That comic book you mention is one of the greatest comics I've ever read. Pages and pages of action cells and no dialog balloons...absolutely was perfect.
Hiroyuki Sanada always playing that sword wielding japanese person is almost every movie and I love him for it. Im glad he was able to make a show as great as Shogun, he deserves stuff like that. very dedicated actor and underrated
I like the respect Wolverine shows the samurai. Without the regeneration ability, he would have lost the fight. It wasn’t a fair fight to begin with and I think he acknowledges it, which is why he gives him the chance to walk away
Lol yeah Shingen lost this fight before it even started. He could have walked away alive but couldn’t live with defeat. This fight is why I say wolverine beats cap by attrition.
Wolverine is not trying to fight here. He could just walk forward without fear of damage and instantly kill the Samurai. But he knew that he was in no danger, and even at first spared the Samurai, gave him a chance to leave
What made Wolverine such a great fighter is the fact he got his ass kicked for 200 years. No karate just ape shit crazy gets his ass kicked he recovers and kills. Remembering mistakes while fighting Ninjas and Samurai's over the years is nasty work
Undeniably stupid ,how many times can you cut a guy see he's healing and think :I'm gonna do the same thing again hoping to get a different outcome lol.
Hiroyuki Sanada is the closest equivalent we've got to Jackie Chan, since they both came up during the same period and are friends, except Sanada is arguably a better actor.
Gives you something to look forward for yourself, doesn't it? People looking down on you when you're his age because you don't fit their idea of what you should be instead of celebrating what you are. Especially when they haven't, and never will, contribute anything worthwhile to your life. Kinda makes them sound like whiny parasites.
This classic line comes from the comics (I'm the best at what I do, but what I do best isn't very enjoyable). It perfectly sums up the tightrope that Wolverine must walk.
The line is actually "I'm the best there is at what I do, but what I do best isn't very nice". That's from the Wolverine limited comic series part of this film is inspired by.
Something I always think about during Wolverine fight scenes is that he once said that though he heals, he still feels all the pain of wounds when they happen. Hugh Jackman really gets that across: a man who has felt the pain each time he received a mortal or crippling wound but willed himself to keep going despite it.
I recently reread the 1982 Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller (w/inks by Joe Rubinstein). I liked how in that comic, they showed that Wolverine’s healing factor has its limits and him already being poisoned or wounded puts him in real danger against Shingen. As much as I like this scene, I wish that they’d gone with that vibe. They could’ve had it to where Wolverine’s healing factor was returning, but severely weakened since it was JUST restored to him. This fight would’ve had a lot more on the line, with Shingen clearly being more skilled (and poisoned himself) fighting a recovering but still vulnerable Wolverine. Still, it’s an awesome fight onscreen, and Hiroyuki Sanada was good as Shingen. 👍
No. Wolverine is not trying to fight here. After all, he knows perfectly well that the Samurai will not be able to harm him. If he really wanted to, Wolverine could kill him in seconds
This is a pretty good highlight of how Wolverine fights. With fighters like Yukio, she uses agility and skill. But Wolverine is just pure brute strength, brutality and endurance. He's not careful at all and he's completely reckless because he knows he'll survive no matter how many times he gets stabbed.
In the comics Wolverine is known as one of the best fighters in the marvel universe, learning many martial arts through the centuries, even pressure point techniques. I love Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, but all the movies get it wrong and show him as a brawler who relies a lot in his healing factor. PS: SORRY, NERD HABITTS.
I know it's weird to get excited over something small as this, but Shingen's scream when he stabs Logan in the chest with his sword was so legendary. Props to Sanda! 👏
Love this fight scene its amazing don't hit my friends shows that even though he gets mad at people and doesn't want to join them he still cares about them hes a great character 💯👍👍

Anybody else here hate how Wolverine's hairdo has stayed this way or in a way like this in the live-action films after; especially when he's in the past in Days of Future Past😊
The coolest part of these movies is the plot armor. Wolverines body and claws are made out of adamantium which can cut through anything, from the first movie on he has been shown to easily cut through various metal items, for example in his fight with Gambit he literally shred a metal fire escape like it was paper. However in this movie a simple Katana can stop his adamantium. Unless ALL the weapons used against him in this movie were adamantium too.
Lord Shingen was much better antagonist towards Wolverine than old man who had robot suit. Shingen was so badass. He is technically just average man and still was able to survive that long against Wolverine because of his skills. He should've wore the original Silver Samurai outfit and have same powers that Silver Samurai has in comics.
The only thing that really ever bugged me with this was how his adamantium claws didn't just slice straight though katana blades made of steel. Throughout all the films, his claws really should he making so much more of a mess of people and things, less grabbing and blocking and more just slicing through everything like a hot knife through butter. Most of the films and games fail to capture what are the stated properties and reality of sharpened adamantium. But alas, nothing is perfect. Doesn't stop it from being fantastic.
