Just wanted to say thank you Ben for all your insightful views on skateboards and the products associated with them, it has helped me 10 fold to find my ideal setup and gear to ride with it. (Also for some reason every time I watch you skate all I want to do is go and and skate aswell)
leafblowers... I was a gardener for some time on a big business compound with office buildings. EVERY morning in fall, I would fire up my leafblower. the machine was heavy and was bad for my whimpy back but seeing angry suits wave and yell at me from the buisiness buildings next to me, did put a smile on my face.
Hey...Im wearing some Fallen shoes right now. They have a special meaning to me, as my father bought them and would often offer them to me. He passed the way about a year ago and I just recently discovered these shoes. Im stoked on wearing my fallen (get it???) dads skate shoes. Miss my old man terribly though.
@@kryptichands968 Hey thanks so much. Im doing that. Fact I just came from a nice lonely sesh with those sick Fallen shoes. Not too heavy on the flip tricks so no to ruin them that quick .
Just started skating again at 31, skated my entire childhood from 9-18. I dabbled here and there in between 18 and now but never committed fully. I've been at it for about 3 weeks skating everyday. My muscle memory of my piss poor techniques is still there, granted my bag of tricks then was about 10x what I can do now. Glad to see you have a tutorial channel, because back in the day I didn't have any way to perfect or things besides watching my 411VM in frame by frame VHS slow mo. I was just kind of like; oh cool I can do it, it's sloppy but I can. Rambling, but I appreciate your channel and knowledge. Also gives me hope that I didn't wait too long to start skating again seriously.
I have flat feet so modern 'slim-fit' shoes don't work for me. Plus they're always bruised from skating a quarter century, so the more padding the merrier. I usually go with Etnies Maranas but these look alright. Also, if you don't have any glue handy you can use a lighter to (carefully) melt and harden the plastic in the laces where they go into holes :)
@KDawg9000 what I think of when I imagine a classic skate shoe, and I've had those, skate great out the box. Only I also like the Marana's protective layer around the flip area too, seems to make em last just a little longer if you're doing flip tricks in your 40s lol
@SIOUXICIDE * Doesn't work quite as well as glue tho - I'll go through a pair of laces in a single session but if you only break em over weeks the lighter method might be the thing. Careful you don't burn em through and don't inhale the fumes.
i have also marana and fallen troopers (exactly the same sole as patriots). fallens has a WAY more boardfeel but are not protective at all. maranas are on the other side of that. they are a bit stiff, but for me works better in terms of protection. I usually wear fallens only for walking-they are very comfortable.
I have a super wide and flat foot and cant stand alot of these new narrow shoes, fallens for me used to be sooo good back in the day, also had some etnies Jameson cup soles a couple years ago that were real nice
I freaking LOVE Fallen shoes, my go to skate shoe and I was soooo sad when they went out of business, Emerica and Es were my other go to. Did they reissue the Troopers, if so you should try a pair of those too Ben! Edit: After watching and reading through the comments I also noticed the quality of the filming and editing has greatly improved in the last year. Definitely getting the hang of this TH-cam thing Ben. Keep killing it my man! Much love from Nanaimo.
@@vperkv6554 I've always wore a 9 and Fallen fit just slightly bigger than say Adidas which 9's fit me to perfection. Not sure if they are manufactured in the same place though. Bigger is better than too small though. Nowmsayin
As a closeted emo skater in the 00's, I absolutely loved Fallens. Loved the edgy logo, loved the durability, loved the soles, loved the designs. Used to have a stencil of that stupid logo that I used to tag my ledge spots with. Good times. Was bummed when they went under and I don't consider them the same company anymore. Nowadays I ride whatever I can find on clearance. I blow through shoes anyway, so I don't see a reason to invest in anything impressive anymore.
I've had one pair of Fallen shoes. I liked their look and was suprised by the durability for the particular model I had. Favorites of mine lately have been the DC Switch + and the DC Evan Smith's.
I've been through several pairs of both of those DCs. They are comfortable and durable. I prefer the standard Evan Smith over the Evan Smith Zero, but the Switch+ are my fave.
Evan Smiths are great but I'm not feeling the canvas siding. It's getting fucked up from my heelfips. I also got a pair of DC Hyde's which are essentially the more modern version of the Smith and I'm enjoying them so far.
I love your attention to detail in skateboarding aspects. I'm now looking at every aspect and measuring stuff. I tend to call it madness, but it's satisfying.
I’m going to be buying a new pair of skate shoes but I really cannot decide wether to get a pair of Fallen (patiots) or... NIKE SB (Charge Suede) Which do you think I should get / what have your experiences been like with either brand... 🙂
Big Ben hauling ass at the bank to ledge is what I like to see! I always loved skating Fallen back in middle school. Just a classic skate shoe similar to Emerica Reynold's but with less of a bulky tongue.
Whoa Nelly as soon as the skate footage started I noticed the quality of your film! It looks alive and the new tricks! Currently working on my quality but when I feel good I'm going after some new new. Ben is the man
Have you ever put Indy bushings on thunders?... feel like you might know if a gogo or nono. Loved watching your bro do forward flips back in the day. That trick ain’t easy or one to do clean
These have a lot better protection than the blazers. I would say they are fairly equal in performance and durability but with a totally different feel.
I wore the J Wray dukes for their entire production run. From first pair to last that's pretty much all I wore. Such a great shoe and I think both somehow ahead of and behind the times on its design.
hey Ben.I just bought pair of iron trucks 5.25 the low ones. They are really good for grinds and flatground tricks.I also had the Iron high ones and they turn little bit better than lows and I also recommend using bones soft or medium bushings. They are pretty cheap trucks and I want opinion on them.Love your videos man keep doing great job!!much love.😊😊
