    Once the outsole is worn down, you can trim the heal and then sand the outsole flat and basically turn it into the midsole and cement on a new outsole. Works pretty well and you still retain some of the squish that you initially had with the softer outsole.

    • @RyanAlexanderBloom
      @RyanAlexanderBloom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I’ve heard that this doesn’t work very well. Cured polyurethane, so I’ve been told, doesn’t accept glue or cement well and the sole can just delaminate. Most boot resole places won’t touch them and the results from places that will are not highly reviewed.

    • @dfpguitar
      @dfpguitar 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@RyanAlexanderBloomthere is a lot of adhesives out there. Permabond Flex is one that is recommended for flexible PU. There is so much surface area , I find it hard to believe it would not work.

  • @NathanBake
    @NathanBake 2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I had a similar pair to these and the only issue I found was that the sole got a little brittle and it became easy to chip away little chunks on the heel and edges. Very comfortable and after more than a year of construction work they were still in great shape.

  • @RyanAlexanderBloom
    @RyanAlexanderBloom 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Polyurethane soles/midsoles are actually MUCH more comfortable and shock absorbing than any combination of leather, felt, cloth, and vibram as would be found in a traditional boot. You can also attach classic vibram outsoles to them and leather sock liners. You can also 3D mold them to get a better overall ergonomic anatomical fit. See Chaco sandals for instance. Extreme comfort and durability. It’s sort of the best of all worlds EXCEPT you really can’t resole them easily. Once it cures it’s really hard to glue or otherwise adhere a new outsole to it. It’ll never be the same the second time around. If anyone will even attempt it. So it doesn’t make sense to buy a $500 pair of boots made that way. But a $200 pair that are more comfortable… that’s a pretty ok trade. The best possible compromise in my opinion would be to construct the boot in a classic fashion but have a poly layer in the midsole that isn’t “direct attached” to the upper, but sort of floating, so that you could deconstruct and resole the boot more easily. But you still get a shock absorbing layer that will never pack out or lose its loft.

    Need to know how long PU soles or midsoles will last. My expensive Meindl midsole disintegrated. The Company said they hydrolize or absorb moisture over time. What does the industry say about PU longevity ?

    You should check out SM Wholesale USA, they make reproduction WW1 and 2 boots, shoes and clothing. I have no personal experience with them but they sound very interesting. They tout their boots as being constructed EXACTLY like the originals, down to the period markings. Supposedly some of their boots are made by the same company that made the originals, on the same equipment. They look very nice in the pictures and sound like true quality, all leather midsoles and insoles, etc. They aren't cheap but I think they'd be a lot more if they had a name brand on them with shareholders and advertisers and retailers all getting a chunk. Also, since I try to say this on every video, cut and review a pair of Wesco Morrisons please. Have a nice day and give Toaster some lovins' for me.

    For $150CAD the Dakota 400-2 is the best bang for you buck that I could find. It also uses a different last than most of dakota's boots so it fits wide feet really well. It's an 8 inch steel toe with a composite plate.

      @ian trofimov Ok. I didn't have that experience. Also the last of the boot was really important to me because of my odd sizing. Most boots are far too narrow for me to wear.

    You should check HAIX boots frol Germany. They make some of the best safety boots out there, and they are specialized in firefighter boots. The XR1 and Fire Hero 3.0 are the most popular models. Can you make a review about them?

    The biggest benefit of a composite toecap for me is not having to take my boots off when I go through airport security.

    I bought a pair of these in size 14, they seemed almost clown shoe like outta the box. They were huge! But they did fit correctly. I would say that the sipes on the outsole didn’t last the first 20 miles but the rest of the boot help up great to a season of paving. I’d buy another pair if they made a few slight tweaks to the toe box and threw a shank in there

    I love Ariat work and riding boots, have worn them for forever. I've gone through quite a few pairs, but that's my fault as I'm not known to be remotely nice to my boots... In usage or in care. I also have an uneven stride that burns through soft outsoles at an amazing rate. Not all their boots are made equal, but they do make nice models for sure.

    I’ve use this model and work in warehouse sales in South Tx (Hot) Cement all day . Cold storage , freezers - some acid - dirt and lists of waking. getting a new pair at 3 years because I have acid sports on the upper. Good comfy boot and cheap enough to be replaced every couple of years
