For people who have problem with detaching ball. Before creating sphere you should SELECT THE BOTTOM CHAIN IN EDIT MODE AND THEN CREATE THE SPHERE, so in that case it will be the same object and won't fall apart when you animate.
I love your style of teaching because instead of going, "do this or else this will happen" you let the mistakes happen then and show people how to fix them.

Thank you for the tutorial, Andrew. It's a lot of fun, and very cathartic watching all those cubes go everywhere.
@Jake Jannone I'm not sure what you're doing wrong. My suggestion would be to make sure you have the appropriate rigid body physics on your links, planes, and cubes.
I have been to lazy to learn Blender because I know it took a while to learn how to use Photoshop and Unity, But when I saw your channel I really got inspired of how easy you make it look and you explain so clear! Thank you!!
Wow man! You've been doing this since 2014?!! I am just starting to get into this it feels pretty intimidating learning from someone who's been at this for almost a decade!
Short tutorials are good for little experiments, but the real learning happens in the longer ones. Boring or not, the extra content is what makes you learn the intricacy of the program. I will be the one to argue for not getting rid of in depth videos. I am sure that after a few dozen short ones, those users will long for videos that do more than just scratch the surface.
So the ideal is to make long tutorials for begginers and short quick tutorials for intermediates and advanced users... I believe that begginers are well served with content... just go to Blender Cookie or even you tube with "Blender Begginers" and you'll have a lot to chose from... Now for advanced users with solutions for complex tasks we don't have many options...
It's not that i dont enjoy long tuts. They're awesome, but it's nice to have a short one every little while just to keep us motivated while we wait for part2. I mean Andrew's tutorials that are in parts can had two weeks or so in between. When you're new, you either use those two weeks to polish up your skills or look for someone else's tut.

Hello, I love this channel and the content it posts. Now, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who is a complete beginner to 3D editing. It is quite a bit difficult for me to keep up with the speed in which you do the tutorial. Sometimes you’ll hit an important button that you don’t mention and it’ll mess up my whole project making me watch your 30 minute video very slowly and meticulously not to miss any button you press or key you hit. I don’t think it will hurt anyone to go a little slower in your tutorials. Thank you!

Actually, my question was whether or not we could do this in cycles....which I guess we still can't. I got to the 2nd part of the tutorial and he said to render in Blender Render. Thanks for being in Cycles mode for the whole 1st tutorial...
To use small or fast objects, increase "Steps per second" in the "Rigid Body World" tab to something higher than sixty (500-1000). It determines the "granularity" of the simulation, that is, the time increments between simulation steps. If it's too low, an object may pass through another object without the simulator noticing, because they never intersect. If you use small objects, time-steps need to be small, too. That means many steps per second. This will eliminate nasty fiddling with the timescale to get it somewhat right.
Thanks for the great tutorial! I've worked with a lot of rigid body simulations in blender, but you helped me figure out some of my age-long problems with it! Awesome Job!

+mt2oo8 just figured it out, its in the physics tab on the left in cycles
+mt2oo8 update your blender
+Neeraj vegad No, downgrade because this is an old tutorial.
it's under physics vertical tab
wonder....i like the way you teach, I'm just beginner in blender and doing this in 2.91, awesome, it works fantastic. love you!
For some reason I can't select a single link. I can only select two at a time. How do I fix that?
+Mark Snider same here, I was wondering why, thanks for the tip
you may have been duplicating the chain in edit mode. do it in object mode.

Smow Alarmmacher you idiot 😂 👍👍👍

Smow Alarmmacher lol funny that you could comment
For some reason the ball wont stay on the chain. D:
+Callapa2 Gaming Wait i joined the UV sphere with the chain link and set the ball to box and it worked.
+Callapa2 Gaming I mean i set it to mesh.
when you have selected the last chain link, go into edit mode and press shift + a, and add a ball
You are the best in BLENDER. I'm really interested in your tutorial method.
Almost there still learning. After Watching your tutorial, it inspired me to continue learning in getting the use of blender, sometimes I get confuse because of what I have download is the new version of blender so the functions are place quite different from your video.. all in all I really like the video it's easy to learn and understand. And the best part is I can see the key functions you input so learning is fun and very informative.. Hope one day I can be a great CG Designer. Hope you continue posting new videos of tutorials. Thank You Andrew Price.
haha awesome, but now we'll have so much more rigid body simulations on youtube! lol as if we didn't have enough already! lol
I can't succed in rotating the chain completely, it rotates separately every piece
Make sure you have "3d Cursor" selected in pivot point found down by the timeline
@@fluffed_coyote1487 Hello! Can you please tell me how to rotate the chain? So the last chain ring woudn't rotate? Whe I try to rotate it my whole chain rotates. I use Blender 2.82
@@happytraveller559 I'm not sure. I haven't really gotten used to 2.8 yet. Sorry
Update for blender 2.8 !!
It really is the best video in the world, thanks to Blender Guru, I have made my first rigid body object animation... and it was very good:)
Can't find Rigid Body Tools in 2.80 alpha 2 :(
