Fun fact: The term “Black” isn’t just because this cells at work’s version is darker, it meant something else. The term black is used to refer to an unacceptably exploitative employment system of a Japanese company. For example, harassing workers by making work harder than it should be, the higher ups are very abusive, working while underpaid, etc. It’s basically a sweatshop. Unlike the first happy version where everybody is happy to help each other, this one is full of stress and harassment.

I smoked for like a decade and a half, a 15-a-day habit. But having gradually weaned myself off nicotine, dropping the strength every 2 months, using a vape... well, it's been a year and a half since I switched down to 0% nicotine. It's been a year since I bothered using my vape at all. I don't have cravings. At all. It's probably a strategy that would work for others, who may not have considered it.

Dropping once every 2 months did mean I had withdrawal stress every 2 months, but my partner and I dealt with it. I also wasn't doing it purely for the sake of quitting. I'd been diagnosed with ms a few months earlier and read research papers that said nicotine and disease progression were strongly correlated. I had motivation, which probably went a long way towards it working.

About Erithropoiesis, we see some of it in the original show too. There's one episode (I don't remember which one) in which they show the process. Pre-graduated cells have a little pom-pom on top of their hat, which then gets plucked out as a part of the graduation ceremony, referencing the removal of the nucleus. I thought that was one of the cleverest visual metaphors in the whole show.

**by the way, this is not how you normally pronounce two-digit numbers in japanese. normally it would be along the lines of "yon juu roku (lit. four-ten-six)" and "kyuu juu roku (lit. nine-ten-six)"*

My Papa smoked for 50 years. Besides that, he led a very healthy lifestyle but did manage to quit eventually. My dad and aunt tried to get him to quit by putting explosives in his cigarettes when they were kids. I remember when I was little and those years of smoking caught up with him. Watching my Papa's body break down on him no matter what he did broke my heart. He died when he didn't put his oxygen mask back on one day before going to sleep. My Granny found him when she came back from the store. I'm crying too hard to remember where I was going with this.

I was really curious how different this would be to the original series. I wasn't disappointed :D I especially like the choice for the narrator. In the original series it was a woman with a very pleasent voice talking in a happy tone, like she is talking to a child. But in this it is this evil sounding male VA who is also the VA of Overhaul in My hero academia. Overhaul is a villain who is based on a plague doctor and he has to do with illness and stuff like that a bit.
It was also awesome that they showed the same bacterium in this first episode as in the first episode of the original series and how it behaves and looks is very different. This is awesome :)
Also it's a good call to watch S2 E1 of the original series after this because it's a very light-hearted episode imo :)

Question. I'm a chronic smoker regrettably (have been smoking for 10+ years); however, I've switched over to vaping after hitting the 10 years mark, which supposedly only contains nicotine-salt compound as well as additives such as propylene glycol, glycerine and benzoic acid. While I've got absolutely no idea what those additives are entirely, I'm fully convinced that switching over from actual cigarettes to vape ultimately was a good idea as I know for the fact that I have effectively stopped taking in majority of the harmful substances that I used to get when I was smoking actual cigarettes like formaldehyde. However, I also believe that nicotine is just completely harmful for the human body with no exception, whether nicotine-salt or not, though I haven't found any definitive evidence. With that being said, I do really want to know (if you know, that is) whether vapes also give me tar as well or not, and also could this whole mess caused by smoking be controllable/containable as long as I was keeping up with physical exercise regularly?

The Cells in cells at work are a lot younger. I study biotech and I don’t remember reading anything about cells becoming older and tired if they spend more time not being replaced.
