@@TheJamesBondCountdown Now that I think about it, they should've replaced Moore after Moonraker... He was too old to continue on. I think Dalton would have been better...
LTK very much reflected the affairs of the world in the most possible subtle manner: With the Cold War drawing to an end, communist insurgents were no longer a threat to right-wing governments which had illegally funded the counterinsurgency forces using illicit drug money, Sanchez being an amalgam of the two notorious drug barons Manuel Norega and Pablo Escobar and his right hand Dario being a former enforcer of the CIA sponsored Contra. Bond in his quest for revenge bought down a narcotics empire stretching from Chile upto Canada(as Sanchez boasts) soon to enter Asian markets. Dalton, as usual, was the determined, tough overall brilliant Bond while Davi as Sanchez was simply outstanding coz imho, he was the most realistic Bond antagonist till then.
Personally I feel Tomorrow Never Dies is vastly underrated, largely because I felt that it was the first to update the conceptual elements of the Bond story in regards to modern context. Goldeneye's story was largely great because it felt like a perfect amalgam of Ian Flemming's previous story motifs and thematic elements, and fits alongside its predecessors seamlessly, but Tomorrow Never Dies almost feels like what a Bond novel might have been like if Ian Flemming was born 25 years later than he was. Mainly, the concept of Privately Owned Media to start international wars for a particular ultra-powerful civilian's endgame is something that didn't exist in the world during Flemming's time, but if he was writing in the late 90's, I imagine this type of notion would have caught his attention.
I'd also just add from a production standpoint, it was important for Barbara to really take the baton from her father and keep going (and succeeding). That's the movie that really catapulted Bond into the new post Cold War world.
Finally someone else who appreciates A View to A Kill. Killer soundtrack. Killer villain. Killer ending. I've always loved it. Not the best. But very enjoyable.
I agree with most everything about this ranking. I also believe, having watched this series since I was little, that no one inhabited the Bond suit any better than Connery. Yes, it was cheesy, yes it was (somewhat) one-dimensional, but not one of them said "Bond, James Bond" the way Connery did. I truly loved Brosnan (I thought he brought a lot of depth and machismo to the roles), mostly disliked Moore and was neither up or down about Dalton. However, until Casino Royale, I could not have been more blown away by Daniel Craig, and what he did for the role, AND the franchise. I totally agree that he made it his own, and the vulnerability he showed with the Vesper Lynd character was truly groundbreaking. Having seen Craig prior to him doing the role, I couldn't have imagined that someone (not so) classically handsome could have pulled it off, but I was dead wrong. Mads Mikkelsen as LeChiffre was BRILLIANT (one of my favorite actors) and the plot was shocking and believable, in equal measure. LONG LIVE JAMES BOND!!
Because I grew up in the 70's...I will always associate Roger Moore as THE James Bond. Second in line, would be Sean Connery, with Daniel Craig coming in thirdly. However...my favorite Bond films, start with Daniel Craig as Bond, with Roger Moore second, and Sean Connery third. That said...I love ALL of them, even George Lazenby's one time portrayal. Bond movies just take one into a world of intrigue, patriotism, and plain sleek coolness. As a 10 year old in 1977, and watching Roger Moore as Bond, was a thrilling world of escape, from the real world of drudgery. Every Bond movie I have watched since, still sends me to thay place of intrigue. Bond movies are simply marvelous. Just marvelous. With all of that said...I do recognize this video is not about the actor playing Bond, but each individual movie itself. At my age, it is just easier to remember the actors, than it is to remember each movie and its failings, or highlights. So I wrote my comment the way I did. ☀️😎☀️
When I was a boy of 7 or 8 in the mid '60s, my aunt took me to see a double feature: "From Russia With Love" and "Goldfinger." I was mesmerized. I had never seen anything like James Bond and I wanted to be just like him. I begged for the toy Bond briefcase from "With Russia With Love" and I got it for Christmas that year. James Bond became my role model. My father had extreme PTSD from his brutal WWII experiences and was not able to be much of a role model. Many decades later, only just recently because certain wartime documents were declassified, did I learn that my father had a role in an Ian Fleming commando operation during the war. My favorite Bond films are "From Russia With Love" and "For Your Eyes Only."
17:00 The World Is Not Enough is the underrated gem of the series. First female villain of the series, played masterfully by Sophie Marceau, Judi Dench's M is great and has more to do. And finally Pierce Brosnan channelled a lot of Dalton in this movie especially during the killing scenes, giving his best performance as Bond.
I'm glad to see the first three Brosnan films and Licence to Kill get higher rankings. Very unique and nice list, it's honestly a nice change of pace from other lists.
I saw Dr. No when I was eight. So I saw all the movies as they were released, which probably gives me a different perspective. In spite of that, I find your ranking surprisingly intuitive. I was also a big fan of Ian Fleming and read nine of the books before I was sixteen. For this reason, I find the Connery, Craig, and Dalton movies to be more aligned with the character, with Brosnan a close 4th, yet Dalton and Brosnan never communicated the clear psychological dichotomy of the Bond character in their acting. From a completely subjective feeling through the years, I think you mentioned all the reason why Goldfinger should be #1 on your list, although Casino Royale was an obvious contender. For the same reason, I can personally dismiss Roger Moore's depiction, since I'm old enough to remember The Saint, which I was a fan of as well. But the character didn't translate well and Moore never really seemed to try to make the break. I completely lost interest in the character during that time, and maybe expected too much from Dalton, afterwards. They promised a return to a character that resembled Fleming's Bond, but that never happened, or they never really knew what that means. If I were to pick three that fit the Fleming's character - Goldfinger, Casino Royale, Dr. No, with Thunderball being a fun fantasy for those of us that love the water sports and casinos while visiting Paradise Island in the Bahamas. As good as Casino was, Quantum, Spectre, and No Time, were duds, IMO, and I don't think the real James Bond has survived the death scene this time, no matter who plays the lead next...
Amazing video and a refreshing list. As a fellow longtime hardcore Bond fan, we could never agree on the order (though Casino is also my number 1), but listen to your comments was a formidable way of revisiting the series. Thanks for sharing!
I know it's your opinion and all, but how the hell a guy who calls himself a "longtime hardcore Bond fan" can say Casino Royale is #1? Unless you're a millennial/gen Z, and the "longtime" was an overstatement.
@@dr.juerdotitsgo5119I can’t agree, for it is my no. 1 also, and I watched my first Bond 1981, love Roger Moore in the role, love From Russia with Love, and watched every single movie since then, most of them lots of times. I didn’t think Craig would do in any way but then I watched Casino Royale and thought: he did a tremendous job anyway.
It’s great fun to watch these Bond rankings. Every other movie you feel the need to shout: no way! He‘s got it all wrong! But like he said: it’s just very subjective. Some enjoy the very bits that ruin a movie to someone else and hate what another one praises. Do you like this villain? Do you think this Bond girl kills? Do you like this actor or that one. Are you annoyed by that silly jokes or do you chuckle with pleasure? Everyone has a different idea what the perfect mix would be. Anyway, the action hardly ever fails to thrill.
My list 25 - Die Another Day 24 - The World is Not Enough 23 - A view to a kill 22 - Diamonds are Forever 21 - Man with the Golden Gun 20 - Moonraker 19 - Tomorrow Never Dies 18 - Quantum of Solace 17 - No Time to Die 16 - Octopussy 15 - You only Live Twice 14 - Spectre 13 - Licence to Kill 12 - Thunderball 11 - Skyfall 10 - Goldeneye 9 - Dr No 8 - For Your Eyes Only 7 - The Living Daylights 6 - Live and Let Die 5 - Casino Royale 4 - The Spy who Loved Me 3 - Goldfinger 2 - On her Majesty’s Secret Service 1 - From Russia with Love
@@luisvael2471 It's not that bad if you omit #1 and #2. Goldfinger, The Spy Who Loved Me, Casino Royale, Live and Let Die, For Your Eyes Only, Goldeneye are all in my top 10 (though not in that order). OHMSS might be in my top 10 (though nowhere near the top) but From Russia With Love as the #1 is clearly a deeply personal choice. I can relate. I have a lot of the Moore films very high because they were on HBO a lot when I was a kid so that was my introduction to James Bond.
If we ever needed proof that those kind of rankings are completely subjective, this is it. I'm not going to argue with you about putting one of my top 3 Bonds last. Because one of your favorites ("Skyfall") usually ends up in my bottom 3. So we're even, lol.
How is skyfall in the bottom 3?? Though I don’t agree it’s top 3 but bottom?!? Storyline was great, visually it was great. Yes it wasn’t a much of a bond film, no cool gadgets, no beautiful side chick. But the villain was great, the last battle was great. And I think I liked that they didn’t make a typical bond film.
First of all, for me there is no such thing as a "bad Bond movie". I watched all 25+2 of them countless times and will continue to do so, no matter how much I complain about certain aspects. Having said that, the storyline of "Skyfall" wasn't that great IMHO. The 1st act MacGuffin is more or less recycled from MI:1, Silva's escape "that was planned for years" doesn't make sense at all. I'm also not a fan of the Home Alone 3rd act. And don't get me started on that waste of a good scotch. How about calling in the cavalry 3min earlier? I know the whole Craig era is supposed to be a deconstruction of Bond. But for me it's just not that entertaining to see him fail over and over again. He fails on his mission, he fails saving Severine, he fails saving M, .... But like I said in my original post. Those rankings are always subjective and I think it's actually rather interesting to learn what other fans like about the movies I don't like that much and vice versa.
@@patstahl6849 no I respect it, I respect that you articulate your reasoning. And I just wanted to hear why it was your bottom 3, it would be somewhere in the middle for me.
Finally a good ranking. So many people who rank these movies seem to have very similar likes and dislikes. Your list is definitely closer to my own than I've ever seen before.
My 1-2 is reversed. You only live twice holds higher to me for the simple fact it was the first full bond flick I seen on TV and that made me fall in love with the series.
The Man with the Golden Gun is one of my favorite Bond movies, I'll never understand why its rated so dreadfully low. The settings are interesting, the action is amazing and while Scaramanga does somewhat overshadow Bond in the movie, I don't necessarily see how thats a bad thing.
I enjoy it also. I think two things are the biggest detractors. 1. They were still trying to Connery up Roger Moore. It's lighthearted, yes, but Moore's Bond is borderline vicious with Scaramanga's mistress. TSMLM seems to be the first script truly written exactly for Moore's portrayal, and that aids it in being arguably the best outing of Moore's tenure. He looks great, he acts great, and he nails everything about it. 2. Mary Goodnight. I like Britt Ekland but that role was just written badly. She consistently does more harm than good virtually every time she's on screen. That being said, Lee is absolutely magnificent as Scaramanga. It's always an enjoyable outing for me.
Nice video, although I disagree with a lot of your ranking :) To me Diamonds are Forever is possibly the worst, while Thunderball is very high (several of the most memorable Bond girls AND Bond kills in one movie, and I like the underwater scenes). I agree that Octopussy is underrated though.
I would say 'Diamonds Are Forever' is the worst Connery Bond, but not the worst Bond film. However, I just absolutely LOVE the theme song, sung by Shirley Bassey.
While many other Bond fan channels have covered topics such as best bond girls or henchmen, it would be great to see list on somewhat more esoteric or obscure topics such, best secondary villains, best locations in the series. Fantastic debut video, I look forward to more.
This inspired me to rewatch a couple of Bond movies. I'm a huge fan and really concur with many of your choices. With a couple of exceptions, of course. The Living Daylights is one of my very favorites - I'm a huge Dalton fan, and I just love that Aha Title track! And Thunderball has always been a favorite as well. But I forgive you 🙃because you reminded me of just how great so many of these movies are.
@@bouya642 "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is crap. Telly Savalas was useless as Blofeld. George Lazenby couldn't act even as well as the actors on "Baywatch", and the plot of the movie is silly. James Bond getting married was ridiculous. That's one part of the books they should have left out of the movies. Even in Ian Fleming's books, she was killed in the book version of "You Only Live Twice", not "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." Either way, the idea of Bond getting married did not fit the mould of what they had been doing with the movies. Also, where did I say that "Goldfinger" is the best James Bond movie? Stop making things up. The best James Bond movie is "From Russia With Love."
@@AnthonyCroydon909 From Russia With Love is the best "Connery" Bond film, and one of the best in the entire franchise. On Her Majesty's Secret Service isn't crap and it is one of the best in the franchise too. The best Bond film is Casino Royale. top 3: 1. Casino Royale 2. GoldenEye 3. Skyfall
I appreciate your unique perspectives in this ranking, and how deep you go into the essence of the films. I agree that it's not only based on the quality of the villains, gadgets, action, etc but the way Bond presents himself in each movie, including the energy and charisma that is shown, such that in You Only Live Twice, Connery, unfortunately, looks bored at some stages in comparison to the confidence and dynamic skills by Brosnan in Goldeneye. As a fellow Bond fan, thank you for acknowledging Licence to Kill and The Man with the Golden Gun on your list, especially with Dalton's great performance in the movie.
In my opinion 1) Skyfall 2) Casino Royale 3) Goldfinger 4) Goldeneye 5) from Russia with love 6) the spy who loved me 7) Dr No 8) no time to die 9) license to kill 10) the living daylights 11) for your eyes only 12) on her majesty secret service 13) Thunderball 14) live and let die 15) tomorrow never dies 16) you only live twice 17) Spectre 18) Octopussy 19) the man with the golden gun 20) a view to a kill 21) the world is not enough 22) quantum of solace 23) moonraker 24) diamonds are forever 25) die another day
I still put Goldfinger as #1 for the reasons you cited in this list (as you yourself called it “the perfect Bond film”). It was the blueprint for all others that came after it. Every second watching it, I felt like I was actually following a British spy during the height of the Cold War. Some of the characters were kinda weak (like Felix for instance), but it felt real. Not every player in the real Cold War espionage years was witty and clever. Many of them were WWII and Koren War veterans who were doing their part to promote the mission of their governments. Even lines like when Felix notices Bond and P*ssy walking together and says something to the effect of “Bond has things well in hand. I’m tired, let’s get back to the motel for some shut-eye.” I’ve never worked for the CIA, but I have worked in government public service. That line is so real and a level of realism you don’t see in film today. Everything these days has to be constant octane.
Glad I found your channel. It's always a delight to find fellow Dalton supporters. I'd personally rank TLD higher than you, but I can't argue that the reason I would is the same reason you stated for your own ranking: Because Dalton is in it. Also, I rank it highly for the absolutely chilling sequence with Pushkin. I mean, we've been following along with Bond, we know he's not buying what Koskov is selling and yet Dalton performs that scene so perfectly that we're still not entirely sure he won't still shoot Pushkin. As for LTK...Jesus what a film. I would not want any version of James Bond after me, but I can state unequivocally that Dalton's Bond in that film is the one I would want after me the least. Bond has never been as smart, cunning, and ruthless as he is in that film. Q is a welcome presence, and Sanchez, I agree, is arguably the best villain the franchise ever created. Why? Because I've seen every Bond film, and Sanchez was the only one who made me believe he'd have people who willingly worked for him. Until Bond pulls Iago on him, he behaves like a man that would entice people to work for him. Why would you want to work for a guy that's going to feed you to a shark for a minor slip up? While there are certainly things that I can agree would make others rank it lower, such as the necessity to make Pam glare with jealousy every time Lupe is around, some of Talisa Soto's line readings, and Felix' WAY to happy behavior in the final scene (Guess that morphine is GOOOD) it's not enough to prevent it from being a personal favorite. Dalton gave us the sequel to OHMSS that we deserved, and while I agree with his personal reasoning when offered the role in 1969 at 22 that he was too young for the part, I can't help but wonder what he'd have done with OHMSS. He certainly wouldn't have been as polished as he was in the two films he did, but he'd have had acting skills that poor George Lazenby just didn't have. I feel sorry for George. He's the Bond I like the least, though I don't hate him at all, he's just not as polished as the other actors. I feel sorry for him because he was i given the script to a Bond film that, aside from LTK or Casino Royale, was one of the toughest scripts for any actor to handle. If he'd had a film like Moore's "Live and Let Die," or Connery's "Dr. No," and had a chance to get his acting footing in a Bond film where Bond isn't required to do as much heavy lifting, he'd have been far better prepared to tackle OHMSS. It's almost stunning that Broccoli gave such a deep Bond script to someone with little to no acting experience.
While working aboard a freighter during the Gulf War we had a an old fashioned color boob tube style television in the lounge with a VHS player and a fair number of tapes to watch. Our two favorite movies were From Russia With Love and You Only Live Twice. Followed by Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure!
Found myself surprised at how much I agreed with u. Also confirmed what I have always said, that Daniel Craig is my all time favourite Bond actor. However, i think I would swap number 1 and 2 around. Skyfall takes the cake for me. Thank you.
An outstanding list. I like how you said your father got you into the series. I think a lot of Gen Xers like me were introduced to Bond movies watching them with their dads on the ABC Sunday Night Movies when they would play. Even where I might disagree with you, your arguments are cogent and compelling. I'm subscribing.
Thanks, Ty! Yep, for me I believe it was Saturday mornings the movies would come on AMC, and then dad started taking us to Blockbuster on Friday nights after school...I always went straight for the Bond movies haha
Wow. What a rollercoaster of a Bond ranking! It's definitely uniquely your own. I don't agree with much of it, but I respect it. Love that Licence To Kill is ranked to high. I have to say, being a lifelong Bond fan, there isn't a more friendly and respectful community.
@@TheJamesBondCountdown Absolutely, I appreciate different perspectives and views. It makes for interesting conversation. Nothing but love in the Bond world.

Highly intelligent and incisive - thankyou. My own No. 1 is Skyfall, for the cinematographic artistry, music score, emotional range and depth, script, direction, cleverly varied pace, and sublime sets (Oriental and Scottish). I'd put the 'too old Roger Moore' picks much lower, since if Bond himself isn't believable, then the rest of the film can't make up for that lack.

I probably would've said Goldfinger was my favorite when I was a kid, but my tastes have changed as I've gotten older, and I'm sure they'll continue to! And yes, tragic that Dalton couldn't be Bond as long as Moore was.
I strongly agree with everything on this list with the exception of the the first entry, the last entry, and everything in between. Other than those minor quibbles, it is perfect.
I, too, am a life long fan. I disagree on some of the placements but I truly appreciate the positions you present. Extremely well done! Excellent job!!
Moonraker is always near the bottom of fan rankings, but it's one of my favorites because it's so different from the rest. This film is loaded with gadgets, and there something uber cool seeing a Bond fight sequence with laser guns. I love the silly, dark humor. The pre-title sequence is superb, featuring some of the best stunt work in the entire series. Moonraker is definitely one of those films where you need to leave your brain at the door and just enjoy the ride.
Objectively I think Moonraker is one of the worst entries, although I still really enjoy it, mostly because of Hugo Drax, and his almost endless list of classic Bond villain lines :)
I'm a bit shocked that No Time To Die is in the top 10, but I totally respect your choice because you did a great job pointing out the film's flaws (there are many) and you acknowledge that some of the story choices don't sit right with you (I agree that James Bond would never give up and die).

I also appreciate your love of AVTAK - it has its issues, but its a really enjoyable film to watch. Thanks for creating the video.
I'm glad that you hung in there! I realize how unpopular it is to dislike Majesty's so much, but it's how I feel and it's no less valid than how any other Bond fan feels. It's always better to hear each other out than write each other off, so thank you for hearing me out!
My dad took me to see The Spy Who Loved Me in the cinema's when I was 7 years old and I have been a Bond fan ever since, and TSWLM remains in my top 5 to this day, along with GoldenEye, Thunderball, Skyfall and On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Great work, I really enjoyed your rankings and even though I don't agree with all of them, I loved the reasons you gave and in a few instances will have me rethinking how I view and enjoy some of the films. I look forward to viewing more of your videos. Thank You

Hey, I love that you have such an appreciation for GoldenEye and Licence To Kill … the two films in the series written for Timothy Dalton. While Dalton was in TLD, it wasn’t written for him originally. And even though Dalton retired right before GoldenEye, Pierce is absolutely great in it! And just outside of my top six (the six films closest to their Ian Fleming novel of the same name), I have Licence To Kill.
From all over really! I did an exhaustive search for the best version I could find of each theme, but most of them are by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
View to a Kill was my first Bond, and though it hasn’t aged as well as others, it holds a special place for me. Though the music and especially the Duran Duran theme are still strong.
Great job! I don't agree with everything, but you explained your picks well and with conviction. And most importantly, had a lot of "food for thought" ideas for when I make my own list.
Diamonds was my first Bond film too and it changed my life. turned me into a Bond fanatic, Blew me away. Bums me out when fans put it down. It's a great film.
@@randallderchan6555 PLUS don't forget the terrific, and atmospheric, title song composed by the great maestro John Barry and brilliantly performed by Shirley Bassey - hugely underrated Bond theme!
I'm definitely agree with your top 3. Skyfall was the first Bond movie I saw in theaters and went with my dad. However we've been watching Bond films together for as long as I can remember. I'm 32, so despite my love for these movies I've only watched Skyfall in theaters, for whatever reason. It is currently my favorite Bond movie, for the cinematography, the score, the action, and that final scene! That scene imo was one of the best ever. Great list, and I applaud you for the time you must have spent on it.
No other James Bond series had so much world class level making and soundtrack like the Daniel Craig movies.... The cinematic experience is out of this world
I also only saw one Bond movie in the cinema - The Man With The Golden Gun. All the others I either watched on TV, or on video. Most are crap, anyways.
wow!!! this was really well done. I may not agree on the rankings but you gave me pause for thought and made me want to rewatch many of these films. Thank you sincerely!
I think I would struggle to make such a list. I was born in the early 70s and I believe the first Bond movie I ever got to see was The Spy who Loved me... or possibly Moonraker. At all odds I grew up a Roger Moore fan because he was the first Bond I ever saw. But eventually I saw all of Sean Connery Bond as well as On her Majesty's Secret Service and the Dalton Bond films and I enjoyed all of them. I wasn't a huge fan of Dalton primarily because he replaced Moore but I still enjoyed his films. I had wanted to see Brosnan as Bond ever since I first saw him in Remington Steele and was quite happy with Goldeneye but somewhere in his tenure I lost interests in Bond. Maybe it grew too ridiculous or maybe something else caught my attention but I'm pretty sure there are at least one or two of his outings that I haven't seen from beginning to end. Daniel Craig and the reboot really breathed life back into the Franchise with Casino Royale and then Quantum of Solace kind of sucked the life back out of it and then Skyfall performed CPR. And back and forth it went. I recently watched No Time to Die and I absolutely LOVED it. Maybe it is my maternal instinct but Bond as a protective parent really stirred something with in my heart and I was deeply touched by his decision to sacrifice himself to guarantee that he would never be the reason he lost the woman he loved and his child. Is it my favorite Bond film. No I don't think it is, but it's a damn good film! As I said at the outset putting all of the Bond's into some sort of ranked order would be quite the struggle. And my list would probably be very different from many others. But then the list shown here shows me that I'm not alone in that.
Once upon a time, I probably would have written something sarcastic and condescending here... but you're so right! Personal choice is so very subjective and in a world where too many keyboard warriors are happy to write things they wouldn't say to someone's face in civil debate, I'll simply take my hat off to you, Sir for your honest choice. All the best, Mate.
Can't thank you enough for this - It's all subjective, it's all opinions, and I really appreciate when people such as yourself understand and respect that!
@@TheJamesBondCountdown The pleasures all mine, my friend. As an actor (I have the distinction of playing Bond for Radio York briefly - I look fabulous on radio!) and drama teacher in Ukraine, I rather think there are more important things in life to complain about right now than which films we love. Good luck with the channel, mate.
Outstanding analysis and countdown. WOW. And I thought I had it covered. Agree with a surprisingly large number of placing. Loved Casino/Goldeneye and Goldfinger, probably my top 3, followed by Skyfall. Hated Lazenby as well as the movie plot and Hunt’s direction, can’t stand Moonraker and really like Timothy and Robert Davi, LTK is an outstanding storyline and superbly acted movie. Octopussy and The Spy who loved me are really good too. What a great review. Thanks heaps and congrats.
Well done, I love this list. I appreciate your love for Dalton and how his should have been in all the 80's bond movies, A View to a Kill with Dalton would have been amazing. I disagree personally with The Living Daylights at 17 as that's my personal favourite but I'll give you a pass as you share as much love for Dalton as I do. Looking forward to more content
We have some major disagreements (swap Licence to Kill and OHMSS, for starters) but I otherwise salute your honesty, taste, and courage of conviction. Cheers!
Interesting list. I find it difficult to rank all of the Bond movies in a distinct list. And I would need to watch them myself all in a close succession to have a better founded opinion. So the best about your list is, that I feel like watching more Bond again. Skyfall is one of my favorites for sure, as it had one of the strongest emotional impact on me apart from ticking all the right Bond-boxes.
Thanks for acknowledging Dalton. He did serious Bond before the audience was ready for it, so he only got to make two movies. Which is a shame.
Completely agree!
And thank YOU gemini for acknowledging the acknowledgement. Dalton as Bond has held a special place in my heart since I was a kid ❤️
@@TheJamesBondCountdown Now that I think about it, they should've replaced Moore after Moonraker... He was too old to continue on. I think Dalton would have been better...
No offense to your take, but Dalton is a scenery-chewer. With Craig, the 'serious Bond' comes from a place of truth; with Dalton, it feels theatrical.
@@williamledbetter2223 Agreed.
You are spot on with License to Kill. Dalton was fantastic and Davi as Sanchez was inspired.
And Licence had one of the very best themes with Gladys Knight... imho.
Yep, Dalton did what Craig did but 20 years earlier.
I love license to kill
I never paid LTK much attention, but I'm definitely going to re-watch it soon. I do like Dalton as Bond, wish that he was able to do more films.
I've always felt the Bonds and their movies fit the times they were in
I most definitely concur with this comment. You have what you have during the respective period. Period.
Definitely. Many of the older films have not aged well
@@aidanlastname0187 not true at all. Some things are chessy, but thats just your taste.
Except for Die another day. That felt too futuristic
This is what I love about Bond fandom, we all have our opinions and what's bad and what's good and we aren't toxic with each other.
Unfortunately I have seen some toxicity here and there, but for the most part I agree!
Agreed. Love Tomorrow Never Dies. Characters and story are decent. The pretitle scene, the pacing, action, humor, and music are all top-tier Bond.
I used to rewind and rewatch the barrel sequence tens of times when I was a kid. Also one of my favorites
It's my favorite lol
Finally someone else who appreciates A View to A Kill. Killer soundtrack. Killer villain. Killer ending. I've always loved it. Not the best. But very enjoyable.
I concur. To me, it was a fun movie to watch!
I think there is never a bad bond film
I agree espacially the begening in paris with grace jones drop from the effel tower loved it👍🏻
It needed Dalton as Bond.
I think I fell asleep during it. It's at the bottom of the list for me next to DAD
THANK YOU I only started watching the bond films recently but thunderball and on her majesties secret service drove me up the wall woth its editing
Brosnan sucks!!!
That's amazing!
My 6 year old brother loves For Your Eyes Only! He's only seen more than half of it, but it's his favourite movie so far!
No

And a classic beauty in Sophie Marceau. As pretty as Eva Green is, I think Sophie was gorgeous.
The World Is Not Enough winds up laying the groundwork for all the best aspects of Craig's Era (same writers).
Speaking of Bond villains, there's a real life one now......that guy from the WEF and his globalist agenda.
I'm glad to see the first three Brosnan films and Licence to Kill get higher rankings. Very unique and nice list, it's honestly a nice change of pace from other lists.
Thanks, Ethan - I'm so happy I could offer that unique change of pace! And I'll always champion the films you mentioned!
@@TheJamesBondCountdown Same here! Keep up the awesome work, can't wait for more!
Something can't be 'very unique'. It is either unique or it is not.
@@londislagerhound Shush, he's saying that it's very unique towards the list ranking from the TH-camr.
Every Bond ranking is unique. I honestly don't think you can have a typical Bond ranking. Even a typical top 10. Maybe a typical top 5 or 3.
Thanks!

Skyfall at 11 is criminal
everyone who choses From Russia With Love as Bond movie no1 earns my respect
If we ever needed proof that those kind of rankings are completely subjective, this is it. I'm not going to argue with you about putting one of my top 3 Bonds last. Because one of your favorites ("Skyfall") usually ends up in my bottom 3. So we're even, lol.
Even-steven! It would be so boring if we all had the same lists.

That's awesome! I agree that I see a lot of similar lists - Glad to know there are others close to my own!
I think Christopher Lee is one of the most liked Bond villains not named Blofeld or Xenia Onatopp.
@@easyenetwork2023 dont forget goldfinger on that list
I have always loved it too and it's not over the top ridiculous like Moonraker as example (though I like some for being ridiculous).
The Spy Who Loved Me is definitely my favourite, but I have a fun time with every Bond film!
agree , me too

@@bouya642 "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" is crap. Telly Savalas was useless as Blofeld. George Lazenby couldn't act even as well as the actors on "Baywatch", and the plot of the movie is silly. James Bond getting married was ridiculous. That's one part of the books they should have left out of the movies. Even in Ian Fleming's books, she was killed in the book version of "You Only Live Twice", not "On Her Majesty's Secret Service." Good list, shame about The Man With The Golden Gun, though…🤪
I agree 💯%, Connery IS James Bond, Goldfinger is The bond movie
Great insights - Glad to have you as a viewer!

Thanks - It's by the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra!
Thank you.
Really enjoyed your narrational views, looking forward to the next.
Some brave choices there :p Thanks for the video. I always enjoy seeing other people's view of the Bond films.
Appreciate the respect, Shannon! No reason we should fight just because we have different lists.
@@TheJamesBondCountdown Absolutely, I appreciate different perspectives and views. It makes for interesting conversation.
Nothing but love in the Bond world.
Thank you for giving Goldeneye and Casino Royale the love they deserve. Goldeneye is also the only fictional story whose video game and movie versions are simultaneously great.
Goldeneye is so overrated. It's always in every TH-camrs top 5
Nowadays that spot belongs to The Last of Us
Just remember.....
There were 2 Casino Royales
@@TheMedicOfficer it is in everyone's top 5 because it's great! The best Bond in my opinion.
@@emmanuelinfantegonzalez4316 TLOU tv series was mid at best. Miles behind the absolute unite of video-games (YES PT2 is probably the most powerful form of video game that I will ever experience ever and thus my favourite despite its flaws).. Goldeneye on the other is GREAT as a movie and Legendary as a video game. Can you really have a first person shooter evolution list without mentioning Goldeneye?
Highly intelligent and incisive - thankyou. My own No. 1 is Skyfall, for the cinematographic artistry, music score, emotional range and depth, script, direction, cleverly varied pace, and sublime sets (Oriental and Scottish). I'd put the 'too old Roger Moore' picks much lower, since if Bond himself isn't believable, then the rest of the film can't make up for that lack.
Moonraker might not be too good but it has its moments and it is a feel good film. I particularly like the opening before and title sequence
Excellent analysis and superb editing! Featuring the theme song for each film is such a nice touch, well done! Can't wait to see what you come up with next.
Thank you! I worked hard and it took way longer than I thought it would, so I'm glad that it delivered for you!
@@TheJamesBondCountdown great video! Most people love the Bond films they grew up with, you grew up in the Daniel Craig, I grew up with Roger Moore. I did love how you mixed old with new!!

@@TheJamesBondCountdown I like how you didn't let popular opinion influence your rankings, with good analysis on each film. It makes me want to watch all of them again and reassess my own feelings about them. I don't think I'll change my opinion about "Die Another Day" being my least favorite though!
You're so right about each fan being completely unique and having wildly different lists! How funny that our number one is the same, yet my "other number one" is your absolutely least favorite! Haha!! VERY well done video!! Enjoyed it thoroughly and anxiously awaiting more!
Can't thank you enough - So happy to have your viewership! And no hard feelings on Majesty's hahaha
I totally agree with you. OHMSS is one of my favorite Bond movies of all time. The book is great as well.
@@verona8144 - That is interesting because I am not part of "today's generation" and I have Skyfall and Casino ranked high as well.
I'm not sure if you are aware of this or not be everyone has their own opinions on this and no one said it was "a proper indicator to what a film is ranked". @@verona8144 - Here, let me help you - the word is actually "polite". It really isn't that hard. Also, it is "YOU'RE wrong" not " your wrong". YOU'RE is a conjunction of "you" and "are". YOUR is the possessive form of "you". Thus ended the lesson, child. Good luck
I enjoyed both Dalton films immensely. It is nice to see someone else appreciates them too.
In a perfect world, Dalton would've done as many movies as Moore.
License to Kill is one of my favorite films, Bond or otherwise.
I loved Tim Dalton as Bond; especially in License To Kill.
In my personal opinion....Dalton was a great actor but as I said in my opinion.....
He just came across too stiff and serious, After all that was one of the Bond Mainstays.... To do his job and then come across with a little quip/one liner
Best list I’ve ever seen… We all will have differences, but how well articulated and laid out is what impresses… Like you, I also got into the series as a 90’s kid from my father… Very well done
Thank you for saying this!
I love how diverse the bond fanbase is, no two lists are ever the same
Considering there are 1.55 x 10²⁵ possible Bond rankings and only about 8 x 10⁹ people on Earth, the odds of any two having identical rankings are even more astronomical than the last hand in Casino!
Quite a few interesting placements there, a few I’d agree with and others not so much.
Personally OHMSS is near the top for me and I’ve loved it more and more as I’ve gotten older, I do share your love of Licence to Kill though, it’s one of my favourites and a very underrated film. My top 5 in no particular order would be:
1) OHMSS
2) Licence to Kill
3) Casino Royale
4) Spy who loved me
5) from Russia with love
Bottom 5:
1)Diamonds are forever
2) Man with the golden gun
3) Die another day
4) Quantum of Solace
5) Spectre
Thanks for sharing - I respect the differences in our rankings!
@@TheJamesBondCountdown Thanks for the reply, yours was a good ranking, i always find it interesting to hear why people think differently to what I do 👍
I agree apart from I'd have Live and Let Die in the top number 5 spot.
I cannot believe Goldfinger is not no. 1 wow, as you said it is perfect, agreed Timothy Dalton is the most underated Bond and sadly he should have done more films
Nice video well put together
You’re rankings suck but nice video
Brilliantly done brother!🎉
Thanks!
And dont forget jaws, the most badass henchmen of the serie!
My second favorite is Moonraker
Objectively I think Moonraker is one of the worst entries, although I still really enjoy it, mostly because of Hugo Drax, and his almost endless list of classic Bond villain lines :)
I like Bonds without a plot. I usually ignore the plot anyway. So, Moonraker is perfect :) It's one of my fav Bond songs too.
I totallly agree with you. The scene with the laser gun fight in space is unforgettable. I can imagine the future space wars will look much like that.
This series is unique in that I legitimately enjoy every one of them, even the objectively lacklustre - or even bad - ones.
I'm a bit shocked that No Time To Die is in the top 10, but I totally respect your choice because you did a great job pointing out the film's flaws (there are many) and you acknowledge that some of the story choices don't sit right with you (I agree that James Bond would never give up and die).
I hear ya, brother. I have many issues with the script, but the craft of the filmmaking and the spirit of the performances are just so top-notch!
I didn't watch no time to die and don't plan to because Bond doesn't die in the movies he doesn't have kids and he is always the alpha. The movie maybe good but without Bond being bond it's not a bond movie.
@@dynamobahamas status quo *MUST NOT CHANGE*.
I disagree with some writing choices in the film but "must always be the alpha" "doesn't die" "doesn't have kids" - these are insanely shallow complaints.
@@dommoore6180 I think the algorithm sent me here. To tell you that... James Bond can't die. Like, what the fuck - did you run out of Fleming or something? No! I consider new Bond actors just, shall I say it, visual retcon of the retired visual likeness. The character itself isn't up to actors and directors to change as severely as KILLING him.

Tomorrow Never Dies has grown on me over the years, however, I do think it would have been better set during a time where social media is a thing. My personal favourite Bond film is The Man With The Golden Gun. It doesn't have my favourite Bond, it has the second worst title song, but, it has the best villain. Great list and putting your opinion out there, without deliberately wanting to start an argument. Well done. 👏👏👏
Good work. I have seen many James Bond rankings. Yours is the one that I agree with the most.

Moonraker used to be really low on my ranking list, but I watched it again not too long back and thoroughly enjoyed it and was surprised at how much I enjoyed it. While it’s still MILES from my top ten, it did jump up a few spots.
My personal fave has always been, (and probably always will be), From Russia With Love.
Always fun to revisit films and discover that you feel differently about them!
I agree. I feel like Moonraker gets a bad rap because Bond went to space, but that's only the last 15 minutes of it. Overall, Moonraker is the most fun and most beautiful shot Bond movie out of all of them to me, so Moonraker is probably the Bond movie I have rewatched the most throughout the years. I would probably even sneak it into my Top 10 at 9 or 10 (*GASP*!!!). From Russia With Love is also my all-time favorite Bond film!!!
Fantastic list and editing job, I was cheering on Licence all the way!!

I nearly turned this off after seeing OHMSS in bottom place, but I'm glad I stuck with it. It's great to find someone else who thinks TMWTGG is one of Moore's best films - the film is criminally underrated. As is LTK, which you give a good showing to.

Skyfall way too high, but completely agree with licence to kill. Top 5 Bond film for sure.
wow!!! this was really well done. I may not agree on the rankings but you gave me pause for thought and made me want to rewatch many of these films. Thank you sincerely!
And thank you, Sean!
You only live twice is my favorite
Pierce Brosnan couldn't do the 2 movies that Timothy Dalton did because NBC would not release him from his contract.
@@virgilwyatt4632 I'm aware of that and that's why I had such anticipation for Skyfall.

@@TheJamesBondCountdown The pleasures all mine, my friend.
