    Firefly is still one of my favorite shows. It’s tied with Star Trek: The Next Generation for all-time favorite.
    I watched it in 2005 after I returned home from my second tour in Iraq, and unfortunately the show had already been canceled by the time I saw it, but it was still an amazing first viewing for an amazing show.

    • @peoplez129
      @peoplez129 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Nah, that's too tidy. Simon and Kaylee need to have not worked out but still have feelings. Zoe and Wash can't have kids because it would distract from the show too much and add an unnecessary new character that muddles things. It should be Simon having left the ship and becoming a bit less fancy from having to work a hard job in seclusion for years to hide his sister. Inara is off the ship living somewhere in a major planet, but still keeps in touch. River is still River. Jayne left the ship to go work a surprisingly lucrative position, maybe even become the mayor of an outback town. So it's just Zoe, Wash, the Captain and Kaylee running the ship. But something happens that forces them to all get back together, maybe involving the government getting near finding River again.

We ALL are, and although some actions don't deserve immediate forgiveness (let's not generalize too much), if a human can truly embrace change and be a better person than he/she/they were previously, we should offer forgiveness and support. Firefly was butchered by the studio (the pilot episode did not make much sense until you've seen the whole show), so I was not surprised when it was canceled. I was also pissed off and sad because it had a sort of swashbuckling vibe of the original Battlestar Galactica, which completely blew my mind when I was 7 to be able to see on TV a space opera that resembled Star Wars. That was the time before VCR to put things in perspective for the kids who grew up with streaming.
    Anyway Michael, I love and respect how you can pose a hard question but leave an opening for the guest to answer in any way he feels comfortable. That's a classy move.

      @@sfreemanoh The Firefly television series aired in Fox's "graveyard slot" in a time when DVRs were not yet widely available, streaming services and video-on-demand programming options were simply non-existent. The series run was directly limited to those who either knew the show was airing so they watched it at the time of broadcast, recorded it via VHS cassette to view later, or they missed the episode(s) altogether; ergo, falling through the cracks. Streaming only serves to bolster penetration of an untapped audience thus potentially growing the fan base even further since the series' broadcast run. My comment has nothing to do with Universal Pictures' attempted cash grab film, Serenity, which was an ironic title choice for the film given that it was the television series' pilot title three years prior.

      It's interesting "he probably has some issues" doesn't mean he's thin skinned. But aside from that, your analyst is missing the point. Joss Whedon seems to be fine with actors he wants to work with but apparently bullies those he sees as replaceable or just with less clout than he has. Y'know the way bullies always work. Anthony Head, Nathan Fillion, he liked them and wanted their characters. Same with too many actors to name. But Whedon didn't like Spike and disliked that he was being forced by the studio to keep the character around and so, according to James Marsters, physically assaulted Marsters and threatened him. Which James is willing to put up with but isn't how a normal workplace runs. But I digress, the point is when he doesn't want a character or an actor to stick around then he's not going to treat them the way he's treating his favorites.
      You say two sides, there's one side. He treats different people differently depending on the situation. That's not some cunning gotcha, it just means Whedon is able to control himself as needed but chooses not to when he thinks he can get away with it.

Now the rage kicks in and they retell the story to all their friends to punish whoever made them feel so inadequate. @@cupguin it wasn’t physical assault with Marsters. Marsters says he backed him into a walk and yelled at him very passionately. He never hit him. And Marsters said he’d work with him again in a second

      @@cupguin He’s definitely an asshole and needs to stop that behavior but most of it comes from confrontations or problems on the set with actors not doing what their boss wants them to do. And some seem like perceived slights. For instance I don’t believe Carpenter was fired for being pregnant. That’s her perception of why she was fired. James Marsters said the show was being cancelled. The WB told Joss they would renew the show if he added James Marsters to the cast. Marsters knew this so he demanded big money. This left none for Carpenter so they let her go. Marsters said he felt guilty about it! I think it’s just easier for her to believe it was personal rather than professional decision of being replaced.

      @@mrfloosak you saw where I said "Which James is willing to put up with" right? I also heard what he said and that would qualify as an assault and no one would argue it's acceptability in a normal job.
      My point also remains the same.the difference between how he treats actors he wants to keep vs those he does not like or does not think are in a position to stand up to him. Joss Whedon isn't an idiot, he's not deranged, from reports he's a bully who picks his targets carefully. All that Nathan Fillion says here just reaffirms that Joss Whedon can treat people better but chooses not to. That's not a good thing.

    Great shirt, reppin the Whalers 😊 I will forever love everything Whedon has made, no ones perfect, accept people for flaws, dont ignore or forget them, but let people try to change or improve.

    That's the problem with cancel culture today. We only know one side of the story and not the whole thing. There's so many point of views of Joss Whedon that passing him off would be a mistake.

    Nathan Fillion is one of my favourite actors (currently starring in arguably the best show on Network TV), Joss Whedon is one of my favourite filmmakers (his resume speaks for itself) and Firefly is in my Top 10 favourite series of all-time (despite it truncated run). Five to seven seasons and it could easily have topped that list.
