    For any Hal Jordan fans who are aware of his pre Geoff Johns run and want to know how he got in the position of being The Spectre should REALLY check: "Zero Hour: Crisis in Time", "The Final Night" & "Day of Judgement". In that order which you can find all 3 trades pretty cheaply.

    The New 52 GL series was something that really got me into comic books when it was around. Recently I’ve been going back and reading stuff between issues 80-130 of the Kyle Rayner era and he’s definitely the most interesting Lantern to me from what I’ve read.

    Oh yeah. Green lantern was one of my most wanted where to starts. Love watching this series and discovering new books. In the future maybe do Aquaman( in time for the film), Green arrow or Teen Titans.

    The fact you didn't venture any earlier than the mid-'90s with the expected exception of "Hard Traveling Heroes" is ... kinda sad. Personally, I would HEARTILY recommend to any newcomer to the GL mythos the 3-volume "Green Lantern: Sector 2814" trade paperbacks and the accompanying 3-volume "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps" trade paperbacks. Those stories from the '80s introduce pretty much ALL of the concepts modern writers have pulled from - John Stewart taking over as Earth's GL, Stewart's romance with Katma Tui, the re-introduction of Guy Gardner, the introduction of Kilowog, Carol Ferris/Star Sapphire, Hal and Arisia, Mogo, etc, etc. Additionally, I would recommend the early-'90s limited series "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn" and "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II," which can both be found in the "Green Lantern: Hal Jordan: Volume One" trade paperback, as the best modern-day origin story for Hal Jordan.

    Another great video, Marcus. I have the three Johns Omnis; do you think I *need* any other books to understand the full story? The Uncanny Omar's reading order was a bit intimidating, lol.
    I myself have the Deluxe version of GL/GA because I just couldn't see myself getting that particular Absolute when it's so much more expensive.

    My favorite Lantern is Jon Stewart. I got to know the character thru the Justice League cartoon series. I feel like I know him way better than Hal Jordan.
    All I really know about Hal (and I might know more than I think) is that he’s fearless and apparently a rebel. The movie did him no favors. I don’t even think Ryan Reynolds was miscast; I just think he was given a crappy script and was told to just act cool. “ The audience will love it!” 🤪

    Late to the party, but I had to say that Patrick Gleason is the artist on Green Lantern Corps with Tomasi and his art is pretty great! Plus, the whole space cop procedural with Guy and Kyle is too notch. Gleason went on to do Batman and Robin, Superman, and The Amazing Spidrr-Man. Big leagues now!

    But Maddogg, John Stewart was supposed to appear. But the silly higher ups at Warner bros wouldn't let Snyder put him in because they wanted their own version in a tv show( which still hasn't been done.🤷). So thats why we got Martian Manhunter instead. He even filmed a cameo scene which had a picture online if you are interested.
    Did I mention I mostly love the Snyder cut. We cannot agree on everything though.😄

    If I just want to get 3-4 trades/dlx books for a brief Green Lantern collection with emphasis on origin, would Secret Origin, Flash/Lantern Brave and Bold, JLA: Year One, and Rebirth be good selections? I already have Morrison's JLA Vol 1 and Tower of Babel for my Batman collection.

    I’ve always been a fan of superheroes and comic book characters but haven’t really been much of a reader until the beginning of this year. Your videos have been a big help when deciding some places to start! I was also just thinking about reading some Green Lantern, so this came at the perfect time😄 I am wondering if you have any recommendations for John Stewart. I know he hasn’t received much love in the comics but still wanted to know if there are any runs or team based books he has been a part of.

    • @SpiritOfBagheera
      @SpiritOfBagheera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Stewart was first introduced in the O'Neil/Adams run often titled "Hard Traveling Heroes," which can be found in trade paperback, hardcover, etc. However, Stewart was really only in the one issue in which he was introduced. The "meat" for John Stewart fans and the source for the writers of the Justice League animated series can be found in the Englehart run of Green Lantern from the '80s. Those issue were collected in the 3-volume "Green Lantern: Sector 2814" trade paperbacks and continue with the 3-volume "Tales of the Green Lantern Corps" trade paperbacks that collect back-up strips and eventually the '80s Green Lantern Corps comic series.
      IMHO, those '80s comics cannot be beat. I'd also suggest tracking down the early '90s limited series "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn" and "Green Lantern: Emerald Dawn II," which were collected together in the "Green Lantern: Hal Jordan: Volume One" trade paperback. (There never was a Volume Two.) But please understand these stories do not feature Stewart; I just find them to be excellent origin stories for the Green Lantern with amazing art from M.D. Bright.

      Interestingly enough, some of the best Gardner and Rayner stories can be found in Justice League runs. The first few years of the '80s comic "Justice League"/"Justice League International" by DeMatteis/Giffen/Maguire feature Gardner at his absolute best while Morrison's '90s "JLA" series really shines a fantastic spotlight on Rayner. Personally, I find both of these characters were at their best with the League rather than flying solo or hanging with the Green Lantern Corps.

    Can you do a where to start.Iron Fist or Nightcrawler?

    • @SpiritOfBagheera
      @SpiritOfBagheera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Iron Fist? Easy. "Epic Collection: Fury of Iron Fist" (intro and stories from the '70s) and "Immortal Iron Fist: Complete Collection" (more modern stories from the '00s) trade paperbacks for solo action. And then you can look into the three Epic Collections for "Power Man/Iron Fist" that collect the character's '80s team ups with Luke Cage. There is also a black and white collection called "Iron Fist: Deadly Hands of Kung Fu: Complete Collection" that showcases some magazine tales from the '70s.
      Nightcrawler? This one's a bit tougher, as there is just SO MUCH material out there. But you could start with either the "Uncanny X-Men Omnibus 1" or "Epic Collection: Second Genesis" for the character's '70s introduction by Wein and Claremont. Or you could possibly just jump ahead with "Excalibur Omnibus 1" or "Epic Collection: The Sword is Drawn" for the character's beginnings with Excalibur (Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat, Rachel Grey/Phoenix, Brian Braddock/Captain Britain, and Meggan) from the late '80s. Both are fantastic jumping on points for Nightcrawler.
