What languages are you trying to learn this year Cassia? I'm studying Russian, but English is always revisited, it's the basics to learn new languages.
im very glad i found your page and all these comments. ppl around me don’t have much drive to learn other languages or they speak one other language, but everyone thinks i’m very dumb for attempting to continue Mandarin, still dabble in Italian, and recently adding spanish. i haven’t even told anyone i’m starting Portugués. im glad i am stumbling upon youtubers, redditors, etc who already know its possible to learn multiple languages and do well at it! i love your videos anna, they’re so helpful
Wow anna! the struggle to not add new languages to learn is real lol. I feel you. I've gotten a lot better at controlling it, thankfully, but it's still there. Also why harry potter is because it is an easy reading that becomes complex with time. It's not about the words per se , it's about how to manage hard grammar concepts and a complex context system in order to obtain meaning. Mind you, I've never used it, I am just showing you what other people told me.
im beyond excited to see your russian and spanish videos it sounds like a dream for me honestly !! russian is my native language and english is my second language and i kinda know spanish a little so i would really like to listen to something in spanish as well !! you go girlll

Heyy! I'm an spanish student currently living and studying computer science in Florence. I don't know where you would like to live in Italy but I have sooo many good recommendations. I've been loving these new series, now it's time for me to crete my new goals. Happy New year everyone!!!

As a brazilian, I think portuguese is quite similar with italian, but far from french 😂 it’s kind hard to pronounce words in french. Words in russian looks easier for some reason, specially because of the R sounds for me
When I started learning Brazilian Portuguese, I noticed a lot of French loan words in your language: la grève > a greve, le soutien > o sutiã, le maillot > o maiô, le métro > o metrô, la boite > a boate, e outras palavras que não vêm à mente por enquanto... When learning French, one needs a lot of native audio, whether through a course like Assimil or content on TH-cam or Netflix. I started out learning French with a phrasebook with only about an hour of content on audio cassette, fita-cassete - I don't know if you remember those... - and I've been self-correcting my pronunciation ever since.
Ahoj.
This year I wanna focus on actually using the languages I'm learning (subtitling my videos, talking to people, etc.) in compromise with studying them the traditional way, so that I see that I'm not just learning and learning them and not using them :) Good luck on your French endeavors, I grew up around it so I find it quite easy, but I've heard your accent and it's quite good so you've already got a head start :D
Happy New Year for all of you!!! I'm also afraid of speaking in English, so recording myself helps me so much:) About Harry Potter : My professor recommended us to read it, because of simple vocabulary and grammar constructions. As for me, I didn't read Harry Potter in English, instead of this I read Persy Jackson series 😅
Я смотрел Гарри Поттера по-английски, и если честно было нелегко. Может быть потому, что больше привык к американскому английскому . И видимо я такой не один. Как-то смотрел интервью актрисы , которая играла Серси в GoT , она там использовала несколько слов, который ведущий (американец) не знал .
I'm bilingual and I did my family language as a gcse so don't ever worry about studying your own language, after all we all did our native language eg English every day of our schooling life
can i suggest something? i hope i'm not crossing a line, but when you said you want to create six from scratch videos in spanish, russian or french, maybe you can talk about the book you read in that language. for example, you said you bought wimpy kid book in french and maybe you can talk about that wimpy kid book in french. it's just a suggestion lol but i loved your language goals, seriously. wish i could be this focused on the languages i want to learn lmao
The Harry Potter thing is definitely real lol. I think it’s because everyone knows the story so well. There’s definitely some “magic” words that maybe aren’t super useful, but really the vast majority of the text in the book is “normal” vocabulary lol.
I think one reason why the Harry Potter translations are popular is because they were *professionally* translated. The author didn't decide to run everything through Google Translate and call it a day. I see this being done a lot nowadays, unfortunately. :-( It's a good resource, however, for pasting foreign-language content and hearing how Google or Bing "speaks" it. In some languages they do a good job.
@@bhutchin1996 yess that! I've also seen some vocab/grammar lessons structured around harry potter chapters (for japanese and russian), which can be very nice I imagine as you can set like smaller chunks of goals
I feel you so much about being awkward with Russian since it’s supposed to be your first language! My mother is Polish but my level in the language is at best B2. I now live in Poland as well and it is so awkward to just talk to people knowing full well I make mistakes and don’t sound like a native. I really want to focus on reaching fluency this year though so I have to get out of my comfort zone. And I am also wanting to improve my Spanish and start Japanese. It’s going to be a busy year!
Languages i am learning this year are korean , Italian and start Thai all just for the sake of interest and to enjoy them. I also want to improve my English as much as i can it isn't my first language and yet i am pretty fluent and good and advanced but I still want to keep improving and learning ☺️ Anna I wish you the very joyful 2023 and thanks for motivating me for so long. Also I wanted to share a little something that these last days of the year were not too good for me (i am okay now)but whenever I wanted to relax,i had your voice in the background which really distressed me.. Happy new year once again .... ~xoxo
Same I already know Spanish and I’m learning French and Italian this year the best advice for you for all three of these languages are focus on Conjugation and Grammar.
11:15 I don't speak those languages but I had a similar issue some years ago. I tried learning Portuguese on Duolingo from Spanish and from English. The reason why is because courses in English on Duolingo tend to be more "complete", with more content. I just chose Spanish to learn Portuguese. Even though there are some false friends, it's easier because of the similarities between both languages. The same with French and Italian. So, I recommend that you learn Ukrainian using Russian if you can.
en tant qu'un de tes abonnés français, je te soutiens vraiment pour l'apprentissage de ma langue !! ( as one of your french followers, i really support you for learning my language!! )
You are so inspiring! I've started learning spanish a year a go but i wasnt very motivationed. But after I found your socials I became soooo consistent with my languages goals and I got my spanish on next level THANK YOU I also start my portuguese lessons because Im moving to Portugal next week (and I also start my youtube channel - everything on in life just moved on and you were one of the inspirations THANK YOU AGAIN :DD)
you keep me so motivated to learn languages so thank you 🙏🙏 this year my focus is french (since i have my a-levels this year and i'm going to be studying french at uni), and also picking up korean and spanish! I think i'm just going to stick to the three since this year will be so busy, but i'm super excited- good luck with your language learning this year!:)
Just a tip for your Italian trip, if you're gonna end up living in Florence, you need to know that in Tuscany, the letter "c" is aspirated, so instead of "casa" (home), you re going to hear "hasa". P.s. muggle in Italian is "babbano" (funny word right?). I wish you success on your language journey 🥰
Mille grazie! I have the first two Harry Potter in books in Italian but I haven't started reading them yet. Just went to Google Translate and the stress in "babbano" falls on the penultimate: "babbáno". Italian text doesn't always tell me where the stress falls.
hey, Anna! :) I just wanna thank you for being so open minded about Brazilian people and language. I don't know if you understand the importance of letting go of the stereotypes and put yourself out there to really get to know us, but it means the world to me that you do. Even nowadays, we suffer with xenofobic opinions about our country and people, and seeing someone like you, excited about our culture, is priceless. keep up with your amazing goals
I second the idea of reading non-fiction books instead! Most people, I think, gravitate towards fiction. Whenever you hear about reading for language learning, it's fiction... I think the main advantage, besides what you've already mentioned, is that you'll not learn the very descriptive set of adjectives/nouns that any fiction book is full of. They're cool to know, especially if you're advanced and want to read fiction, but as a language learner who has real interactions in mind you'll not only not use most of that vocab but you'll also waste a ton of time trying to decipher every such book, lol. I'm currently going through Yuval Noah Harari's books in Spanish/Swedish (I've already read Sapiens in English, and now I'm reading Homo Deus in Swedish and 21 Lessons for the 21st Century in Spanish). What I really like about his books that in addition to being really interesting, he touches on so many subjects that you'll get a wide vocabulary. I think the two books I'm reading now are far more specific (I'm about 1/6 through each of them) but in Sapiens you get everything from history to philosophy, economics, science, sociology, psychology, etc. So I can recommend those books. Another author I can recommend is Walter Isaacson, he exclusively writes biographies but the people he describes are pretty wide-ranging and he dives pretty deep into those topics, so they're a good read too! If you know what you'll be reading (especially for Spanish) in the non-fiction category please let us know ;)
I shared my goals on my channel for my languages, or my specific goal, actually 🤓 my languages are German, French, and Russian, but a fourth one might come soon 😅 all of your language goals sound very exciting, and I wish you the very best in achieving all of your goals from this video as well from your last! 💗💗💗 if we ever meet, we can do a little language exchange in all the languages we share in common 😆
Good luck with your language learning! For 2023 I am sticking with Japanese and Spanish, with my main focus being Japanese. I really want to learn to read the basics (hiragana and katakana words/sentences) and learn some (like a 100?) kanji. Starting to review what I so far have learned of hiragana today! :)
Hey, good luck learning Ukrainian :) I am Ukrainian and I can tell you that this language is really really beautiful. Just listen to it and get inspired! So it compensates the fact that it is a bit difficult for non-Slavic speakers. Glad to hear that you actually wanna learn my native language 😊
I think looking into how Russian speaking Ukrainians are learning Ukrainian and their experience with it can be helpful! I'm a Russian native speaker(but my primary language is English and that's what I use to learn languages) and I find learning Ukrainian grammar is way easier from Russian because there are a lot similar concepts and the explanations are tailored for Russian speakers(you don't need to be explained what gender is, etc, so you get to improve in a more efficient way), the vocab often clicks more and is easier to remember because of similarities but it can also be confusing. But learning it from English can also be confusing cause your brain is trying to remember something similar to Russian but in English so both languages end up firing up which can be frustrating. I say try both for a like a week and see what's easier for you, that's what I did. Or you could learn vocab in English and learn about the grammar in Russian and see if that works. Ankiweb has a great premade vocab deck for Ukrainian for beginners, and you can always edit the cards into Russian as you go if they're in English or vice versa.
im excited for u to come to Brazil :) hope u can learn portuguese soon! u inspire me alot! ill focus on italian this year but ill take some time for spanish as well, and of course improve my english, hopefully getting to C1 in it

18:24 Oh yes, I've also noticed that, I was in a bilingual (Polish & English) department while in middle and highschool and I remember at least 3 students carring their Harry Potter books in English haha Also my that type of book is The Hunger Games!
Hey Anna! Love your channel and all of your templates. You're truly talented and have inspired me to use notion. Plus, your skillshare course is amazing in breaking it all down. Wishing you a happy new year!
According to language learning in a United States military linguist learning centers , coming from an English speaking background. It should take about 6 to 8 months learning either Spanish, French or Italian it will take about 50 hours a week combining speaking, reading and writing to become C2 proficient in either language. So about 50 hours a week for 8 months to become proficient in French.Same with Spanish or Italian.
This video is super inspiring! My target languages are spanish and korean. Setting time specific goals and being consistent have been difficult for me but I plan on being discipline this year :)
I’m a new subscriber and am loving these planning videos. I’m focusing on learning Spanish and German in 2023 and I may dabble a bit with Russian by learning the alphabet. Here’s to 2023 guys!!🎉
Just discovered your channel and I immediately subscribed, I personally find it very interesting and motivational! ❤ Great job! I'm a polyglot too and I make video stories in Italian to help people improve their Italian, I think context really help to reach fluency and the goal you mentioned is really amazing! Being able to read a whole book in Italian is definitely a great achievement.
And this is my favourite part🥰 Because I am also into languages and started my channel about my english learning journey. Btw I also speaking in Russian but it’s not priority for 2023. I want finally reach Advance level in English.
I will watch your Russian channel, actually I thought to start Russian TH-cam channel by my own because my Russian way more better than my English, but now it’s not priority so I decided to concentrate on English.
Thank you so much for this video! I really like what you said about to talk to camera to practise your speaking skills. I also live in Spain and after 6 months here I can understand people and try to reply to them, but it's very basic level of spanish, only useable for daily routine conversation
Italian is my second language, I learned it when I was a child and I hardly use it. I had a conversation in Italian with someone a few days ago and I felt a huge degradation in my ability, embarrassing. I'm going to do an intensive Italian course (course means that I am studying by myself) in the first two months of this year, starting tomorrow. Twice a week, I bought a great book. I plan to go to Italy in the spring and I want to get there with my Italian sharp.
My goals are - finish Damon’s beginner French course - finish learning 600 most common French words - start weekly journaling in French - finish Damon’s intermediate Spanish course - start weekly Spanish speaking practice - find out more about living in/ moving to Spain 🤭
I studied french for about 13 years in school BUT I never used it while speaking so I understand everthing I read / hear but I can't express myself in it. So it's my goal this year to speak french and practise it as much as possible because at the end of 2023 i'll do TCF (which is a test to know your level in french) I know Im at level B1 now but I hope I get to B2/C1 at the end of this year.
Lol i do that thing with the 1st harry potter book. Idk it's probably because it makes me feel confident in a language bc i know every word my heart so when i read in another language i know what it says even if i don't actually know anything

im very glad i found your page and all these comments. ppl around me don’t have much drive to learn other languages or they speak one other language, but everyone thinks i’m very dumb for attempting to continue Mandarin, still dabble in Italian, and recently adding spanish. i haven’t even told anyone i’m starting Portugués. im glad i am stumbling upon youtubers, redditors, etc who already know its possible to learn multiple languages and do well at it! i love your videos anna, they’re so helpful
Це дуже приємно,коли вчать нашу мову іноземці. Хай щастить !
I am really excited for those vlogs in Spanish and russian especially 🤩
Wow anna! the struggle to not add new languages to learn is real lol.
I actually started learning spanish a while ago watching your videos. You're actually the inspiration to me.. YOUR videos made me do it!!! 😭
Love youu 🤍
С наступающим Новым Годом!🎉🍾🎄 Видео получилось очень интересным, огромное спасибо за него! Успехов в изучении языков, да и в достижении всех заветных целей😊
❤
Good luck to you! My languages and goals are:
1) Persian A2 ---> B1 (Read, listen, speak)
2) French B1- ---> B2 (Read and listen)
3) German B2 rusty ---> Good B2 (Read, listen, speak)
4) Spanish C1 ---> Comfortably reading Latin-American literature
English and Dutch are no priority this year, since I already teach both.
Heyy! I'm an spanish student currently living and studying computer science in Florence. I don't know where you would like to live in Italy but I have sooo many good recommendations. I've been loving these new series, now it's time for me to crete my new goals. Happy New year everyone!!!
you are a big inspiration for me!!💌 i'm a native spanish speaker and i know speak english but this year i wanna learn korean, i've wanted to learn this lenguage for a long time and i think it's time to make it true!😸💌 new sub
I'm also afraid of speaking in English, so recording myself helps me so much:)
About Harry Potter : My professor recommended us to read it, because of simple vocabulary and grammar constructions. As for me, I didn't read Harry Potter in English, instead of this I read Persy Jackson series 😅
Я смотрел Гарри Поттера по-английски, и если честно было нелегко. Может быть потому, что больше привык к американскому английскому . И видимо я такой не один. Как-то смотрел интервью актрисы , которая играла Серси в GoT , она там использовала несколько слов, который ведущий (американец) не знал .
Just started learning russian a few days ago. I'm really motivated and scared at the same time. Wish me luck gente
Good luck💫
i started 5 days ago, i still struggle with the alphabet lol
@@fatalmokrane oh you will learn it, trust me, but... You will soon realize that the true nightmare is yet to come☠️.
I wish you the best of luck
I'm still passionate about language learning but I need to figure out my learning flow! I'm sticking with French, Japanese and German for 2023!
2023 is going to be a serious year for me, I’m taking next year very personal. Health, language, finances, personal goals.
I'm bilingual and I did my family language as a gcse so don't ever worry about studying your own language, after all we all did our native language eg English every day of our schooling life
can i suggest something? i hope i'm not crossing a line, but when you said you want to create six from scratch videos in spanish, russian or french, maybe you can talk about the book you read in that language.
for example, you said you bought wimpy kid book in french and maybe you can talk about that wimpy kid book in french. it's just a suggestion lol
but i loved your language goals, seriously. wish i could be this focused on the languages i want to learn lmao
I've also seen some vocab/grammar lessons structured around harry potter chapters (for japanese and russian), which can be very nice I imagine as you can set like smaller chunks of goals
i will watch your videos to learn English and i already love you.
Было бы классно увидеть ролик, как ты учишь украинский (учебники, приложения или другие ресурсы)!
Languages i am learning this year are korean , Italian and start Thai all just for the sake of interest and to enjoy them.
I also want to improve my English as much as i can it isn't my first language and yet i am pretty fluent and good and advanced but I still want to keep improving and learning ☺️
Anna I wish you the very joyful 2023 and thanks for motivating me for so long.
Also I wanted to share a little something that these last days of the year were not too good for me (i am okay now)but whenever I wanted to relax,i had your voice in the background which really distressed me..
Happy new year once again ....
~xoxo
Wishing you the best, I hope you are doing well now :)
Same I already know Spanish and I’m learning French and Italian this year the best advice for you for all three of these languages are focus on Conjugation and Grammar.
Estaré esperando un video de tu rutina diaria o rutina de aprendizaje, me gustaría ver como te organizas :)
( as one of your french followers, i really support you for learning my language!! )
Hey I’m learning Russian and I find really cool your idea to do a vlog I hope you’ll have a great time learning all this languages 😊
You are so inspiring! I've started learning spanish a year a go but i wasnt very motivationed. But after I found your socials I became soooo consistent with my languages goals and I got my spanish on next level
THANK YOU
I also start my portuguese lessons because Im moving to Portugal next week (and I also start my youtube channel - everything on in life just moved on and you were one of the inspirations THANK YOU AGAIN :DD)
you keep me so motivated to learn languages so thank you 🙏🙏 this year my focus is french (since i have my a-levels this year and i'm going to be studying french at uni), and also picking up korean and spanish!
I think a lot of people choose Harry Potter because it's so popular which means that it was likely translated into their TL
i'm looking forward to more language content from you in 2023 ! my goal is to feel almost as comfortable speaking spanish as i do in english
I love your videos! I'd love to see you talking about how you study, the things you do to practice when you're B2/C1, how do you study?
hey, Anna! :)
I just wanna thank you for being so open minded about Brazilian people and language.
💗💗💗 if we ever meet, we can do a little language exchange in all the languages we share in common 😆
are you learning Russian language?
Good luck with your language learning! For 2023 I am sticking with Japanese and Spanish, with my main focus being Japanese. I really want to learn to read the basics (hiragana and katakana words/sentences) and learn some (like a 100?) kanji. Starting to review what I so far have learned of hiragana today! :)
Love this video, I have a lot of language goals myself, thank you for making these videos 🙏💖
U're really a source of positivity, love ya !😔💕
tbh I wanna hear how u speak on these languages. Because it's really interesting to hear your accent and your successes!
Hey, good luck learning Ukrainian :)
I am Ukrainian and I can tell you that this language is really really beautiful.
Ankiweb has a great premade vocab deck for Ukrainian for beginners, and you can always edit the cards into Russian as you go if they're in English or vice versa.
im excited for u to come to Brazil :) hope u can learn portuguese soon! u inspire me alot! ill focus on italian this year but ill take some time for spanish as well, and of course improve my english, hopefully getting to C1 in it
Gracias por compartir tu video. Amo el mundo de los idiomas. Le français est une langue très intéressante. Je l’adore. Meu no me é Otávio e sou Brasileiro. I am a languages lover. Thanks for sharing this content. Happy new year!
omg!! I did a French study abroad at L'Alliançe Française Paris and it was phenomenal! If you are looking for a language school whilst living abroad I cannot recommend it enough mwah!
I love when you speak about languages! For 2023 I'm studying English, Spanish and Korean (I'm French). I hope you pick Korean again in 2024 ? Anyway happy new year Anna, lots of love 💜
18:24 Oh yes, I've also noticed that, I was in a bilingual (Polish & English) department while in middle and highschool and I remember at least 3 students carring their Harry Potter books in English haha
Also my that type of book is The Hunger Games!
Anna !! Please make an anki tour as well and how to start as well . Love you and your content 💖
I'm also learning french and russian this year!! lets gooo ^-^ looking forward to your videos!
i will be looking forward to all your french learning related videos!! good luck with everything
this video rlly helped me because surprisingly I am learning the EXACT same languages as you. I hope I can improve in 2023!!
I’m a new subscriber and am loving these planning videos. I’m focusing on learning Spanish and German in 2023 and I may dabble a bit with Russian by learning the alphabet. Here’s to 2023 guys!!🎉
Ты супер, всё получится❤
Just discovered your channel and I immediately subscribed, I personally find it very interesting and motivational! ❤ Great job! I'm a polyglot too and I make video stories in Italian to help people improve their Italian, I think context really help to reach fluency and the goal you mentioned is really amazing! Being able to read a whole book in Italian is definitely a great achievement.
было бы очень интересно посмотреть видео на русском от тебя, удачи в изучении
У неё есть такие видео
Так, звичайно било би дуже цикаво. :)
I'm planning to live in Paris for the month of April and visit Florence for a few days! ☺
Love your language learning goals for this year. I have some goals as well and this video helped me stay motivated. Thanks a lot!
I love your drive! very inspiring :)
Waiting for your Russian videos! Russian is one of the languages I'm learning this year so I'm very excited for you to do that.
haha me too, im reading harry potter in french and I'm planning to read it in English next
I love your videos, I'm excited to see you learning Portuguese hahaha. Happy new year from Brazil 🇧🇷
Вау, какая же ты умная, очень вдохновляешь, учу английский 😅
My goals are
- finish Damon’s beginner French course
- finish learning 600 most common French words
- start weekly journaling in French
- finish Damon’s intermediate Spanish course
- start weekly Spanish speaking practice
- find out more about living in/ moving to Spain 🤭
I studied french for about 13 years in school BUT I never used it while speaking so I understand everthing I read / hear but I can't express myself in it. So it's my goal this year to speak french and practise it as much as possible because at the end of 2023 i'll do TCF (which is a test to know your level in french) I know Im at level B1 now but I hope I get to B2/C1 at the end of this year.
Lol i do that thing with the 1st harry potter book. Idk it's probably because it makes me feel confident in a language bc i know every word my heart so when i read in another language i know what it says even if i don't actually know anything
