Great vid and channel, new to me from Belgium, and thx for the no nonsense opening: a trail bike is a trail bike! I’d love to have your views of the Orange Stage Evo, which I own and seems to be of the same category as the element

I would love to see/ride/review an Orange but they are extremely rare in Canada. Thanks for watching!

Bought the 2023 model. (Green). It's an amazing climber. It's a very good downhiller. Perfect for cross country riding.

Ride the c70 version of this bike all season and it’s been amazing. Climbs and descends great.

I've spent most of the season on a C70 as well and totally agree. Not too many places you feel like you don't have enough suspension because of the great geometry.

yep that is the perfect trail bike, i like how they went with a smaller suspension but kept the slack.

    Great video! Thanks
Have you tried the Transition Spur, if yes, how does that compare to the element?
    Cheers

Some times the side views make the fork loom bent with the arch in the top tube before the head tube. Ike looks like it would be really fast

I have been looking for a revue for the Rocky Mountain Element 10. The least expensive in the Element line-up. I am thinking of this for my wife and would be interested in seeing what it is like.

How did you find the fit of the L? Are Rocky's pretty consistent for sizing across the 2022 range?

    • @grahampye2314
      @grahampye2314 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hi Marc, Rocky seems to be finally have their sizing in line with other companies. I'm really liking the Element in a size Large and have stuck with the stock 50mm stem length. On my previous generation Element I was on an XL and it was barely big enough. I would ride a Large in each of the suspension models that Rocky makes now so they're fairly consistent.

@@grahampye2314 thanks Graham! Are you guys getting any more elements this year in black/L?

Closest thing is a large black carbon 50 we might see in August.

I dislike when OEM’s put a higher-level derailleur coupled with lower spec cassette, chain, shifter. They know that people see the big XT logo on the derailleur, and think that’s what everything is. Usually, a person is better served with higher spec cassette/chain, than derailleur.

George, I agree however after seeing this being somewhat standard practice, and it working to sway consumers towards buying certain bike models for over 20 years, the bike companies keep getting feedback that it works to sell bikes.

One thing I'd love review wise is if you could speak to the specs offered and if for instance the lowest spec might somehow defeat the positive attributes of the bike...so for example maybe the AL 30 spec's rockshox fork is so budget that it really defeats the purpose of the geometry, and therefore this bike's ethos only really makes sense at the 50 spec and above...if that even makes sense.

Good point. The one thing I'd point out is that people's price range and performance expectations usually go hand-in-hand. We sometimes have discussions of this nature in the shop then we have to remind ourselves that A10 and A30 customers are often on their first full suspension and their demands for performance are much less than the people who have graduated to the point that they're seeking performance and adjustability from their suspension

PinkBike recently compared a few bikes that on paper looked so similar. HA, STA, reach so within 1° of each other. So according to your premise, they should be very similar. But in fact they ride completely differently. The take home message was geometry only gets you to about 50% of what a bike will be like to ride. The other 50% is only determined by riding the bike. So don’t read too much into these “on paper” reviews.

I take anything Pinkbike says with a grain of salt. Their business is to get people to click and read and they do a great job of it (I check Pinkbike religiously). Strong opinions are much more interesting to read than objective statements and they do a great job of implanting biases in people's heads which helps to propagate opinions to fall inline with those of reviewers. I have spent a pile of time on the Rocky Mountain Element and the Marin Riftzone - 2 bikes that got very different reception by the Pinkbike Reviewers. From my perspective they're two bikes that are much more similar than what Pinkbike would say, so that is where my comments come from, not just judging by geometry charts.

Nice. Too expensive for a aluminum frame with Deore. A CTM, Cube, GT, Ghost, Vitus, Sonder, are better priced with better spec'd rigs. And my CTM Scout, with 12-speed, cost $1,800 with SRAM SX 12 speed (and a slight unexpected import tax). Too many makers cater to the 1% club of weekend weenies, that are addicted to riding expensive. How 'bout a Element, with a Suntour shock, fork, and worthy 10 speed drive, and price-it about $1,400. Just to see how many are sold on the first batch.

Hi, this bike is equipped with SLX brakes, shifter, rear hub and cassette and an XT rear derailleur. There are no Deore components. Some people are after the cheapest bike possible with their preferred derailleur. Others seek out a bike with geometry, features, adjustability, ride quality and that special something that gets them excited... there's plenty of room in the bike world for some brands to concentrate on the derailleur for dollars value game while others focus on performance and brand excitement.
