Kagome).
Since the pronunciation of "R" does not exist in Japanese, He simply pronounces it Ah~~~~. Most Japanese cannot distinguish between R and L in English. This may be hard for native English speakers to believe, but it is a fact.
Fun Fact: in the Japanese language the way we pronounce あ is just "A" I guess more "open" (idk how to explain) and the L or R it sounds the same for most native Japanese speakers bc we have ら which pronounces both the L and R 😅
@5:10 its mainly an asian language thing where every consonants and vowels have the same pronunciation unlike english having multiple sounds depending on the word example like A in the words apple and main
Interesting. I didn't think of it with pronunciation. I know very little Japanese. I wonder if voice teachers in Japan & surrounding countries speaking languages with similar pronunciation teach vocalists about mouth shape they way we tend to as westerners. I'd love to travel and teach one day!
majority of asian countries have one pronunciation for every letter thats why english is hard to learn cause of all the different sounds each letter can be pronounced but oddly enough english is taught there. Also depending which country, if their own writing were written directly in english alphabet they dont have all 26 alphabet letters but ranging from 20-24
@@maireen3517 I definitely take being an english speaker for granted. In terms of singing, the placement makes a lot of difference - not just pronunciation but tounge placement, mouth shape, raising our soft palate, all have their own strengths and uses.
Hi! I just stumbled upon your channel and this reaction from you was adorable. Especially towards the first chorus😄 I think most of us would appreciate your reaction to Shutter, Dry Flower and Kakurenbo from Yuuri as well !☺️ but anyway I really enjoyed the reaction and hope to see more !!!!
It’s amazing that Yuuri actually write all the music and lyrics on his own. I recommend Yuuri’s another song : th-cam.com/video/ysqGvafOcaQ/w-d-xo.html
Yuuri’s Dry Flower, Tag, and Leo on The First Take are absolute must watches!
yesssss
@@muhdshafiq4259 I forgot Kakurenbo too! Lol Yuuri has so many First Take performances.
His "Tag" as well
@@retirolester Yeah, I mentioned Tag too.
@@retirolester The official name is Onigokko. Might give more options.
Japanese music is on another level.
And Japanese singers don't need autotune.
That growl/distorted chest voice he does is part of his unique tone. He can sing the high notes without it but then he would just sound like everyone else.

my fave from him is the collab with Sawano-san, "Till I Die".
i like his ''shutter'' first take.. full of emotions
The lyrics are so romantic and nice
Loved how you were just enjoying his song especially towards the end
So romantic

The title is "Till I Die", and this song is my favorite.
Please react more Yuuri on The first take!!!
You really need to cover all of Yuuri
But you need to read the lyrics to understand why he does certain expressions.

If you sing as this trainer tells you, your Japanese pronunciation will change and Japanese people may not be able to understand it.
