And to any of you that don't have the money for RTX and stuff like that, just a bit of a heads up from someone who still builds systems in 2023 using these cards, the 1070Ti is a little monster of a card and as of May 2023 these cards can be found for as low as $100, so have at it. It's been known to beat RTX 2060's and even higher in some cases. Do your research and try not to buy a Mining slave that's had a really rough life, check it's thermals it may need a re-paste soon and enjoy =)

no, thats the 1080, let me explain, memory performance is more importat at high res, therefore a 1080 will be better for 1440p, and a 1080 ti 4k, the 1070 is optimal for 144hz 1080p (obiously a 1080ti will do better but, bang for the buck goes to 1070 ti) the 1080 was a 1080p 144hz no compromises or 1440p with some future, it struggled at 4k not by much but is was a little underpowered, the 1070 ti was a great value, substaintially cheaper than 1080 and closer in performance, now than rtx is coming the 1070 ti is a great second hand gpu as it CANT be too old since its relatively new, so getting one at 300$ is just, deal

Meanwhile back at home base they are sitting on the next generation Volta cards waiting for the previous product cycle to die off in sales so they can release volta in an expensive "premium" form, that will dominate until sales slow at which point they will release Volta ti making the previous premium card obsolete, rinse and repeat. Basically they are selling you the same card over and over and then releasing a new card that they will sell to you over and over.
I just wish AMD could figure out how to properly test their voltages, my RX580 runs great as long as it's clocked down 100mhz. I hear this is the same for VEGA too.

Its to compete with Vega mostly. Strategic release of the card right before the Christmas holidays with comparable market prices means that the 1070ti will likely regain (the very small) market share lost when Vega was released. Also, gotta get value out of those binned GPU's.
No, its purely a marketing strategy. Nvidia really couldn't care less about what we think unless it results in drops in market share (i.e. we start preferring Radeon, which won't be happening anytime soon and they know it). This is from the opinion of someone who bought a 1080 (but I got it 50% off, not MSRP).

cut them some slack, probably a simple editing mistake. Also, in that case, the 97th percentile being higher than the average is correct, as it means that that number is bigger than 97% of the other data.

The thing is, maybe nvidia wanted miners to buy up this card, think of it, it's got everything that miners need and it lacks GDDR5X, which is completely pointless for them. Also the power efficiency is higher, a very important thing for miners. Also, they don't look at the best graphics card, they just buy the cheapest, so where's the point in clocking board partners' cards higher. They had spare 1080 chips laying around and didn't want miners to rise the 1080's prices. I think AMD also did this but with the 460.
Thus, I get to thank Nvidia because the seller of my card swapped in a 1070Ti for it lol
The Blender benchmarks look strange. Using latest Blender version and proper tile settings I got 40 secs on a GTX 1070 for the BMW scene with 2 cars. What version are you using and what are the settings or file name of the BMW benchmark?
