youve got MAD skills! All the more respect I have for what you truckers ahve to go through. TO the rest of us, you see a trucker with his/her blinker on, let them in!
You know, it's to bad steerable trailers remotes don't have the same capabilities that yacht-controller has: able to turn engines like that pony motor on or off, 500 foot range and simple joystick toggles for the left and right. With those you could have the remote in your cab and use as needed for un-escorted trips where you need the extra control. The yacht controllers are meant to allow the boat captain to have active control where they have best sight while moving in a marina where damage can be extremely costly, not for use in open waters so much the same as the steerable trailers.
That’s an interesting and good comparison! The technology is there. The problem is the budget. In North America we are just starting to get steerable trailers but not fancy stuff. There are systems already on the market that constantly steer the trailers around all corners, the driver doesn’t even need to get out but these systems are reserved for the really big loads. If you watch some of my videos with the wind mill towers for example you will see different and better quality steerable systems.
Grew up in Columbus. They are doing a ton of heavy hauls for the new intel center down there right now from the ohio river. Anyways time to get the popcorn!
Great haul, I sure thought you were going to drag going into the parking lot there at the end! Was questionable on the off load but they got it done! 👍🤠
Jeez, you should get paid by the mile and the steps! Interesting video and excellent driving! Kudos to the fork lift operators for their help and professionalism! Thanks for another great video!
I assume those were the rigger’s that off loaded the material separator from the trailer, and their compensation is part of their rigging job. My experience is they are the best at what they do, coordinated moves by multiple tow motors.
Douglas you have to be the most patient truck driver I’ve ever seen. I myself can’t stand how rude some of those people are in those little cars. If they understood how stressful it is to drive a big rig let alone heavy haul just maybe we would get a little highway respect.
Hi Doug, again you show how true a professional you are !! I wish we had more truck drivers like you here in Ontario. Unfortunately we have to many that have never driven in winter conditions. I respect winter conditions growing up in northern Ontario. That was a lot of work to configure and dismantle the trailer components !!
Yes we see it every day the new drivers who don’t adjust their driving to the conditions. Unfortunately people love seeing pictures and videos of the carnage and drama on the internet.
So when you drop off your load and have to break down the trailer for the haul back, was it the site construction crew who helps you out? Using their forklifts of course. If so, how many hours does it take to assemble for the haul back home? How much do they get paid or is it somehow worked into the contract for the delivery of the product...
With these big deliveries the client understands that the driver will need help with manpower and equipment to breakdown the trailer. A trailer like this one can take over an hour just to break down. Obviously the same goes at the opposite end when we load at the shipper. Some places such as at the ports will charge us for the time so we will adjust the freight cost accordingly.
I was amazed that with a trailer that long, there was no operator controlling the steering of the wheels either directly on the trailer or remotely from a vehicle following. It's inconceivable that the driver had to stop part way through an intersection, walk to the rear of the trailer, start the hydraulic pump engine, turn the wheels, walk back to the tractor, and move around the corner, then have to stop to straighten the trailer wheels, all the time holding up the traffic. All this could have been avoided by either method I outlined previously.
How long did it take to break down your trailer after unloading. Looks like quite the process. Do you have in the freight contract that the receiver will help? Nice that they do, but surprises me at the same time as everybody's worried about liability instead of doing the right thing.
This trailer particularly is a long process. It takes more than an hour to assemble or disassemble. Usually there is an agreement with the companies shipping or receiving these oversize loads that they will be required to help.
You was in my neck of the woods. Wish I knew was coming, I would’ve come helped you and met you. That must have been a new place, I haven’t seen that one before. I moved a shear up from southern Ohio to a place on 17th Ave, it looked pretty close to where you were. Have a good ride back.
I was thinking the same. find it weird that the regs differ so much that Doug started with no escort and ended up with escorts AND police. There doesn't seem to be a common logic....
It would be prohibitively expensive and cause more headache. Every state has different geography and road layouts. Nothing is stopping a trucking company from hiring escorts. But a load that needs 3 escorts plus cops on the east coast may very well need 0 in Wyoming or the Dakotas.
Come on, Doug. "The best-laid plans of mice and men go oft awry." Lucky you check-scaled that puppy. You know how little sense-of-humor the scale boys have when you show up "over on your (fill in the blank)."

Hey, I’ve been considering getting an Allison Auto trans. Do you think the auto with torque converter makes it pull better?? I’ve been driving the same truck for 23 yrs, 400 big cam. Not the best on power/torque but runs beautifully… just curious your likes/dislikes vs. reg auto shift style..
The Allison does a great job. It shifts really smoothly even while pulling heavy weight. From my experience the fuel mileage numbers aren’t what we hoped for tho so if that’s important to you might want to reconsider. There is a short video on this channel comparing the Allison to an 18 speed manual.
@@luckybananaheavyhaul3407 I will look it up..! I pull specialized too. 7 axles so nothing like what you’re doing but as I get older the auto sounds so nice. The vids make it look so smooth. I notice the RPM’s stay right in the torque range when shifting. One it prolly hurts fuel mileage but seems like it would help with pulling and getting up to speed. Thx again
@scottreed5460 the biggest advantage is taking off from a dead stop. I surprise cars all the time at traffic lights. It’s like a rocket. Nothing will pull like the Allison from a dead stop. At highway speed in the hills is a different story. With only 7 speeds the gap is big and the advantage of a manual is being able to split gears and always be in optimal pulling range. Nothing is perfect
i am a CDL-A driver too. i have always wanted to do Heavy haul work. cool job man. i wish i did what you do. But i am stuck in a Cascadia pulling a Dry-Van or Intermodel.
Don’t wait for your company to buy a heavy haul trailer. When you have some experience start applying to other companies. Don’t give up on your goals 💪
interesting process of shortening the trailer and loading the jeep. you should do a video on using the jeep, what does it do, how do you use it etc etc. i know why, but i'm sure many dont! are your jeeps adjustable for weight loading onto the tractor? or do you have different length of jeeps to use depending on the load? i have seen you push the trailer forward by backing up the tractor and jeep to clear an obstacle, that was a cool move!
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll keep that in mind for a future video! We have different styles of jeeps depending on the requirements. 1,2,3 axles and with different axle spacing. Different provinces require different axle spacings.
