      I bought my 1023e last summer and I mow very hilly terrain. This switch has almost killed me several times. I cussed Deere EVERY time I mowed. I wonder how many deaths it has caused. Dead men cannot tell tales, but I bet it has killed people. I fully understand killing the PTO, but killing the engine with a hydrostatic machine with power steering? That is fucking dumb.

    I was so depressed when I first mowed with my new 1023E. I realized I could not back up while mowing (to make turns) - making the mower almost worthless. Holding the PTO switch was distracting and I did not always remember to do this until the mower died. This modification was easy and now we love our new mower! Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for this. My PTO switch is wore out at 130 hours from constantly pulling the button out! Bet the second switch lasts a lot longer!

    Thank You. Got-R-Done. And the seat. I actually pulled the switch lose. Found it too hard to try to get the zip lock on where it was. Plus I wrapped it with a little tape and then used another zip lock to tie it down out of the way.

      I just ordered one yesterday, I may end up getting a 2019 due to the wait time from Deere as the dealer did not have a TLB in stock.
      I presume your machine is a 2018, or is it older than this one in the video as it was posted in 2016.

      Thanks. I have a late model too and was wondering if this would work. I removed the two bolts holding the switch and rather than bolting it back up, strapped the closed switch to the bundle of cables below. That way, the vinyl tie didn't get worn through over time.

    Thanks for the video, my husband Dennis will go outside and do just that now. Ours is a new 1025R and both of us hated the fact that it keeps shutting off the mower. We learned to hold the switch down in order to back up and keep mower running. It's still a pain in the you know where and every now and then we forgot to hold the switch down when backing up. Husband wants to use it as a stump grinder, bush hogging among a few other things and holding the switch is not an option.

      well thank you for watching our video, so glad to help. just be careful and enjoy the less frustration, we wish you all the best and many years of service from your tractor. yes in my opinion the switch is more hassle than it's worth and causes extra wear and tear when forgotten and you have to keep starting the blades or attachment etc.. thanks again you are great

    OK, the job took 22 minutes, but I put a small washer with double sided tape on the button with the other sticky side on the zip tie.. The zip ties were quite narrow and the button is slightly rounded. I wanted to be sure the zip tie did not slip to one side and off the button. Also, on the 2018 model, the bolts are a #12 metric (instead of #10). Be sure to hold down the differential lock lever when putting the cover back on, and continue holding down to get the Phillips head screw started as the spring on the lever is fairly strong and pushes the cover out of alignment. Again, GREAT VIDEO, and thank you very much.

    This not a boring video but very informative for sure. I've always wondered if the employments of any kind would shut off while in reverse & if they kept running. The mower deck especially need to stay running in reverse just for the simple fact that mowing is also done in reverse.
    I plane on purchasing a 1025R in the new future so this will be very useful for sure. Thankya for sharing this video

      @@TonyCampCamppartyof4 Howdy. & you're welcome.1st of all, its amwazing to see my comment to ya from 4yrs ago. . . WOW! 2nd, i went ahead & bought me a new 1025R in august of 2017 & it came as the FILB package deal. Got a set of Frontier pallet forks with the deal. The following spring of 2018, i bought a rear, 6ft blade for it. 3rd, after fighting & fighting & fighting with the mower deck shuting off in reverse mode (i never knew about pulling up the PTO knob a bit further to bypass "shutdoff"mode) i finally found your video again & i did the exact same thing as you showed. Works absolutly wonderful!!! I dont have to worry about the mower deck shutting off when in reverse & i've also bypassed the electricle connection wire under the seat as well because there are times when i had to stand up from my seat to look over the front of the tractor for whatever reason, & the engine would shut off. 4th, Ive also extended the all the side control levers, the engine throttle lever, & the backhoe & outrigger levers all for easier reach of things. I need to still do the same for the seat adjustment lever. I've got close to 900 hrs on the tractor with alot of backhoe work done. No i just need the new HYDROPLUS hydralic pump instled for faster moment of the hydraulics. Thanks again for your video. Tractor safe!

  • @powerwizard8903
    @powerwizard8903 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks, I'm in total agreement with you...My last encounter with the RIO on a hill shut down my engine and I coasted backwards to near oblivion before being able to stop the tractor...Just one more unintended consequence that JD engineers didn't fully think through. The RIO engine stop feature introduces more dangerous outcomes from loss of hydraulic and motive power than it prevents! John Deere: Why didn't you not just disengage the attachment PTO??? ...Guess the JD engineer never actually used the tractor on a hill! :(

    Lucky I got my 2320 prior to them putting this switch on. But I have to disable the butt in the seat switch around this time of year. The foam in the seat becomes too rigid in the cold to register my dainty 260# booty. So I jump out the connector beneath the seat with a homemade spade connector and remove the jumper in the spring.

      I refer to people such as yourself, as "good will ambassadors" who spend the time to help others for no personal gain. I am currently doing as much online investigation into the 1025R as I can. I am downsizing from a compact L3130 Kubota and looking hard at the JD instead of the Kubota BX (front loader, mid-mount mower, and tiller only). I've nothing but great performance from my larger Kubota, which makes me reluctant to switch brands. Any additional thoughts from you on these two tractors? Thanks, Rick

    THis is some good information. I have a 1025R but I just have a back blade and the drong bucket for snow. I have been looking for a snow thrower for it. Where did you get yours? Or who makes them? I just moved to the mountains. Talk about snow!

      Dave Engstrom glad it helped man good choice on tractors we've never had any big issues with ours. I bought the snow thrower through the dealership when I bought the tractor it's a John Deere snow thrower. We've been hit pretty hard this winter but I'm staying ahead of it with this Beast

      You can also get a rear cat 1 blower from Deere or other makes such as Woods.
      Pros and cons on a rear blower, but the front blower has a very long shaft to run the blower.

    I just ordered a TLB so I may be getting a 2019, I wonder if the 2018’s have the same switch since the dash switch is different for 18 than it was for 17

    Does this mod allow you to get off the tractor while it’s in gear?

      No, I believe you are thinking of the seat switch located underneath the seat.

    A guy could wire in a switch that'd do the same thing. Just an idea so you'd have an option for safety when using other PTO attachments.

      Put something between the button and the zip tie maybe that will help, cardboard, scrap wood piece, or a drop of super glue maybe?

    But that PTO switch is connected to a relay! Wont be long before the relay blows!

      thanks for watching and for your comment, what does that relay control? what would make it blow if its not being activated?

    Gotta love idiotic rules and regulations... like the gas-can one where it's supposed to suck the fumes back into the can. Problem is, the cans are made so poorly that they leak a good amount of fuel, so now you're polluting the air AND the ground. That said, pulling up on the PTO button actually makes the problem worse by making people new to the tractor (and thus more likely to cause an accident) look for the button, then restricts how far they can turn around because they have to keep holding onto it. Additionally, I have an uncle AND a family friend that both have old neck injuries that restrict neck movement, so they have to turn their torso to look backwards enough, and this switch restricts that, for them. When a safety "solution" makes a problem worse, it shouldn't be implemented and a new solution should be found. As always, the many suffer due to the stupidity of the few. I'll probably be doing this if I manage to save enough for my own snowblower, this winter (would be my first PTO attachment for my 1026r). Thanks for the video!

      Zurar awesome comment man , seems like you get it. Was such a hastle before . Doing this also keeps the deck on when backing up which is a great help if you have no worry of small kids running around the yard while you're mowing. Thanks for watching

    There is a plug connector on the front of the tractor you are supposed to plug-in when you hook up the snowblower so you don't have to use the zip tie.

    • @TonyCampCamppartyof4
      @TonyCampCamppartyof4  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Santino Castillo this works for mowing and snowblowing so it's more permanent until you remove the zip ties. I was more frustrated when mowing more than anything. thanks for the comment

      It's more of an issue when you have 1-5 acres and you get tired or touching pto every time you back up . Cheers

    Or you could just buy a Kabota BX and not have deal with that crap. BX doesn't have any of that electromagnetic PTO stuff. It's still a real tractor with hydraulic PTO engagement. I like the looks of the John Deere but I think they cheapened them up with too much of the plastic and the pto engagement bottom.
