I think the actual point to let Richard Dreyfuss and was trying to say was that he doesn’t necessarily want to play a black man but he wants everyone to be able to play any role they want. He wants them to get that role based on their skill. Don’t get a roll just because you’re black and check off a checkbox. Get a roll because you’re a great performer. Don’t get a roll because you’re a white actor. Get the role because you are a great performer. That’s what I took away from what he was saying. He was kind of crazy in the way, you said it. But I believe that was the gist of it.
My thoughts exactly. Even more disappointing is that this panel labeled him a racist for an awkwardly worded statement that was obviously not made with malice.
What Kat was saying about job interviews makes a lot of sense. The thing is, HR doesn't have to ask people about their sexual preference or gender identification. Job applicants are voluntarily putting that information on their resume's. They now know they're far more likely to get hired for their diversity appeal than their actual talents, skills and experience. The sick thing is HR actively looks past talents, skills, and experience to see if the applicant meets a "marginalized minority" quota.
It’s been that way for quite a while. When I was a hiring manager, I tried to bypass HR as much as possible. They never produced candidates that I would want. I’m sure it’s a lot more controlled today than it was 15 or 20 years ago.

It amazes me that nobody else noticed that when the "quotas" in movies started, movies started to suck miserably. And the more they push it, the more unentertaining and crappy movies get. Then the people making these films get all shocked and wonder why they get negative reviews.

It's interesting...........movie candidates meeting these standards for any Academy award will have such low viewership that they will end up losing money while movies that are actually entertaining will never get nominated and crush the competition at the box office. You would have noticed that people living in different regions speak the same language in different ways - sometimes they use different words for the same thing; sometimes the same word is pronounced differently. With the coming of novels,such variations entered the world of print for the first time? The way characters spoke in a novel began to indicate their region, class or caste. If I was a producer and was forced to have the diversity hire, I'd make sure the character was the most unsympathetic character on the cast with the vilest beliefs.
So in other words the only movies in 2024 that are allowed to be filmed MUST star a MALE who wears a dress and claim to be a female and so that means there are going to be no more MOVIES that individuals are going to even want to pay to see. So let's just schedule AI to make all the movies. For that matter, all movie producers need to just only have computer animated with all the characters Purple, orange and green, Pink polka dots for their skin color, and eye color neon green and yellow. As we all know there does not need to be any hair so all the characters are bald. No reason for there to be any children as it is determined that the government feels there is no need for children to reproduce. So no need for children to be in the movie anyway. So the idea is for the characters in the movie to just stand there. So nothing, complain, and stand there some more, do nothing complain. Oh wait isn't that what society is doing already. Oh, we are already living in a movie just like that already. So I guess there is no need to make a movie, we are living in one now.
