And ultimately surpassed them. 40 years after Yes’s first album I saw them playing in a parking lot in Maryland. 41 years after Rush’s first album I saw them play two sold out shows at the Air Canada arena in Toronto. Not even close.

@@michaelhogan6770 ok-Wake is better than Geddy on keyboards. Geddy blows Squire away on bass. Geddy consistently received best bassist awards when Squire was alive. Geddy is every bit as good as Anderson singing. In fact, he has a much better range. And as far as lyrics, Neil is number 1 and number 2, whoever that might be, is miles away. I do love your passion for Yes. I have loved them too for over 40 years. Rush just happens to be the best. It’s like comparing Dr. J to Jordan😀. BTW-as people, no band even comes close to Rush. Steve Howe is a total piece of S for not letting Anderson back into his own band. Anderson, Wakeman, and White are salt of the Earth people. How Howe can kidnap a band that he didn’t even create is beyond me. He also can’t sing to save his life. You know who else can’t sing? Neil😀. So he doesn’t. He leaves the singing up to the singers, unlike Howe😀. All good tho mate. I can see you have great taste in music🤘

Holy MOLEEE!! Jon Anderson never ceases to amaze me! Not only was he able to stay on key, but his voice just transcends over all the beautiful noise going on around him! Over two drummers, two guitar players and two keyboard players. AND over the pure insanity that is Chris Squire’s bass playing...un-fing-believable.
Hey you two, this was during Yes reunion tour where they got most all of current and former members together on one stage- hence you have two drummers, 2 guitarists, 2 keyboardists.

In fact, the sound you heard at the beginning and said it was a guitar, was the bass sound of the legendary Chris Squire
hands down my all time favorite Yes song, this live version just elevates it to a whole new level; thanks guys !!!!
This is from the Union Tour. The band had broken up and hooked up with new people so two new bands were formed. They were working on different new albums but kept asking each other to play with them on certain songs. Eventually the record label kind of forced them to combine all the completed songs into one album they called Union. Then they all went on tour together. Apparently only some of the people on stage were actually playing. Rick Wakeman always calls it the Onion tour because remembering it makes him cry.
I was at this show. Denver, May 9th, 1991. Epic. "Union" tour where they got most of their past and current members together. It was awesome. Normally YES are just a 5-piece band.

Steve Howe very under rated lead guitarist...one of the best not to mention the late Chris Squire...YES..one of the best PROGRESSIVE ROCK BANDS of all time.

That was the union tour which had current yes members and ex members. So tony Kaye and rick, drummer Buford and white. Guitarists rabin and Howe.
That amongst others was a masterpiece, I have loved it since 1977
Great reaction. One minor point tho, these guys weren't 'jamming' this was a composed, arranged piece with every note written for every instrument.

The "Union" tour combined Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman, and Howe with the current Yes lineup. Tony Kaye had rejoined Yes; he shares the stage here with keyboardist Rick Wakeman, who had replaced him. Trevor Rabin, who was the Yes vocalist at the time, appears along with Jon Anderson. Eight guys from Yes up to that point.
The two drummers were Bill Bruford and Alan White, each with the band for quite awhile.
Saw Yes 2 weeks ago and they played this might not have been as good as this as they’ve aged , left or passed away but boy it was still beautiful to hear

Olde Yes had two drummers and and 3 KBs at different times. I saw it in Orlando and Portland, OR.

I saw YES on this tour at the old ARCO Arena in Sacramento, CA. With both inceptions of YES, in the Round, was simple phenomenal.

Guys if this is your first time exposed to YES, then please, please , please react to “Roundabout” then you will appreciate the real YES. These guys are the kings of transitions, the album “Close To The Edge” is a 30 minute heart attack.

Yes deserved to be in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame one of the greatest bands I have ever seen and also to add Emerson Lake and Palmer or not in the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame think about that for a minute
The grandfathers of symphonic rock. Bought Yessongs when i was 12 or 13 i think (i'm 56) and then listened "Close the Edge" every day after school again and again. With 16 i met a new friend who was also a big Yes fan and then each day the first question was "Close to the Edge", "Gates of Delerium" or which side of Tales of Topographic Oceans to listen to first.
Oh yeah, those are all 20 minutes songs btw. so they had a few more of them than Nightwish 😉
My tip : Close to the Edge next.

Actually, the grandfathers of symphonic rock would be Emerson, Lake , and Palmer. Yes was unknown in America until they toured as the opening act of ELP in the early 70's. When Yes first formed, they tried to get Keith Emerson to leave ELP to become the keyboardist for Yes.
@@gregoryeverett9811 Guess thats a hard discussion, Yes was founded 1968 and ELP 1970, but maybe Yes just really started with "symphonic rock" with their 1971 albums, but i don't really know how symphonic the first ELP album was.
But known in the US is absolute no measure, because then maybe some HipHop band or a band that will be founded 2030 would be more important to Symphonic Metal than Nightwish.
@@beldin2987 You do make a valid point. I'm a big fan of both groups. I suggest you give Take a Pebble a listen, an absolute master work on the piano. If you're looking for something symphonic, try Jerusalem. Please tell me what you think. I'm 63 and I have 2 older sisters so I grew up on the classic rock of the 60's and 70's. I had classically trained parents. My father was a concert tenor and my mother played string bass in the orchestra. Because of that I tend to gravitate towards the more symphonic side of rock and roll.
@@gregoryeverett9811 I had never heard that Yes tried to get Emerson to join. Maybe they tried to when they decided to fire Tony Kaye in 1971 after their third album. They couldn't have tried to poach him from ELP when they formed in June 1968, Emerson was with The Nice at that time.

Yes, 2 drummers!! Bill Bruford was the Yes drummer through the Close to the Edge album in 1972, but left the band right before the tour. Alan White, the other drummer, became the drummer for the tour and then the official drummer for the band. This clip is from Yes's Union tour where past and present members came together for an album and tour. By the way, Alan White was the drummer on John Lennon's "Imagine". I saw Yes on the Close to the Edge tour in 1973, and they performed this! I've seen Yes many times over the years, most recently Jon Anderson, Rick Wakeman, and Trevor Rabin of Yes and their band in 2016 at the Austin City Limits Theater. Singer Jon Anderson is now in his 70s and still hit all the high notes perfectly! And yes, they performed "Heart of the Sunrise" perfectly that night too!!
That was the Union tour with most members of Yes participated... I was at that concert.. actually I saw them 12 times that year.

Nostalgic and fun to see all past members (up to that point anyway) on stage together. I’m not an original lineup purist. I appreciate all versions of the band for their own creative beauty and strengths. I love the early stuff of course. It made them who they are (gods of prog rock). My dad got me the “Classic Yes” best of album for Christmas as a 15 year old budding bassist in 1984 and my music world was unalterably expanded from there. I also picked up the iconic 90125 album about the same time. Between the two... mind blown. So of course I had to go back and explore more of their early stuff to catch up. I’m jealous of the fans old enough to have gotten in on the ground floor. Just an amazing collection of talent on stage there. I’d encourage you to check out 9012 LIVE as well Trevor Rabin’s Solly’s Beard (guitar solo) is a masterpiece. Also, Jon Anderson’s vocals on “Soon” are as good as anything else he’s done. And Chris Squire’s version of Amazing Grace on the bass, while not flashy, is moving and passionately powerful. I also recommend that anyone interested in hearing more of Yes, begin with the studio version of their songs (starting with Roundabout - as many have suggested here) and then you can appreciate their live stuff on another level. Also, I HIGHLY recommend listening to 90125 straight through with headphones (amazingly clean production values and great stereo separation). It will change your life.

Fuck. I'm 65 yrs old and still this song brings chills. I saw them in Nov. 1972, . I thumbed 78 miles in a rain to see them after I had bought The Fragile lp 2 days prior. I was a senior in highskool. I got there right at of the opening =WILD TURKEY" was going off the stage. Then the lights came on. I was scoping the crowed looking for a ride home after the concert, then I heard a guy from art class yelled " Hey, Zoro get over here. ",,, Cool . They made room, one girl give me a big swig of wine and my buddy handed me my first doobbie. Wow about 30 mins into Yes I couldn't tell if they were dudes or chicks. All those frilly clothes and laser show. been a YES fan ever since. I had seen Sabbath 3 weeks prior with Wild Turkey. I saw Sabbath on their first American tour and a few yrs ago I saw them on their last. COMPLETE CIRCLE... .

After my first girlfriend left me, My buddy Tony picked me up and drove all over the Marin Headlands while listening to this song. He did this with me for days until I was able to move on. This was 35 years ago. Life-changing moments from our youths.
Chris Squire is the only bassist that I would nudge above Geddy Lee as the best in the world. It was great that Geddy got to sit in when Yes was inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame.

They was not 'jamming' they are all YES. All of them, at same stage they was part of YES, for this reason that particular tour and the double live LP was called UNION.
Yes is typically a five piece but the band had their share of personnel changes over the years and the more commercial 80's version was brought together with members from the more Progressive version of the band for the "Union" album and tour so it was kind of a crowded stage with like eight people instead of the typical five members. Rick Wakeman typically surrounds himself with keyboards. He is a master of his craft as well with some classic solo albums along the progressive/classical vein. His themed albums of "The Six Wives of Henry VIII", "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table" are my favorites.
Steve Howe (from Tomorrow--"My White Bicycle") had replaced Peter Banks, who went on to the very Yes-like "Flash".
