I think "Homura" is one of the most beautiful, ephemeral and emotional songs in the world.
The content of the lyrics is primarily directed at Demon Slayer's Rengoku, but it is also sympathetic to our real life, and that element will make us even more tearful.

Thank you for reacting to LiSA, she deserved a lot more exposure than what she has right now. The thing is that LiSA can bring such emotion to the audience, even though there is this language barrier, but you can still feel what she is trying to tell you. The way she can bring tension to the voice and the jaw, to get the impression of being oppressed or struggle, and then starting to remove that tension to tell the audience that she's finally broke free or breaking through something. She even use her breath as a medium, to tell that she is sad, or even crying. For me, it's just another level of singing.

Homura is even more emotional when you know about its background: It's all related to the charecters in the movie, the lyric is like the protagonist talking to a beloved person that passed away and start with two powerful words: sayonara (goodbye) and arigato (thanks). I love it so much ❤

It was a reaction video with good commentary.
Piano and vocals, absolutely simple and supreme combination.
It may be hard for the performer as each can be heard clearly.
It touched my soul and brought tears to my eyes after a long time.
In Japanese, the word "炎" is usually pronounced "hono-o.
This is a special way of reading the word "homura".
"hono-o" is simply a flame, but "homura" is a group of flames, a more powerful flame.
Furthermore, both "hono-o" and "homura" have an older form, "焔," which means a fiery emotion, such as envy, anger, or lust.
In the machine translation, the combination of "炎", "焔" and "hono-o", "homura" would be four separate words, but all of them would be "flame". In this way, there are multiple words in Japanese that are all the same when translated into foreign languages, but have very different nuances as Japanese words, and include background situations and emotions. I hope you can sense this as well.

    • @MasterofVoice
      @MasterofVoice  ปีที่แล้ว +41

I’m so glad you posted this because Google Translate was telling me “Hono”. Then, I tried to find others saying it and they were all saying “Homura”. So, I was a confused. Thanks!!

I sincerely appreciate your searching to trying to know the correct Japanese pronunciation and meaning.
I imagine that every language has its difficulties, but one of the difficulty points that Japanese has is that a single kanji has multiple pronunciations and meanings.
I often see Japanese song titles and lyrics translated, but ther're a directly translation or free translation that does not accurately convey the surrounding circumstances, feelings, and conditions contained in the words and sentences, so I feel the author's expression is not accurately conveyed.
However, if we try to include them in the description, it becomes a long sentence by itself, which I think is impossible due to the practical inconvenience.
And something I forgot to mention. I love that you really enjoy listening to the music in receiving the feeling of voice and music directly, and nice technical coment.
      Sorry for my poor English.

I have watched this video on THE F1RST TAKE probably a dozen times over the past few weeks and it gives me chills every time.
The way Risa Oribe (LiSA) incorporates these transitions from falsetto to belting to fry is so reminiscent of the way that we transition from various stages of grief, back and forth between pleading, despair, and hope. Her voice does all of this in Homura.
The lyrics have such emotion. There is pain and joy, grief and closure. The song was truly made for LiSA.
LiSA has such a colourful voice, sometimes light and airy, sometimes dark and dramatic. She’s just an incredibly powerful and dynamic singer.

Her emotions on this song are amazing, particularly due to the fact that Japanese idols have very strict rules of how they can react on stage. Showing emotions like this would be a huge no-no normally, but this song means so much to her that she couldn't handle it, even though she has been trained to "conceal don't feel" for a long time. LiSA is truly a singer of a different breed.

This song and a few others being sung by LiSA right now are composed by Yuki Kajiura (I call her the John Williams of anime music). She has her own group, FictionJunction and also wrote the music for Kalafina, who have unfortunately been disbanded. Kajiura has a really good ear for singers, and its worth checking out some FJ and Kalafina songs. I also recommend watching live versions over studio, as they are just spectacular.

thank you for appreciating lyrics, since LiSA is the one who wrote it with the legend Yuki Kajiura(the composer of homura)✨

She puts literally all of her into what she sings. She is in the song. She maybe is the song. So emotional. I'm a little new to LiSA, despite having been an anime fan in the past, but she is amazing. This might be my favorite video of her singing, due to the intimacy of just her and the piano, but I really have to recommend a live performance of Ichiban no Takaramono (the Angel Beats ending). It is my other favorite of hers, because in this First Take, when she is talking about Homura afterwards, she mentions how she puts all of her emotions into it, just as she does in shows. That could not possibly be more true in this live performance. You absolutely have to hear it and see her sing it live. It's amazing. I don't know which one to choose. I think the first one is technically better. She nails the ending and you can see her emotion. The second one sort of illustrates all of this though, and shows just how into it she gets, and how she is always on that edge when she sings, because she loses the second one, and literally starts crying during the end of it. All I can say is, what a beautiful, beautiful soul that can go on stage and sing like that. All of the hugs in the world would not be enough for this woman. Such a tender soul and so, so talented.

Such an emotional and powerful song. If you had watch the series and the movie you would be curled up on the floor sobbing right now. Demon Slayer has left me in tears many times. The words of this song embody the emotion of the series very well.
