After watching this video, I thought great idea but was hesitant about it being made out of plastic. After a fews months of thinking about it and the chaos of my mountain of seeds I bought one and I’m so glad I did, it’s brilliant 👍
I have no idea why TH-cam threw this video at me today as its a tear old already! But I'm so pleased and thank you for the idea Tanya. I've bought one of these organisers and look forward to getting organised! I've sent the clip link to my sister in London who is also interested. I had to smile as I've been using exactly the same takeaway boxes for my seeds. Thanks fur all your inspiring videos 😊 Vincent
I didn't know it was called a photo organizer 🤣 I've had one for 10+ years for organizing and traveling with my jewelry! I have a flat piece of squishy foam in the bottom of each container, and then I put or wrap the jewelry on it, with a small layer of bubble wrap over it so it doesn't move. I also put in those little anti-moist packets into each. When I move house, like you, I put three pieces of tape on the top so it doesn't open accidentally. And when I travel for work or anything, I just take out the box I need for the outfit and put it into my suitcase. It's amazing how many uses there are for that thing! Well worth the investment 🥰
I purchased one of these seed storage organizers from a local retailer. I had a 40% off coupon, so it only cost me about $15.00. It is great for organizing my seed collection. Thanks for the tip.
I wasn't sure about the box for seeds as my usual shortbread tins are easy to use but you've made it look so neat and compact I'm tempted! Glad your house move is progressing in the way you want. How many of us have walked away from favourite plants because we just didn't ask the buyer if they were significant to them...so glad you are wiser and can take some of your favourites with you. God bless you and your partner and may you have a really lovely Christmas. Love from Northern Ireland.
I've been using that photo box for about a year and just LOVE it! I have one box for perennial flowers and 2 boxes of annual flowers A-Z because I have so many. It's so easy to find the ones you're looking for when you start seeding in the spring or late winter if winter sowing in jugs. It seems you always have more room to buy more seeds (that's the problem with the boxes). I use a Brother label maker that way you can remove labels and change if needed
Oh, YAY! You get to take your favorite plants! And, thanks for sharing the seed storage, it looks wonderful. My seeds need this. Can't wait to see your new space.
So happy about the plants! I think the buyer may end up gardening but maybe wants to do it their way. Either way, I'm pleased that my plants are coming with :) Also -- the storage container is the bomb!
I have been using the colored photo boxes for a while. I use label maker for tags. I have really like this method and the boxes fit perfectly in garden cabinet. Also, if you have a Michaels craft supply (US), their storage goes on great sales often and you can use coupons.
YES...so exciting. I keep poring over the photos of the garden I have on my phone and dreaming about what I'd like to grow. Thanks, Tony and I hope that you're well :)
I keep looking at that storage container for my seeds and have been putting to the bottom of my want/need list for over a year now maybe it should be my Christmas to me gift this year lol.
I purged a lot of my seeds a few years back. Im working on saving seeds each year and I have them in packets so this is perfect for me. Im going to get one. Thanks! They even have a color coded one.
Looking for Elephant garlic a long time, your new seed box is great! Love your videos. Wish you a good start at your new place. Blessings from Germany 🎄
I like your photo organizer idea! I use a Clear Plastic Shoe Organizer with 24 pouches and hangs on a door. But I have other seeds I could store in a photo organizer...thanks for the idea!
Yes I have the same! :) the only thing is I cant store big bulky seeds in it. I also write on the side of it to know what type of seeds are in it. I just want to say that when I bought it it was around $20 in Amazon, now I just looked at the price and it’s almost doubled in price at around $40.
'I have too many seeds' said no gardener. I had all my seed in a shoebox. I purchased 3 photo organizers and a label maker. I use paperclips to seal the packages. Now I'm not buying seeds that I already have and using the older seeds first. Great system, definitely recommend it.
If you have so many hanging out that they're not getting used when they should, then they should probably be passed on 🙂 That's why I organize a local annual seed swap
Great video and an awesome storage idea...I am too thrifty for this and use a very large zip lock bag into which I put smaller Ziploc bags with the seeds in them. It works out pretty well and I have been using the same bags for years! BUT that being said that is a pretty snazzy storage solution! 😄 Mike 👍
I just keep my seed packets in a variety of brown paper bags, seed tins, etc in a cool bedroom. They seem to have a good rate of germination for years after. I don't have your organisation though! they are a bit of a jumble, though I do try to keep the same types of seeds together. I have enough seeds to 'sink a ship' like many people with allotments I suppose.
I got the two-box pack from Santa last year. It is a bit pricey but I LOVE it, keeps my ever growing collection of seeds so organized! There are some seeds (the larger types like beans) that will quickly fill up a box, so you might still want to hold on to your takeout containers for those of you don't want to use up two boxes. Also for flowers, I have about 4 boxes reserved and I store them by letter range - eg A-F, G-L etc. But ya, overall, a truly excellent investment if you can afford it. Put it on your Santa list, and stop dealing with those ugly show boxes and tubs.
Wahoo I bought two of these after seeing Tony C Smiths video. I bought one clear one and one coloured one, there a little expensive but they are brilliant. Happy new year and all the best for the growing seasons ahead. G&B Allotments 😉
I look at your setup and think, I need a 5 foot tall filing cabinet to hold all of mine, maybe I need to settle down on my seed saving. I currently have 3 large tomato boxes full and 2 shelves of glass jars all with seeds.
@@Lovelygreens Yes, I have only been REALLY gardening and seed saving for the last two years(since I lost my job of 10 years), but I have found that separating my seeds, not only by tolerance of weather(living in Southern California), vegetable, edible flowers, herbs, fruit, needing pollination/not needing, and that sort of thing(have you noticed yet that I am SLIGHTLY OCD?), that this helps me keep things in order. I LOVE THESE BOXES!!
You can make them yourself too and its much, much cheaper that way. Here's how: lovelygreens.com/how-to-make-diy-ollas-low-tech-self-watering-systems-for-plants/
If you would like to do labels just using a Sharpie or similar, it is easy to erase using 99% isopropyl alcohol (70% does not work). For a question -- what do you do with seed packets where germination is fading due to age? My frugal mindset is to just attempt to germinate lots of them until I have none left, but maybe it is more efficient to just give up on them at some point..
I've literally made labels based on the number of seeds I have for different categories. Brassicas are all crammed together (and just fit) but I have so many flower seeds that I've split them up into 'Flowers' and 'Medicinals'. I almost have enough to have an 'Edible Flowers' container too. I think when it comes to organizing seeds, that it will be unique to the individual, but basic vegetable types will be a good place to start: brassicas, alliums, legumes, solanaceae, cucurbitaceae, greens, root veg, etc
Look around at your local options if you like the idea as they won't be expensive. As for plastic -- it's the type that will last a lifetime. Plastic isn't bad -- single use plastic is.

I'm really glad too! Such a simple thing to do, and the worst case scenario (a no) is no different than where you started.

Could be exactly what I need, I have them in several index card holders. This seems like a better solution. Thanks for sharing.

I get so frustrated looking for the seed packets come spring so ordered this system.
It's great that you have the time to sort out your seeds before moving.

Great video Tanya and I need to get my hands on that seed organiser.
Honestly, it's the bomb! Best gift to myself ever :) Well, aside from the Niwaki secateurs I indulged in over the summer :)
You have done such beautiful organization of seeds. Thank you for showing. I should learn to do this better. Happy holidays!!

I keep thinking about getting one of these for my seeds!
If you use a sharpie to label, you can wipe it off with a bit of rubbing alcohol if you change your mind! Much easier than fiddly labels.
Or nail varnish remover 💅
your seed addiction is like my yarn addiction 😂
Sadly/not sadly, I have both a seed AND yarn addiction...YIKES!!

Hi love your videos
Thank you!
I am from Erfurt :-D you have our Ringelblumen (Calendula) seeds, hurray!!!
Best calendula flower variety in my opinion 🙂
I use washi tape and write on that. The washi comes off cleanly if I decide to change it.
I saw this organizer on Melissa K. Norris-Modern Homesteading channel.
I think the first person to introduce it was Deanna from Homestead and Chill 🙂 It's become pretty popular since
If I were you I would leave a little box of seeds for your buyer to encourage him, LOL
Nope 😂 I save my extra seeds for our annual seed swap so that they'll go to someone that I'm sure will appreciate them.

I started out with a shoe box, then one for each type of plants. So now it takes ages to rifles through it all. Maybe it is time to upgrade.
Do you keep it in your refrigerator?
That chess set thoooooo.
...those photo boxes are sold out LOL - at least with shipping to Germany. So do I get the rainbow colored one or wait 😂
Do you have any other tip on organizations of box

First principle, don't save too many seeds.
Im not Greta Thunberg, but putting packaged seeds in bigger plastic boxes and all of them in a much bigger plastic boxes seems to me anything but not genious. What about organize seeds by ABC or in order of the date of planting simply in one or more used paper boxes?
Plastic that is long-lived has its place, and this is one of them. Single use plastic is the problem.
